Final Villain's Broken System: Geniuses Make Me Stronger!
Chapter 36: A tense momentOnce Alaric settled on what he was going to do, the panic inside his mind slowly began disappearing.
It wasn’t because he suddenly became confident in the plan. In fact, there were several ways it could go horribly wrong.
The reason was much simpler.
He had no other choice.
Since there was no alternative left for him to compare against, continuously worrying about whether his decision was correct became meaningless.
Whatever he had thought of had to work because if it didn’t, his entire plan regarding the corpses might collapse anyway.
Fuck it. I’ve already come this far.
Alaric entered his room and immediately contacted the information department.
"When exactly are the Divine Inspectors leaving?"
"Young Lord, preparations are already underway. According to our spies, they should depart within a few hours at most."
Alaric roughly calculated the distance from the capital.
Half a day.
Even if the Divine Inspector assigned to House Orlen left as soon as possible, Alaric should still possess approximately half a day before they entered his territory.
That definitely wasn’t enough for the connections inside Moliken Forest to disappear.
However, since Alaric had already decided how he would deal with that problem, he stopped thinking about it for now.
Instead, he immediately took out one of the Lithy Flowers and the Mana Channel Construction Orb.
If he had half a day, wasting those hours walking around nervously would be incredibly stupid.
Alaric consumed the Lithy Flower before beginning his breathing technique while using the Mana Channel Construction Orb to assist in constructing his remaining mana channels.
Very quickly, he noticed just how enormous the difference caused by the twenty five Talent Points really was.
Before upgrading his Body Path talent, constructing mana channels had always been painfully slow even when he possessed good resources. Now, the entire process felt considerably smoother.
Combined with the Lithy Flower multiplying his cultivation speed and the Mana Channel Construction Orb assisting him, his progress was incomparable to before.
So this is what having actual damn talent feels like.
No wonder geniuses progressed so quickly compared to ordinary people.
Alaric was pretty sure that Evan, being a genius of body path, had a talent entirely in a different upper class even compared to his own talent which was boosted by twenty five points.
After getting that thought out of his mind, he continued cultivating for several hours without interruption. He naturally couldn’t reach Knight immediately, but his breakthrough was getting noticeably closer.
When he finally stopped, only a few hours remained before nightfall.
After washing himself and changing clothes, Alaric went to eat. He had originally considered skipping the meal, but several hours of cultivation had left him incredibly hungry.
While he ate, Ryu brought over the results of the investigation into the three steward candidates.
Alaric started reading through them one by one.
The first candidate had plenty of experience, but according to people who worked beneath him, he became extremely indecisive whenever large amounts of money were involved.
Alaric immediately became less interested.
The second candidate was extremely capable when dealing with trade and taxation. Unfortunately, he also had a habit of interfering with departments outside his responsibility whenever he believed he could do something better.
Alaric stopped reading.
Absolutely fucking not.
He had just killed Edwin. He wasn’t going to install Edwin Number Two immediately afterward.
The third candidate was comparatively boring.
He had managed several agricultural districts for more than ten years. There were no impressive achievements, no miraculous increases in revenue and nothing that made Alaric think this man was secretly an administrative genius.
However, there were also no corruption complaints, major disputes, suspicious connections or subordinates complaining about him constantly interfering with their work.
The man simply seemed to know what needed to be done without possessing some defective personality trait that would eventually become Alaric’s problem.
"I’ll choose him."
Ryu nodded. "I’ll inform him, Young Lord."
By the time Alaric finished eating, night had already arrived.
Soon afterward, he left Orlena City and began travelling toward Moliken Forest.
While Alaric was on the road, the two individuals connected to his System had finally reached their destination.
Far away in the capital, Zephyr invisibly landed on the roof of a large mansion and looked through one of its upper windows.
According to the information Alaric had given him, the political official lived here.
Zephyr remembered his instructions.
No killing. No unnecessary destruction.
Just find something capable of removing the man from his position.
It is troublesome but still doable.
According to Alaric’s instructions, after finding the evidence, I have to show that political official that his secret is out and he just needs to vacate his position to ensure that his secret won’t be leaked to the public.
The baby dragon was confident about this task.
Alaric had said that he was a genius even among dragons, a race that stood at the peak of the Magic Path.
With that thought, the baby dragon happily slipped inside the mansion.
At approximately the same time, Evan stood outside the residence of House Halden.
"I am Evan Lionheart, personal retainer of Young Lord Alaric Orlen. I request an audience with the head of House Halden."
One of the guards quickly went inside to deliver the message while Evan remained outside.
He had no idea whether House Halden would accept Alaric’s proposal.
However, if that mana crystal deposit really existed, refusing to even hear him out would be like missing an opportunity that knocked on your door.
Several hours later, Alaric finally reached Moliken Forest.
The House Orlen guards stationed around the battlefield immediately approached him.
Before Alaric could speak, a familiar notification suddenly appeared before his eyes.

[Quest: Convince a neutral noble house to support House Orlen - Evan Lionheart]

[The host has leveled up. Talent Point +2]
[Level: 8]
I knew I could trust those guys.
Alaric heaved a sigh.
As to why he previously only received 25 coins for a quest completion of grade A, then 30 and 35 coins for the same grade A quest completion, it was because the difficulty of the mission differed.
Alaric barely had time to feel happy before one of the guards suddenly pointed toward the road behind him.
"Young Lord, someone is approaching."
Alaric turned around.
Under the light of the seven moons, a lone figure could be seen approaching Moliken Forest on horseback.
Even from a distance, Alaric recognized the insignia belonging to the Royal Family.
The Divine Inspector had arrived.
