First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2977 - I’ll Sever Your Dog Head Another Day

The terrifying majesty of a sovereign receded like the tides. Only the clanging hum of a sword still echoed through the devastated landscape.

The battle had changed drastically the moment Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s avatar supplanted Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo. Su Yi was no longer facing a Heavenly Monarch, but rather, the power of a Heavenly Sovereign!

Su Yi was thus instantly ready to fight with everything he had.

There was no denying it; Heavenly Sovereign Wen was terrifying.

He hadn’t said a word since the battle began. He just struck ruthlessly, using the absolute power of a Sovereign to seal off the surrounding area. He was unbelievably strong.

In the past, Su Yi would have been helpless to fight back.

But he’d fought the Heavenly Sovereign imprint on the thirteenth floor of the Sword-Testing Tower so many times that he now had an accurate sense of a Heavenly Sovereign’s strength.

Thus, when the battle began, Su Yi didn’t hold back. He had absolutely no intention of using Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s avatar to temper his Dao of the Sword. He was simply aiming for a swift victory!

And in the end, he succeeded. He drew on the power of the Sword of the Nine Hells and poured everything he had into his attack, killing Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s avatar of will on the spot!

When he watched Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s avatar fade, Su Yi felt an indescribable, heroic spirit well within his heart.

He took out a jug of wine, threw back his head, and drank with relish.

In the past, he could never have defended himself against a Heavenly Sovereign. He couldn’t have even struggled.

Thus, no matter how they targeted and suppressed him over the past few years, he had no choice but to suppress his anger and endure.

But things were completely different now!

He perhaps still couldn’t face a true Heavenly Sovereign in battle, but if he drew on the powers at his disposal, he could cut down a Heavenly Sovereign’s avatar!

And that despite still only being in the peak of the Silent Realm.

Su Yi knew that when he could defeat Heavenly Sovereigns’ avatars without external treasures, he’d have the foundations needed to shake the Heavenly Sovereigns for real.

And he was confident that that day wasn’t far off.

He let out a long sigh, tossed his empty wine jug to the ground, and started gathering the spoils of war. When he finished, he turned to leave.

......

Meanwhile, in Limitless Palace, preparations were underway for a grand banquet.

Sect Leader Hong Huayu stood in the distance, watching the others work. He was looking forward to receiving good news from the southern frontier.

He didn’t even need to think to know that Sevendeaths Court’s pursuit of Lian Luo and Pu Xuan was sure to lure Su Yi out into the open.

Now, they’d sent Ancestor Ling Huo and a group of Heavenly Monarchs to capture him, and they’d even brought their founder’s avatar of will with them!

Given the circumstances, there was absolutely no way they’d fail to capture Su Yi.

They’d begun preparing the banquet at Ancestor Ling Huo’s suggestion. It was intended to celebrate his triumphant return and his success in capturing Su Yi!

Sect Leader Hong Huayu naturally agreed.

The floors of the banquet venue were covered in red carpets. The atmosphere was lively and joyous. They’d even assembled a group of disciples proficient in instruments, and they’d already begun playing.

The joy was infectious, and Sect Leader Hong Huayu’s spirits rose.

Unfortunately, the founder had left several days prior in response to Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s invitation. He’d gone to the Blackwater Celestial Capital to discuss a matter of the utmost importance, and he’d yet to return.

Otherwise, he’d surely be delighted, too!

That said, Hong Huayu had already sent word to the founder, telling him that Su Yi had appeared in the southern frontier. It was highly likely that their founder would return soon.

Hua Hongyu had only just thought this when the terrifying majesty of a Heavenly Sovereign descended from the heavens.

Everyone was startled. All of them looked over to see what was happening. They then saw Heavenly Sovereign Wen, the founder of Limitless Palace, descend into their midst atop a blue cloud.

Hong Huayu was delighted to see him, and he immediately went up to greet him. “You arrived at just the right time, Founder.”

Heavenly Sovereign Wen scanned the banquet venue, then asked expressionlessly, “What are you doing?”

Hong Huayu suddenly realized that something wasn’t quite right about the founder’s expression, but he didn’t stop to ponder. He just said, “Founder, we’re arranging a banquet to celebrate a successful mission. Once Ancestor Ling Huo has successfully captured Su Yi alive, we can commence the festivities.”

Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s expression darkened. He struck Hong Huayu across the face, seemingly out of nowhere, delivering a crisp, resounding slap.

Hong Huayu was the leader of his sect, a lofty, prominent figure, yet now, he’d been slapped so hard that he flew backward, then rolled across the ground like a gourd.

A deathly silence descended over the area. Everyone was startled. They’d never seen the founder this angry before, and they’d certainly never seen him slap the sect leader like this.

What was going on?

Hong Huayu saw stars, and his mind buzzed. He’d been slapped silly.

Heavenly Sovereign Wen gnashed his teeth. “You have no idea what’s going on, yet here you are, preparing a banquet? You bastards! Are you that eager to host my destroyed avatar’s funeral!?”

His voice boomed throughout the area. All who heard it shuddered. What? Someone destroyed the founder’s avatar!?

“Are you planning to beat the drums and gongs and set off fireworks, too? Are you trying to tell the whole world? Do you want them all to laugh at me?”

Heavenly Sovereign Wen was so angry that steam billowed from the seven apertures of his face. His avatar had been destroyed, yet here his sect’s disciples were, preparing a celebratory feast like a pack of fools. If word got out, they’d be the biggest laughingstocks in the world!

The deathly silence deepened. Everyone was as quiet as cicadas in winter.

“I’ll deal with you lot later!” Heavenly Sovereign Wen rode off on his blue cloud, shooting through the sky. He made no attempt to disguise the characteristic aura of a Heavenly Sovereign as he shot toward the southern frontier.

Boom!

It was as if a thunderclap had gone off overhead, booming throughout heaven and earth.

The Divine Wandering Continent was incomparably vast, but wherever Heavenly Sovereign Wen passed, the skies rumbled and boomed, and strange and unbelievable phenomena appeared.

Misty clouds of the Grand Dao poured down from the heavens, and the Laws of the Grand Dao were made manifest. Arcs of wind and lightning surged through the depths of the clouds.

All of these strange phenomena were merely the result of a passing Heavenly Sovereign’s aura. It was like the Will of the Heavens was revealing itself, manifesting all manner of strange phenomena.

Years prior, during the battle in the Literati Continent, multiple Heavenly Sovereigns had joined forces. They too had invited all manner of strange phenomena, astonishing the entire continent in the process in much the same way.

Throughout the Divine Wandering Continent, countless cultivation factions were startled. There was no telling how many powerful cultivators sensed the disturbance.

A Heavenly Sovereign was on the move, but no one knew what he was going to do!

....

When Heavenly Sovereign Wen arrived in the southern frontier’s Obscured Heavens Mountain, his majesty swept forth like a windstorm, reaching endlessly far into the distance. It enveloped the mountains completely.

There was no telling how many of the beasts living deep in the mountain wilderness dropped dead from sheer fright.

The majesty of a Heavenly Sovereign was just too terrifying. It was like the power of Heaven’s Will.

Boom!

Heavenly Sovereign Wen appeared out of nowhere in a badly battered stretch of wilderness. He scanned the area, formed a hand seal, and struck the air.

Time flowed in reverse, and light and shadow intertwined to manifest one unbelievable vision after another. These were scenes of Su Yi’s battle with Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo and his followers.

But when Su Yi took out the Sword of the Nine Hells, the scene shattered; it seemed that some uncontrollable variable had arisen. All of the other scenes dispersed with it.

“It’s that sword!” Heavenly Monarch Wen narrowed his eyes.

Much of his anger had abated, and he’d regained his mental clarity.

He’d replayed most of the earlier battle, but ultimately, all he’d seen were visions. Even with the horizons and capabilities of a Heavenly Sovereign, he could only glean so much information from them.

According to the rumors, Su Yi is still only in the Silent Realm. How could he possibly kill Heavenly Monarchs with such ease? There’s got to be something fishy going on here! Heavenly Sovereign Wen frowned as he thought back to the visions of battle he’d seen.

Unfortunately, the scenes had too little detail. He couldn’t sense the fluctuations of the combatants’ cultivation bases, either.

It doesn’t matter if he used external power or relied purely on his own strength. Either way, this proves that the boy is already incomparably dangerous.

Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s eyes flashed.

He thought back to the God Domain, when Su Yi had yet to even step into Eternity.

Just a few years had passed, but Su Yi was now strong enough to suppress and kill Heavenly Monarchs!

The rate of his progress was truly terrifying.

He can’t have gotten far! He had less than an hour’s lead. He’d got to be nearby! Heavenly Sovereign Wen concluded, then shot deeper into the mountains without any further delays.

The sheep had already escaped the pen. It was too late to repair the fence and prevent an escape, but if he seized this opportunity to capture Su Yi, it would make up for everything they’d lost!

......

Su Yi was drinking alone in Dark Moon City.

When Heavenly Sovereign Wen traversed the skies, inviting all manner of shocking phenomena, Su Yi noticed immediately.

However, he disregarded them all and sat here quietly, watching the human traffic go by as he drained a jug of wine.

Then, he rose to leave.

Not long after he’d left, Heavenly Sovereign Wen appeared within the city, like a shark who’d caught a whiff of blood. He followed Su Yi’s trail to the tavern he’d been drinking in, and to Su Yi’s seat.

When he saw the empty seat and abandoned, empty wine jug, Heavenly Sovereign Wen furrowed his brow.

He was just about to leave when he suddenly noticed a line of text written in wine on the table. Someone had obviously dipped their finger in the liquid and used it as ink.

It read, “I’ll sever your dog head another day.”

There was even a crude drawing of a dog’s head beside it.

Heavenly Sovereign Wen was stunned.

It was a coarse, vulgar insult, yet for some reason, it felt like an unprecedented affront to his dignity. His heart filled with irrepressible murderous intent.

There was no doubt about it. Su Yi had anticipated his arrival. That was why he’d left that line of provocative text on the table.

There was no denying it. Sometimes, the crudest of insults were the most hurtful.

“Su Yi!” roared Heavenly Sovereign Wen. “You’d better not let me catch you!”

Boom!

The tavern exploded. Everyone in it died a brutal death, their blood splattering the ground.

Heavenly Sovereign Wen Shot into the firmament, billowing with murderous intent.

The people of Dark Moon City panicked. Everyone was overcome with terror. The ferocious majesty of a Heavenly Sovereign shocked and intimidated every last one of them.

Word of the battle in the southern frontier spread that very day, shaking first the Divine Wandering Continent, then the rest of the Eternal Heavens Domain.
