Once Alaric confirmed that Evan would indeed stay by his side, he dismissed him and left the training hall.

"Transport the items of that makeshift camp to my study." Alaric ordered a guard from the hunting squad.

He then instructed his attendant to summon a trade merchant to his study.

He hoped there was at least one available. If all were out with their goods, he would be forced to search for other experienced individuals.

Fortunately, not all of them were out, as one entered the study.

He was about to take out a Divine Contract Scroll he had prepared when he halted in his tracks.

The trade merchant who had entered was the one who had already sworn loyalty to House Orlen, and had also signed a Divine Contract Scroll.

But that wasn’t the main point. The moment he saw the merchant’s face, a memory surfaced.

This was the very merchant who had saved the young lord’s life from the three squire rank assassins in Tales of Golden Era.

It was him who ordered the squires he contracted with his personal resources to defend the young lord.

When the situation got deadly and a poisoned arrow was about to pierce the young lord, it was the merchant sitting in front of him who intervened, taking the arrow in his place and dying.

All he asked for was the House to protect and raise his son.

That event would never take place now.

The assassins had already died beneath his knives.

Once the merchant sat down, Alaric slid forward the Divine Contract Scroll.

It stipulated that the contents discussed must not be shared with anyone else.

Even though the Divine Contract Scroll the merchant had signed with the House had a similar privacy clause, he found nothing odd with signing another one. The noble houses were simply that cautious.

Once he signed it, Alaric took out the items and asked him to estimate the location they might’ve come from.

"It might take some time, Young Lord." The merchant claimed after counting the amount of items.

"No worries, take your time." Alaric leaned back into his chair and began reading a book he had picked out earlier.

It was information about the kingdom. It obviously wouldn’t contain secrets but it was still more detailed than Tales of Golden Era.

As he brushed up on his knowledge regarding everything about the kingdom, he waited for the merchant to finish his task and for one more thing.

The third quest should be issued anytime soon.

Approximately an hour later, the merchant finished going through the items, but the quest hadn’t yet arrived.

He gazed at the report the merchant had written while listening to his conclusion.

"Individually, none of these items are remarkable, Young Lord. In fact, I believe that was intentional."

He picked out a few objects from the box.

"The rope is woven in House Ashcombe’s territory. The dried rations are commonly sold by merchants from House Bellford.

"This whetstone comes from the northern quarries of House Halden, while these boots were stitched by craftsmen in House Evermont."

He paused before sliding a map onto the table.

"Ordinarily, goods from these territories would never travel together. Their trade routes run in entirely different directions.

"Yet House Yuglev lies at the crossroads connecting every one of them."

His finger tapped the map where several roads converged.

"Yuglev hosts one of the largest inland trade markets in the region. Merchants from many territories regularly pass through its market district.

"Anyone wishing to assemble supplies that couldn’t easily be traced to a single territory would find House Yuglev’s markets particularly convenient."

He paused before continuing.

"Not all of them share such a trait, but the majority of them do. Some I believe can also be bought on the route from House Yuglev to House Orlen."

Alaric nodded, then waved towards the door.

"Thank you for your assistance. I hope you won’t share what happened here."

"Naturally not, Young Lord."

Once the door to his study closed, he closed his eyes.

House Yuglev has become even more suspicious.

As he was thinking of what to do, the system notification he had been waiting for arrived.

[Quest: Take permission from House Orlen to exterminate the bandits in Tikka town.]

[Reward: Mana Channel Construction Orb.]

Alaric’s eyes widened.

The quest and rewards had changed!

He may not remember the exact wording but he was absolutely certain that the third quest didn’t mention House Orlen in Tales of Golden Era.

In Tales of Golden Era, once Evan left House Orlen, he passed through Tikka Town, where he received the quest to exterminate the bandits.

But now the wording had changed!

That meant the System tailored its quests based on the current situation of the genius.

The reward strengthened this hypothesis of his even more.

It wasn’t merely the wording but the reward itself had changed! This was much greater news considering the pressure of Alice knowing about the system and the future.

In Tales of Golden Era, the reward had been ’Blood Orb’, but now it was ’Mana Channel Construction Orb’.

Did the reward change because the System determined that Evan no longer needed blood?

So it moved on to giving a reward which would help him in the next stage? To construct mana channels?

Alaric thought. It wasn’t enough to call it a rule. But it was enough to form a hypothesis.

He also noted down another hypothesis.

Blood Orb and Mana Channel Construction Orb both have the same value in the markets.

Which meant even if the quest changes, as long as the difficulty is the same, the rewards would also be at the same level.

Once he thought of that, he couldn’t help but question if defeating him was such a difficult quest because it came with a reward as great as minor mastery of throwing knives.

Or was it because it was the first quest so it came with a beginner bonus or something like that?

Alaric shook his head and left the study.

He had his attendant send word to Evan to head towards Tikka town and exterminate the bandits.

The latter found nothing strange as the squires employed by the House all undertook various different tasks for merit.

Now that he served under the young lord, of course he would fulfill his tasks.

He then found Alice and instructed her.

"Prepare the carriage, we are heading towards the undiscovered mana crystal deposit you shared the location of."
