"Y-young Lord, you called for me?"

Mira stuttered, as she was still unfamiliar with this form of address.

Alaric smiled, and told her about the situation. There was a period of silence before the young girl spoke again.

"So you’re saying that a powerful man has taken my little brother as his disciple and doesn’t intend to let him leave?"

"Yes."

"Will my little brother be safe?"

"I don’t know."

"If I wish to take him back, can you make it possible?"

Alaric sighed at that question. "Frankly speaking, the person who rescued you, Zephyr, is a strong Mage and is also a Knight. Not anyone can make him feel so helpless.

"That unknown old man is at least a Champion Mage seeing how he defeated Zephyr with just one spell model.

"If you don’t want your little brother to stay with that old man, I can only appeal to reasoning and if that doesn’t work, I can only contact my mother. But I am not sure if my mother will want to help out."

Mira gritted her teeth. "Can I talk to my brother?"

Alaric was about to giver his communication device, when she refused. "No, I want to meet him personally."

"Are you sure? Even I don’t want to go anywhere near that man. He might be dangerous."

Mira nodded. "My brother is still safe in his hands. If he intended to harm him, he wouldn’t have rescued Valen from the slave traders."

"You..." Alaric was about to say something but sighed. Having read Tales of Golden Era, he knew that there were many kinds of people out there.

But he knew he shouldn’t stop Mira right now.

Well, I tried. If something happens to you, I can’t be blamed.

Alaric ordered his attendant to have Mira transported to the village where her brother was found.

He definitely wasn’t going anywhere near that unknown powerhouse.

Update would only come a few hours later, so he took out his Lithy Flower and Mana Channel Construction Orb before starting his cultivation.

Several hours later, Mira jumped out of the carriage when it stopped near the village.

"VELAN!"

The boy had been standing beside Celdric when he heard the voice.

He turned around. In a heartbeat, he began running towards the incoming Mira.

They crashed into each other hard enough that both nearly fell over.

Velan immediately started crying.

"I thought you were dead! They took you away and I kept asking where you were, but nobody told me anything. Master said he would help me look once we reached a city, but I didn’t even know where they took you!"

Mira was crying just as badly as she held onto him.

"I thought they sold you somewhere! I kept thinking I should’ve held onto you harder when they separated us. I tried, but that man hit me and they dragged you away."

Velan buried his face against her shoulder.

"Where’s Mother?"

"I don’t know."

The happiness on his face visibly weakened. Mira hurriedly continued.

"But Young Lord Alaric is helping me find her. He found you, didn’t he? We’ll find Mother too."

Once the two children finally calmed down somewhat, the actual problem emerged.

Velan wanted to leave with Mira.

Celdric wanted Velan to continue travelling with him.

"I don’t understand why there is even an argument," Zephyr spoke after listening to the situation. He was still invisible. "The kid wants to stay with his sister."

Celdric frowned. "I rescued him from slavery, cared for him afterward and discovered his talent. I can give him a future very few people in this kingdom could provide."

"I’m pretty sure Alaric is thankful you rescued him. So is Mira, and I’m sure Velan is too.

"But I was already searching for him, I would’ve found him even if you hadn’t saved him. Not to mention, rescuing someone doesn’t mean you own the rest of their life."

Zephyr was very sensitive to this issue.

"I never said I owned him."

"Then ask him what he wants."

Celdric went silent.

Velan answered immediately. "I want to stay with Mira." He had, after all, spent a lot less time with Celdric than with his own sister. Not to mention, the latter was his family.

Zephyr replied in an obvious tone. "There. Problem solved."

Celdric looked genuinely irritated now.

"You’re ignoring the opportunity he would lose. His talent is extremely rare. I am a Paragon Knight who specializes heavily in movement and speed, and the boy possesses the same kind of talent I have. If properly trained, he could walk very far on the Body Path."

Zephyr and Mira, who understood the significance behind that word, took a deep breath.

Zephyr had seen the spell model that man used, and Mira knew Alaric’s judgment of this man, therefore both of them also knew he was at least a Champion Mage.

Mira finally looked toward the empty air.

"Uhm...Zephyr? If Velan stays with me... can he become as powerful if he were to stay with that old man?"

Zephyr stiffened. He himself hadn’t yet reached that stage.

"You’ll have to ask Alaric. But his answer will likely be that he can only give you opportunities, not guarantee."

Mira lowered her head, then glanced at the old man.

"You really think he can become powerful?"

"Yes."

"As powerful as you?"

"I cannot promise that. Anyone who promises another person that they will certainly reach Paragon is lying.

"But his talent is excellent, and I understand the area he is talented in because it resembles my own. Under me, his chances are far better than they would be almost anywhere else."

Velan immediately grabbed her hand.

"I don’t care. I want to stay with you."

"I want you to stay too."

"Then I’ll stay."

Mira didn’t answer.

Velan tugged her hand again. He was too young to understand the difference between the opportunity to grow strong and the opportunity to be trained personally by a Paragon.

"You said we’d find Mother."

"We will."

"Then I’m coming with you."

Mira’s face twisted as she tried not to cry again.

"That’s why I don’t know what to do, idiot."

Velan looked confused.

Mira wiped her eyes with her sleeve.

"I spent all this time wanting to find you. Every day. I kept thinking that once I found you, I wouldn’t let anyone take you away again."

Her fingers tightened around his hand.

"I hate this."

Mira stayed silent for a while before pulling him into another hug.

Velan started crying again, which broke the self control Mira had, prompting her to cry as well.

"You go with him. Learn everything. Become really, really strong. Strong enough that next time someone tries taking you somewhere, you beat them up instead."

Velan sniffled against her shoulder.

The two remained hugging for a long time.

Eventually, Velan stepped away and repeatedly made Mira promise that she would keep sending him messages whenever possible, while Mira made Celdric promise that he wouldn’t take her brother somewhere without telling her where they were going.

Before leaving, Celdric approached the invisible Zephyr.

"I still believe I would have found some way to contact the boy’s family eventually, but you saved me considerable trouble.

"More importantly, the sister willingly gave her permission after knowing what I could offer him. I prefer it this way."

Seeing that Zephyr didn’t reply. He turned toward Velan before adding.

"I gained the disciple I wanted, so I won’t pretend this encounter brought me no benefit. If you or Alaric ever encounter trouble which genuinely exceeds what you can handle, you may contact me once."

Zephyr was immediately unhappy.

"Only once?"

"You don’t know how troublesome the Orlen family is. I’m putting a limit beforehand."

Celdric began walking away before suddenly stopping.

"One more thing. When Marchioness Orlen returns, inform Alaric to tell her that Celdric Veyr sends his regards."

Zephyr’s expression changed.

"You know Alaric’s mother personally?"

Celdric glanced backward.

"Not personally."

"Then why would he give her your regards?"

The Paragon smiled slightly.

"She’ll understand."

He didn’t explain any further.

Zephyr watched the man leave with Velan while Mira stood on the ground, wiping her eyes again.

The baby dragon glanced at her, then remembered his own situation. He didn’t have anyone he could call family.

He suddenly didn’t find her so annoying anymore.

Her words and her current situation continuously rang in his mind.

Freedom...hiding...power...

She had to give up on her family because she wasn’t powerful enough to train her little brother herself.

Valen wasn’t powerful enough to have the freedom to decide where he wanted to go.

Lastly, the most important thing was how easily Celdric had caught him despite being invisible.

Invisibility is only useful against those weaker than me. Or is there a fault in my invisibility?

Why can’t I be invisible in front of stronger beings as well?

His thoughts drifted towards the little human who was standing in the middle of the ground, lost in thought.

Zephyr felt his view changing, the way he looked at Invisibility changed. Something seemed to be happening but he didn’t pay it any attention.

He looked at Mira, took a deep breath and cancelled his invisibility.

Seeing a creature the size of a cat appear in front of her, Mira was surprised.

"Zephyr?"

"Yes."

Her savior wasn’t a human!

But that was it, only a surprised expression.

When Zephyr saw that she didn’t hold any expression of greed for his blood or fear of his race, his eyes softened.

With a sigh, his physique expanded to his maximum size, the size of a carriage.

"Get on, let’s go back."

Mira was startled, but quickly followed through, getting on the baby dragon’s back before holding onto his scales.

As they soared through the skies, something seemed to shift in the environment.

The clouds darkened, lightning flashed, and winds began flowing.

The laws of the world curled up around the oblivious pair of children flying in the sky, before they receded.

Alaric, who had just finished his meal and was standing in the study, was looking out of the window.

Zephyr had messaged him about everything that happened.

His mother had barely appeared in Tales of Golden Era except through her position in House Orlen and the events surrounding the southwestern border.

Yet from what Zephyr just told him, there was more to her. Such that even a Paragon Knight he didn’t know about, knew about his mother.

Alaric narrowed his eyes.

Rathen Empire huh? I think I heard about that name in the Chapters concerning the Academy establishment but it didn’t appear again after that.

Well, that was all the more reason for him to not miss out on the Academy.

He then thought about Mira’s little brother.

Did I miss out on Valen? Could he have passed the System’s requirement?

He then shook his head.

Nevermind. Even if he could have passed the System’s requirement, I wouldn’t have been able to keep him.

He was waiting at the window because according to Zephyr’s timing of his message, they should be back anytime soon now.

Indeed, a few minutes later, he saw a black dot in the sky. But when it grew closer, he was startled, before he smiled.

Haha, it seems Mira grew on him huh? I thought he’d bring her back by holding her in his paw.
