Sect Leader Hong Huayu and the old monsters stood outside the gates of Immeasurable Palace, awaiting their founder’s triumphant return.
“When the founder returns, we’ll find out just which brazen fool came to the Divine Wandering Continent to seek out his own humiliation!” someone said with eagerness.
“Sect leader, shall we arrange a banquet to welcome the founder back from his journey?” someone asked.
Hong Huayu’s eyelids twitched as an unbearable memory rose back to the surface.
Several years prior, in the battle of the Obscured Heavens Mountain, Hong Huayu assumed that Heavenly Sovereign Wen would succeed in capturing Su Yi alive. Thus, he personally ordered a sumptuous banquet to celebrate. He even arranged for musicians. He would never have guessed that the only thanks he’d get for his troubles would be a slap to the face!
This incident had long since left a shadow on Hong Huayu’s heart. Thus, when someone suggested they arrange a banquet, Hong Huayu barely resisted the urge to slap him. Why suggest that of all things!?
“No need for that. Let’s await his return, then act in accordance with his will,” said Hong Huayu, directly rejecting the idea.
He’d only just said this when an arc of dazzling light appeared over the horizon. This was none other than Heavenly Sovereign Wen!
Hong Huayu and the others’ spirits soared. They hurried up to welcome him.
“What are all of you doing here?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen asked expressionlessly as he passed through the gates.
He’d already hidden his wounds, so on the surface, he had all the usual majesty of a Heavenly Sovereign.
Sect Leader Hong Huayu hurriedly greeted him. “Founder, we were certain you’d return in triumph, so we’ve been waiting here to welcome you back.”
The other old monsters nodded along. “Exactly!”
They’re here awaiting my triumphant return? Heavenly Sovereign Wen fell into a daze. His expression darkened, and his lungs practically exploded with sheer fury.
He then slapped Hong Huayu in the face with a crisp, resounding crack. “Bastard! What, do you think I haven’t lost enough face already?”
Hong Huayu was the leader of Limitless Palace, a lofty expert in his own right, but this slap sent him flying backward. He shrieked in pain as his cheek swelled and his teeth flew from his mouth, then fell to the ground. His mind buzzed, and the impact left him seeing stars.
The other old monsters were flabbergasted. What’s going on? Why is the founder so angry?
“And you! Get the hell out of my sight, you eyesores!” Heavenly Sovereign Wen bellowed, his eyes surging with terrifying fury, as if he were selecting someone to devour.
He really was at the end of his rope. The earlier battle had been an enormous humiliation. He’d been left with little choice but to flee. It hadn’t been easy to make it back to the sect. He’d never even considered that these old fools would have gathered at the gates to “await his triumphant return!”
No matter how even-tempered he might have been, this was too much. Steam billowed from the seven apertures of his face, and he even felt the urge to kill.
The old monsters scampered off in panic, all of them stunned and bewildered. The founder rarely shows any sign of emotion on his face, so why is he so furious?
A moment later, they understood, as they saw Su Yi and Hua Qingyi shooting over from distant skies. They were still giving chase!
Hua Qingyi’s imposing majesty swept outward, enveloping heaven and earth like a windstorm. Countless stars flickered, manifesting all manner of celestial phenomena. Her power blanketed Limitless Palace on all sides. Standing in midair, she was like the Sovereign of the stars, proud and unparalleled!
Hong Huayu and the others reacted as if struck by lightning. They instantly understood. The founder... was chased all the way here! It’s no wonder he flew into a rage just now. It’s because we had no idea what was going on, so we did something stupid.
Boom!
Heaven and earth shook. The mountains and rivers swayed.
As soon as Hua Qingyi arrived, she raised her hand, and a river of stars condensed into a whip, which she then cracked at the gates of Huangting Grotto.
“You’re pushing me too far!” Heavenly Sovereign Wen took to the skies. All of Huangting Grotto rumbled and boomed as the Laws of Huangting fused with their master.
When Heavenly Sovereign Wen raised his hand and struck the air, a giant hand flew through the sky, effortlessly obliterating Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi’s whip.
Practically simultaneously, Heavenly Sovereign Wen stomped the ground. Countless dazzling arcs of lightning descended from the heavens, condensing into a world of electricity that bore down on Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi.
The power of this strike was terrifying beyond imagination. The skies over the Divine Wandering Continent rumbled and boomed as thunder rumbled overhead, and an air of destruction shook the entire world!
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi decisively helped Su Yi dodge.
Boom!
The air they’d stood in moments prior instantly collapsed. Everything was plunged into destruction.
“Why run?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen said coldly.
He was suddenly calmer, and his imposing majesty was even mightier than before.
Su Yi noticed that his aura had fused fully with Huangting Grotto. It even resonated with the laws of the entire Divine Wandering Continent!
This scene confirmed a universally acknowledged, ironclad rule. So long as their Heavenly Sovereign was there to oversee things, Heavenly Sovereign factions were undefeatable!
This was because their ancestral grounds and their founders’ foundations in the Grand Dao were one and the same. This let them connect with the supreme Laws of heaven and earth. This was one of the wondrous applications of an Eternal Throne.
Everyone in the Palace was startled, and all of them watched the proceedings nervously. None of them could have imagined that a Heavenly Sovereign would one day attack their ancestral grounds!
Su Yi was shocking enough, but the arrival of Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was even more unbelievable.
“We can’t fight him anymore.” Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi pursed her lips, then looked at Su Yi. “What do you think we should do next?”
Su Yi said casually, “Limitless Palace’s forces are spread across the continent. Even if we can’t destroy their ancestral grounds, we can eradicate their other bases.”
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi nodded. “That’s doable.”
Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s expression darkened. He couldn’t take it anymore. “Don’t you think you’re being overly despicable?”
Everyone in the sect was startled and furious. They were a Heavenly Sovereign faction; it was only natural that some of their experts and disciples were stationed outside the sect.
It was just as Su Yi said. Their forces were spread across the continent, and so too were their bases and economic ventures. If Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi and Su Yi went all out, they could absolutely deal Limitless Palace a heavy blow!
“Despicable?” Su Yi chuckled. “Who was it who declared every surviving member of the Heart-Tempering Sword House wanted? Who was it who joined forces with the other Heavenly Sovereigns to declare war against the Taiwu Sect? All I’ve done is give a tooth for a tooth, but you’re calling me despicable. You sure are something, Heavenly Sovereign Wen!”
Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s expression shifted erratically. He disregarded Su Yi, then looked at Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi. “The Eternal Heavens Domain has always had an unwritten rule. When Heavenly Sovereigns fight, they leave each other’s subordinates out of it. Are you planning to violate that rule and help Su Yi cause a commotion?”
Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi twirled a lock of her hair and said distractedly, “Those are your rules, not mine, and it’s not like I have a sect. I’m just one person, with no followers or disciples. Why should I concern myself with your rules?”
Heavenly Sovereign Wen was instantly at a loss for words.
The nine Heavenly Sovereigns each had their own factions. That was true even for Lu Hongpao and Heavenly Sovereign E, as although they’d never established sects, they still had a group of followers.
Hua Qingyi was the only exception. She traveled alone, acting as she pleased, never heeding worldly affairs. When a Heavenly Sovereign like her did decide to act, she had no need for reservations or misgivings of any kind.
Su Yi said suddenly, “Release the Aberrants and everyone from the Heart-Tempering Sword House, and we’ll leave immediately.”
He hadn’t brought this up during their earlier battle. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to, but that he knew that such talk would be useless unless he had an absolute advantage. Worse, Heavenly Sovereign Wen might well use the hostages for leverage.
It was different now. So long as Heavenly Sovereign Wen dared not leave his home turf, he’d be stuck on the passive.
“The Aberrants? The Heart-Tempering Sword House?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen blinked in surprise. “What do you mean by that? We haven’t imprisoned anyone from either faction.”
Su Yi’s brow furrowed. “You dare not admit to what you’ve done?”
Heavenly Sovereign Wen was so angry that he laughed. “If we had all those people hostage, would you still dare to be this brazen?”
Su Yi instantly fell silent. He’s right. If Limitless Palace had taken the Aberrants and the survivors of the Heart-Tempering Sword House hostage, they’d have used them to threaten me by now. There’s no way they’d have hidden them until now.
But if it wasn’t Heavenly Sovereign Wen... who was it?
Was it the Threelives Buddha? No, that’s impossible. If that bald donkey had a card like that, he’d have played it during our earlier negotiations. There’d have been no need to go to such lengths.
Something suddenly clicked for Heavenly Sovereign Wen. “Wait, are you saying that the survivors of the Heart-Tempering Sword House and the Aberrants were hiding in the Great Aberrant Ruins?”
Su Yi didn’t deny it; there was no need to hide it.
Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s expression darkened. He murmured, “It seems that bald donkey Threelives tricked me. He actually kept such important information from me...”
There was no disguising the anger and loathing in his voice.
The experts of Limitless Palace looked on in bewilderment. Wait, is the Threelives Buddha of Spirit Mountain Buddhist Court involved in this mess, too?
“Didn’t you sense it when Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan came to the Divine Wandering Continent?” asked Su Yi.
“So what if I sensed it?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen snorted coldly. “It’s not like I can read Ku Xuan’s mind. Besides, I don’t care what he or any of the other Heavenly Sovereigns do here so long as they don’t fight within the Divine Wandering Continent!”
Su Yi rubbed his brow. He was just about certain that Heavenly Sovereign Wen was telling the truth.
Suddenly, Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi transmitted, “We’d best leave. The other Heavenly Sovereigns are on their way here. I suspect that Heavenly Sovereign Wen alerted the others while we were chasing him. He’s most likely only willing to converse with you because he needs to stall for time.”
Su Yi was instantly solemn. A moment later, he raised his wooden sword and pointed it at Heavenly Sovereign Wen. “Ol’ Wen, let me make myself perfectly clear. Either you rescind the bounties on the experts of the Heart-Tempering Sword House, or I’ll become a frequent guest in the Divine Wandering Continent. We’ll just have to see who pays a greater price in the end!”
His voice was like the clanging of a sword. It boomed throughout heaven and earth.
Everyone in Limitless Palace stirred. All of them were furious. Su Yi was standing right outside their gates, yet even now, he dared to threaten and provoke them like this. What did he take them for? Did he really think that having Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi to back him up meant he could do whatever he pleased?
Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s expression darkened. In the past, he’d have dismissed such threats outright, but he could no longer disregard them. Even ignoring Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi, Su Yi was strong enough that if he acted on his threats, he could do massive damage to Limitless Palace’s operations throughout the continent.
Heavenly Sovereign Wen was a Heavenly Sovereign, but he couldn’t just stand on guard all day.
More importantly, Su Yi had already proven that he was strong enough to clash with Heavenly Sovereigns! Add Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi to the mix, and Su Yi’s words carried enormous weight. None would dare to underestimate him!
If Heavenly Sovereign Wen targeted another’s subordinate factions... it would be a disaster!
Ultimately, like it or not, Heavenly Sovereign Wen had no choice but to admit that Su Yi was qualified to make such threats, and that his threats carried enough weight that none would dare to disregard them!
“That’s all I have to say. Watch yourselves!” said Su Yi. With that, he and Hua Qingyi turned to leave.
Heavenly Sovereign Wen glowered as he watched them leave, but he said nothing. He made no attempt to stop them, either. Just like that, he watched in silence as Su Yi and Hua Qingyi left.
The other experts of Limitless Palace felt chills course through their hearts. It was obvious to anyone that although their founder seemed dispassionate, his inaction revealed much of the truth.
Even the old monsters couldn’t help but feel frustrated. Su Yi has seriously already grown strong enough to clash with Heavenly Sovereigns?
Before long, one arc of dazzling, shocking light shot over from the distant skies, each with a more terrifying aura than the one before.
These were none other than Heavenly Sovereign Changhen, Heavenly Sovereign Ling, and Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang!
Three Heavenly Sovereigns arrived together, their combined momentum shocking to behold. But Heavenly Sovereign Wen wasn’t the least bit happy about it. Hua Qingyi and Su Yi had left. What good would reinforcements do him now?
He sighed to himself, then walked up to greet them. His first words to them were, “Fellow Daoists, the heavens have shifted!
......
That very day, word of the battle in the Divine Wandering Continent spread.
This incident had caused such an enormous disturbance, affecting the entire continent. There was no hiding such a thing.
Many had pieced together the various hints and uncovered numerous leads. Then, as more and more details trickled in, the truth gradually came to light.
Su Yi had destroyed the Threelives Buddha’s clone, and the long-vanished Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi had returned!
Su Yi and Hua Qingyi had joined forces to fight an unparalleled battle against Heavenly Sovereign Wen.
Su Yi then stood before Limitless Palace and pointed his sword at Heavenly Sovereign Wen, issuing an ultimatum. If Limitless Palace didn’t rescind the bounties on the members of the Heart-Tempering Sword House, he’d seek retribution against Limitless Palace!
Heavenly Sovereigns Changhen, Ling, and Yaoguang arrived, but they were one step too late. Su Yi and Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi had already left. The reinforcements had missed the opportunity to intercept them.
Following this battle, Heavenly Sovereign Wen and the others held a secret meeting, but no one knew what they’d discussed.
These truths took the world by storm, sweeping across the Divine Wandering Continent before rapidly spreading to the Eternal Heavens Domain.
Everyone beneath the heavens was stunned, and everyone was in an uproar!
