Alaric didn’t rest or strengthen himself as he sat in his tent.

Instead, he activated the Eye of Surveillance attached to the Divine Inspector to test its effects.

The scene which appeared in his mind showed the man sitting inside a private room of the inn alongside several representatives from the ducal houses. A document bearing the royal seal rested on the table before them.

"The Crown has agreed that reinforcements should be deployed to the southwestern border." One representative leaned back with a relieved expression. "That should be enough. Young Lord Alaric asked for the kingdom to send reinforcements. The Crown has agreed."

The Divine Inspector glanced at him.

"Has a single soldier moved? Have the units been selected? Any commanders appointed?"

The representative frowned. "Not yet."

"You call that deployment?"

Another representative pointed out. "You sound like you are taking House Orlen’s side."

"Every one of you is sitting on the high horse of your political authority without trying to understand the problem.

"Do you think this will convince Alaric? He dares to look at the crown with suspicion. You think you can convince him with just a promise?

"I am simply telling you people what he will say tomorrow. You are free to try."

The Divine Inspector tapped the document while looking around the room. None dared to meet his eye.

Alaric, who was watching everything from inside his tent, smiled.

At least this guy isn’t stupid. Others might or might not know about the limitations of special eyes, but he definitely does.

But then again, he also doesn’t know the exact timing of battle unlike me, so he can’t make an educated guess.

While everyone argued amongst themselves, the Divine Inspector closed his eyes and thought.

Connections created during a short event can remain individually distinguishable for several days. After enough time passes, they would disappear, making my eyes useless.

Alaric is very likely stalling for time.

Not all ducal houses should be unaware of this limitation of special eyes. Are these representatives stupid that they can’t see that, or are they genuinely not sure about the information on special eyes?

He heaved a sigh.

Dense ambient mana, beasts constantly moving through the Moliken forest, weather, and the people House Orlen already sent into the area will accelerate the deterioration of those connections.

Unfortunately, mobilizing an army really does take time. Alaric has a perfect handle on politics.

While he was in thought, the representatives were already deciding where to throw a party after stopping House Orlen’s rise to duchy.

Alaric stopped watching after that.

Good.

Keep being like this for just two more days.

The following morning, the representatives of ducal houses returned to Moliken, with this time the Divine Inspector staying at the back.

One of them handed Alaric the royal document.

"The Crown has agreed to your demand. Reinforcements will be sent to the southwestern border. Let us enter the Moliken forest now."

Through the Eye of Surveillance, he already knew what the document was but still faked reading it before asking.

"Which army?"

The representative blinked, a bad feeling creeping in his stomach. "What?"

"Which units are being sent?"

"The specific units are still being selected."

"Who are their commanders?"

"That hasn’t been finalized."

"When do they leave?"

The man’s expression gradually darkened. This was almost the same as what the Divine Inspector had questioned them about last night.

The representative kept his patience and pushed through.

"Young Lord Orlen, the Crown has already formally agreed."

"I can read."

Alaric handed the document back.

"I asked for armies to be deployed. This paper says the Crown intends to deploy them after deciding which soldiers to send."

A representative from another ducal house finally spoke.

"Are you changing the conditions after receiving what you asked for?"

"No."

Alaric looked genuinely confused.

"If I tell your guards to arrest someone, has that person already been arrested if you merely tell me that you’ve allowed your guards to move?"

The man stared daggers at him, probably not used to being denied so blatantly in his position. For him, this felt like a humiliation and disrespect.

Alaric shrugged, not giving two shits about the frosty glare the man was shooting him.

"I want the units named, commanders assigned, destination confirmed and command transfer started. Once that happens, I’ll consider the army deployed.

"Aren’t I lenient with procedures? After all, I am not even asking that the armies must reach the border before I allow all of you inside the forest."

The Divine Inspector remained silent throughout the exchange.

He already knew this would happen.

Bullshit after bullshit.

Unfortunately, it was very difficult to point out exactly where the bullshit was.

Alaric had publicly framed Ulyt infiltration as a national security problem. Now he was asking the Crown to prove that it actually treated it as one.

Delaying deploying the army as a proof while simultaneously insisting the situation was serious enough to justify forcibly investigating Moliken would be politically awkward.

The Divine Inspector finally asked.

"I hope there won’t be more conditions after we deploy the army."

Alaric chuckled.

"House Orlen will also prepare a formal chain of custody before the investigation begins."

One of the representatives immediately narrowed his eyes.

"Another condition?"

"No. Preparation."

Alaric explained what he wanted.

Everyone entering the Moliken battlefield would have their identity recorded. Every object removed would be listed. House Orlen and the Crown would each appoint a witness who remained present throughout the investigation.

The Divine Inspector thought for a moment before nodding.

"Reasonable."

It could technically also be counted as a tactic for buying time, but it was very subtle and still fell within reasonable boundaries.

But the Divine Inspector knew that doing this meant Alaric wouldn’t be able to give more reasons to stall.

A ducal representative looked at him in disbelief, to which the Inspector explained.

"If anything disappears later, neither side will be able to blame the other without evidence."

Alaric smiled.

"Exactly."

Once they left, he returned to his tent.

There was nothing else he could personally do now.

So instead of sitting there worrying about the Crown, Alaric used a Lithy Flower and placed his hand on the Mana Channel Construction Orb.

It wasn’t that he had a lot of Lithy flowers but that several times his cultivation session was cut short; therefore, the Lithy Flower wasn’t entirely consumed. So naturally, he would use the same used flower for the next session.

The effect of his twenty five Talent Points had become far more noticeable recently.

Before, he could only vaguely sense that something had gone wrong while forming a mana channel.

Now he could actually identify the problem.

The difference wasn’t simply that he progressed faster. He understood his own mistakes much sooner, which meant he wasted far less time repeatedly constructing the same section of a mana channel.

Several hours passed like that before a guard entered.

"Young Lord."

Alaric opened his eyes.

"House Halden has mobilized troops."

He immediately stopped his breathing technique.

"Mobilized as in actually mobilized?"

"Yes, Young Lord. Their vanguard has already departed for the southwestern border."

Alaric stared at him for a moment before breaking into a smile.

Finally.

"How large?"

The guard reported the number.

Not enough, but that’s okay.

It wasn’t enough to replace House Orlen’s army at the border.

But that wasn’t what Alaric needed from them anyway.

House Halden was neutral.

A neutral noble house had now publicly accepted that the situation at the southwestern border concerned more than House Orlen.

Someone had broken the ice.

"Anything else?"

"Several smaller houses have begun discussing whether they should contribute forces as well."

Alaric nodded.

"Keep me informed."

By evening, another report arrived.

This time, the Crown had selected royal units and begun transferring command for deployment.

Two smaller noble houses had also announced their own contributions.

For the smaller nobles, following House Halden was much safer than being the first to openly support House Orlen.

Alaric had seen that coming.

By the time night covered Moliken Forest again, one full day had passed.

The newest information stated that the Crown and several major ducal houses had begun serious discussions regarding their mobilization of armies.

Alaric stood outside his tent, looking toward the distant town where the Divine Inspector was staying.

The serious discussions have begun, the army might really be deployed anytime soon. I need time until morning.

His demand was being fulfilled far faster than he would’ve preferred.

He mentally counted the time since the battle once again.

I previously didn’t account for the environment of the Moliken forest in the calculation, but now that I think about it, the connection should’ve disappeared by now.

But his excuse was also disappearing.

Alaric exhaled slowly.

I’ll have to open Moliken as soon as the Crown and the ducal houses finish discussing mobilizations.

Who knows if the connections will have really disappeared by then? I did everything I could.
