First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3015 - Directing Destiny

River Ancestor Lu Shu and Su Yi attacked together.

The three River Ancestors exchanged glances. River Ancestors Sparrow and Bai Mang joined forces to stop River Ancestor Lu Shu, while the Ape Ancestor fought Su Yi alone.

Boom!

A grand battle raged. The Ape Ancestor swung his black spear with monstrous force, then ruthlessly thrust at Su Yi.

The surrounding currents exploded beneath the force of this blow, the coursing waters thrown into chaos.

The black spear was like a beam of flowing light. It descended with unstoppable force.

After what had happened to River Ancestor Ji Dian, the Ape Ancestor naturally didn’t dare to get complacent.

Thus, he used his full power right from the start. His destructive power was shocking. This was every bit as strong as the full-force attack of a Heavenly Sovereign!

In the face of this strike, Su Yi’s blood and qi rapidly congealed. He sensed an impending, lethal threat. He didn’t even need to think to know that if he clashed with it head-on, he’d be badly injured or even dead.

But Su Yi had no intention of clashing with it head-on.

The moment the Ape Ancestor attacked, the Book of Destiny lit up in his grip.

It was indistinct, but he could dimly discern a cell opening within the Destiny Prison. A figure emerged, then charged explosively into the fray.

Boom!

The figure threw a punch. It was just one simple attack, but it blocked the Ape Ancestor’s spear. Fist force and spear collided with a heaven-shaking impact.

“Daoist Brother Ji Dian!?” the Ape Ancestor cried out, his eyes bulging.

The one who’d attacked out of nowhere was none other than River Ancestor Ji Dian, the one Su Yi had just imprisoned in the Book of Destiny.

River Ancestor Ji Dian’s worn-out armor glowed with dazzling, blood-red power of the Laws, his ferocity terrifying beyond measure.

This was obviously River Ancestor Ji Dian. Who else could he be?

But even if you’d hit the Ape Ancestor over the head, he would never have guessed that River Ancestor Ji Dian would help Su Yi attack him. Something seriously strange was going on here!

Before he could wrap his head around it, River Ancestor Ji Dian attacked without a word.

Beneath the surface of the River of Destiny, River Ancestor Ji Dian was famed for his bloodlust and terrifying strength. He was an infamous butcher!

When he attacked, he put immense pressure on the Ape Ancestor.

To the Ape Ancestor’s shock and fury, River Ancestor Ji Dian didn’t seem like he’d been possessed or like he was otherwise under another’s control.

But no matter how the Ape Ancestor tried to communicate with him, River Ancestor Ji Dian didn’t respond in the slightest.

Most infuriating of all, River Ancestor Ji Dian fought with no regard for his life, heedless of the consequences. He used every ability he typically kept in reserve with no concern for his own injuries!

Don’t tell me that the Book of Destiny has muddled his awareness and transformed him into Su Yi’s slave?

This thought had only just occurred to the Ape Ancestor when a low, inscrutable voice resounded in the depths of his heart.

“Hei Mi!”

The Ape Ancestor’s mind buzzed, followed by a splitting pain. It was as if a large, powerful hand were pulling his true name out of his body.

Throughout his body, his qi descended into disarray, his expression shifting as his soul practically fled his body for sheer panic.

Hei Mi was his true name!

Throughout the ages, no one else had ever learned it.

Yet now, someone had called it. Worse, he’d carefully placed a seal around his true name and hidden it within his vital source energy, but a mysterious power had enveloped it nonetheless. It was now threatening to strip it away!

This sudden development caught the Ape Ancestor off guard.

It was then that River Ancestor Ji Dian unleashed an endlessly terrifying killer move.

Boom!

Blood-red power of the Laws condensed into a bleeding furnace, which River Ancestor Ji Dian raised into the air. It then descended onto the Ape Ancestor.

It was just one attack, but it left the Ape Ancestor badly injured. He staggered to the ground, his body practically blasted to bits on impact.

The bloody cauldron was still pressing down on him, blood-red power emanating from its interior, like a poisonous, searing flame spreading all over his body.

He screamed desperately as his flesh burned. “Save me! Hurry——!”

His two companions were still locked in combat with River Ancestor Lu Shu. Their hair stood on end, and their expressions shifted.

But by the time they rushed to the Ape Ancestor’s aid, it was too late.

Su Yi was already taking a step forward, Book of Destiny in hand.

Weng!

An ethereal vision of the Divine Punishment Destiny Ruin appeared, full of the power of Destiny’s Wrath.

Destiny was connected to life, and life, to the heart. When the heart shattered, life ended. Losing one’s heart was like losing the foundation of one’s life and destiny.

And the power of Destiny's Wrath was a form of divine punishment from Destiny itself, a tribulation of the Destiny Soul!

Earlier, Su Yi used Directing Destiny to summon River Ancestor Ji Dian’s suppressed true name and summon him into battle.

Then he used Speaking Divine Writ to call the Ape Ancestor’s true name, shaking and intimidating his heart and vital source.

Now, Su Yi was imprisoning him in the first page of the Book of Destiny, just as he had River Ancestor Ji Dian.

Given Su Yi’s cultivation base, he shouldn’t have been able to do this. River Ancestors were, after all, comparable to Heavenly Sovereigns.

But the Buddha of Non-Existence and the Monarch of Endless Tribulations were helping him from within the book, and that made the impossible possible.

Su Yi let out a deep breath. I succeeded!

Suppressing his first opponent, River Ancestor Ji Dian, had been the most perilous, and the process left him riddled with wounds.

Suppressing his second opponent was significantly easier.

He used Directing Destiny to control River Ancestor Ji Dian, then used Speaking Divine Writ to act in tandem with the Monarch of Endless Tribulations and the Buddha of Non-Existence. Taking down the Ape Ancestor was naturally well within the bounds of possibility.

River Ancestors Sparrow and Bai Mang watched in horror. Both were overcome with shock. He’s only in the Immeasurable Realm, yet he used the taboo, unbelievable powers of the Book of Destiny to suppress the Ape Ancestor with ease!

Of course they were shocked! Who couldn’t have been?

It was to the point that their will to fight wavered.

River Ancestor Sparrow was the first to break down. He used a movement technique to flee without hesitation.

He really was scared out of his wits.

Going by pure combat strength, he was a bit weaker than River Ancestor Ji Dian, while his abilities were somewhat inferior to the Ape Ancestor’s.

He only bested them in speed.

Thus, when he chose to flee, he was gone in the blink of an eye. Not even River Ancestor Lu Shu could stop him in time.

River Ancestor Bai Mang planned to flee too, but the opportunity had slipped through her fingers. River Ancestor Sparrow had distracted her just long enough for Su Yi and River Ancestor Ji Dian to attack.

River Ancestor Bai Mang was frantic and furious, her youthful face ashen to the extreme.

She no longer dared to be negligent, so she let out a strange, shrill whistle.

Her cultivation base seemed to burn, and her face paled, blood pouring from its seven apertures. All the while, a terrifying power far greater than before gathered like mad within her.

Boom!

The currents churned. Everything swayed around them.

River Ancestor Bai Mang’s colorful clothes billowed around her as she suddenly erupted with hundreds of millions of streaks of golden light.

Despite River Ancestor Lu Shu’s extraordinary abilities, the golden light forced him back. He staggered on his feet, unable to advance.

Su Yi had no choice but to stop in his tracks and hide behind River Ancestor Ji Dian.

The countless golden lights spread, hurtling through the current with unstoppable, terrifying force.

Su Yi suspected that he wouldn’t survive if hit. The golden lights would blast him to bits on the spot.

Kaboom!

Golden light spread, and the surrounding nine hundred thousand feet of water boiled over, like a volcanic eruption, stirring up endless, turbulent currents.

River Ancestor Lu Shu immediately shot over to defend Su Yi.

Even with River Ancestors Lu Shu and Ji Dian working together, the turbulent golden light shook them on impact, forcing them backward.

By the time the dense downpour of golden light faded away and the turbulent waters returned to stillness, there was no sign of River Ancestor Bai Mang.

“It’s a pity.” River Ancestor Lu Shu sighed. Earlier, he’d come close to suppressing River Ancestor Bai Mang.

“The escape technique she used obviously came at a cost to her vitality and cultivation base,” said Su Yi, his gaze calm and inscrutable. “She managed to flee, but I can say with certainty that she won’t recover from those wounds any time soon.”

He’d noticed the way her vital energy burned, and blood poured from the seven apertures of her face as she launched that strike. Her face had been terrifying to behold.

“That’s indeed the case,” River Ancestor Lu Shu said with a nod.

A moment later, he looked at River Ancestor Ji Dian, who was now standing beside Su Yi. There was no disguising the shock in Lu Shu’s eyes. “What’s going on with him?”

Su Yi didn’t hide it. “The power of Destiny's Wrath already ground the real River Ancestor Ji Dian into nothingness. All that’s left of him is his true name. Now, all I need to do is use another technique to summon him. The summoned version is no different from the real thing.”

River Ancestor Lu Shu exclaimed, “Isn’t the Book of Destiny... a bit too powerful and taboo?”

River Ancestors were lofty, powerful existences, yet the Book of Destiny had just ground one away, leaving only his true name intact.

The owner of the Book of Destiny could now control the true name’s power to manifest the original toward his own ends. How terrifying was that?

Su Yi explained patiently, “Every time I use a River Ancestor’s true name, I have to wait another three months or so for it to recover. They’re killer weapons to keep in reserve, not something I can call upon at my leisure. Moreover, if a River Ancestor is destroyed in battle, they’re gone for good. There’s no way to repair them.”

River Ancestor Lu Shu blinked, then sighed. “That’s extraordinary even so!”

He still had a lot of questions, like “How did Su Yi figure out the Ape Ancestor’s true name?” and “How did the Book of Destiny suppress him?”

But these touched upon the Book of Destiny’s secrets, so River Ancestor Lu Shu considerately refrained from asking.

Even if Su Yi trusted him enough to answer, it wasn’t appropriate to ask. To do so was to violate a taboo!

Su Yi raised and waved his hand. River Ancestor Ji Dian blurred into a beam of light and vanished into the Book of Destiny.

He couldn’t help but feel a bit regretful, but it wasn’t because they’d let River Ancestor Bai Mang get away.

Rather, it was because he couldn’t use Seizing Destiny on a River Ancestor's true name with his current cultivation base!
