First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3039 - Worldwide Upheaval

The Threelives Buddha sighed, then came out of hiding.

Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi was still locked in combat, her brow furrowed.

Su Yi sighed. “Rest assured, Fellow Daoist. That bald donkey wouldn’t dare to get involved. I’m sure of it.”

As his voice rang out, he glanced at the nearby Threelives Buddha, whose lips twitched in the face of this blatant provocation. He knew that Su Yi had seen through his intentions and was deliberately trying to anger him.

“Fellow Daoist, I doubt we can achieve our aims even if we team up,” the Threelives Buddha said with a sigh. “The opportunity has already slipped through our fingers. Now that Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi has joined the battle, we have no hope of ‘inviting’ Fellow Daoist Su to Limitless Palace. Pushing will do us no good.”

Heavenly Sovereign Wen flew into a rage. “You only just promised to cooperate with me, and you seemed completely confident in our success. Why are you going back on your word now?”

He looked utterly wretched.

Even as they conversed, Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi didn’t let up. She attacked ferociously, swinging her starry whip. Countless stars flew through the air with every swing.

Combined with Su Yi’s attacks on his heart, Heavenly Sovereign Wen was forced back repeatedly. His wounds piled on, and he knew he wouldn’t be able to fight back much longer.

It was at this critical juncture that his “ally,” the Threelives Buddha, suddenly changed his mind! Heavenly Sovereign Wen was furious at this betrayal.

“So... you two have been colluding this entire time,” Su Yi said with a cold laugh. He’d known that the Threelives Buddha wasn’t as agreeable as he pretended right from the start.

There was also no way he’d choose to have a falling out with Heavenly Sovereign Wen just to cooperate with his old enemy.

But not even he had anticipated that the bald donkey would “sow discord among his enemies” like this. Su Yi could picture it already: if Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi hadn’t gotten involved, the Threelives Buddha would have. He’d have joined Heavenly Sovereign Wen in suppressing him!

The Threelives Buddha laughed, disregarding Su Yi’s jeers. “All plans are contingent on having the strength to carry them out. Fellow Daoist Wen, heed my advice. You’d best return to Limitless Palace as quickly as possible.”

With that, he turned to leave. Soon, he’d vanished over the horizon. He was quick and direct, without dilly-dallying in the slightest.

Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s face was ashen with anger. He was so furious that he almost coughed up blood. But in the end, he didn’t linger any further, nor did he try to fight head-on. He just turned and left, too.

He couldn’t necessarily have defeated Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi one-on-one. With Su Yi in the mix, he had no hope of success at all. If things went on like this, his predicament would only get worse.

“Give chase!” Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi didn’t relent. She immediately gave chase.

Naturally, Su Yi had no objections. He followed shortly after.

They might not kill Heavenly Sovereign Wen in the end, but who’d miss this opportunity to kick him while he was down?

Heavenly Sovereign Wen fled as fast as he could while Su Yi and Hua Qingyi attacked together. Their combined powers enveloped the entire Divine Wandering Continent, filling its skies with apocalyptic visions. Its inhabitants watched in terror and unease.

Some of the older-generation cultivators guessed that these strange phenomena were the result of Heavenly Sovereign Wen fighting someone, but none of them could guess who. Who could possibly be so terrifying as to challenge a Heavenly Sovereign in his territories?

It was simply shocking and unheard of!

“If this battle of Heavenly Sovereigns continues, the people of the Divine Wandering Continent will be the ones to suffer. A cataclysm of the Grand Dao will descend and destroy us all,” someone said with concern.

When Heavenly Sovereigns fought, the skies crumbled and the earth caved in. True catastrophe followed!

If the Divine Wandering Continent was an ocean, then a battle between Heavenly Sovereigns was like a struggle between undersea dragons. Every blow stirred the currents and raised towering waves. The ocean’s fish and shrimp might have been innocent, but they were the ones who died en masse!

“Is this really the end?”

“We cannot run. The aftershock will spread throughout the entire Divine Wandering Continent. There’s nowhere to seek refuge!”

“They say that when Heavenly Sovereigns do battle, calamity follows. I’d taken that for a mere rumor, but now, I see it was no exaggeration...”

Throughout the Divine Wandering Continent, countless cultivators were overwhelmed with despair.

Meanwhile, Heavenly Sovereign Wen flew through the air and roared in fury, “Aren’t you done yet? You have to know you can’t win, so why won’t you just let me go?”

He really was frustrated, in part because of the Threelives Buddha’s betrayal, and in part because of his pursuers’ stubbornness. They had to know they couldn’t win, but they still wouldn’t let up.

“It wasn’t easy to get this opportunity to pummel you to my heart’s content, you old dog. How could I possibly let it slip through my fingers?” said Su Yi.

Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi said nothing, but she obviously had no intention of letting this end here, either.

Heavenly Sovereign Wen sighed to himself. He hadn’t let his anger overcome his rationality, and he knew that even if he escaped, this incident would leave his reputation in shambles. He’d be a laughingstock going forward.

The Divine Wandering Continent was, after all, his territory, yet now, he was scampering off in panic. How would the other Heavenly Sovereigns see him after this? And how would the general populace see it?

Of course, fame was fleeting and empty. Heavenly Sovereign Wen wasn’t overly fixated on that. He was much more concerned with the fact that Su Yi was already this terrifyingly strong!

Only a year had passed since the curtain fell on the Struggle for Heavenly Fate. Back then, Su Yi was heaven-defying enough to suppress all the world’s Heavenly Monarchs, but he still couldn’t block a single hit from a Heavenly Sovereign!

Just one short year had passed, but Su Yi was like a totally different person. He could now fight Heavenly Sovereigns!

Admittedly, Heavenly Sovereign Wen was still absolutely capable of annihilating Su Yi, but he couldn’t do so easily.

All of this came as a massive shock.

Su Yi was developing too quickly. He was no longer a junior they could crush on a whim!

Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi’s arrival had caught Heavenly Sovereign Wen off guard, too. That cold, aloof woman had never paid any heed to worldly affairs, and she’d vanished for countless years. Who could have imagined that she’d reappear as Su Yi’s helper?

And of course, the Threelives Buddha was the most loathsome of the bunch!

The way Heavenly Sovereign Wen saw it, had the Threelives Buddha helped, it might have come at a bit of a price, but they might well have had a shot at defeating Su Yi. Unfortunately... the bald donkey had turned his back on them, refusing to join the battle. Instead, he’d made a quick getaway!

At the same time, Hua Qingyi transmitted to Su Yi, “Can you hold on?”

Her black clothes and dark hair fluttered around her, drawing attention to her snowy skin and tall, graceful figure. That exquisitely beautiful face was utterly cold and indifferent. Even when expressing concern for Su Yi’s well-being, her voice was devoid of emotion.

Su Yi remembered “Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep” as cold, indifferent, and easily provoked. When angered, she’d raise her hooves and kick him, or even headbutt him. Naturally, there’d be no more of that. Su Yi couldn’t help but find it a bit of a pity...

“I can hold on,” Su Yi said calmly.

Hua Qingyi snorted coldly. “You still insist on acting tough, huh? You’re in such terrible shape, but you’re still acting stubborn!”

She raised her hand, and silver starlight enveloped Su Yi. His whole body instantly felt lighter as she carried him along, but that wasn’t all. That dreamlike, silver starlight was like sweet rains on parched earth; it nourished his depleted body, helping his wounds knit back together.

“Many thanks.” Su Yi smiled. Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep’s appearance has changed, but her personality hasn’t. She’s still cold on the outside and warm on the inside. Even when she cares about someone, she refuses to show it.

Su Yi suddenly transmitted, “Did we have any hope of actually killing Heavenly Sovereign Wen? I still have several cards I haven’t tried yet.”

Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi shook her head. “There’s no way.”

Su Yi had nothing to say to that.

“Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s Eternal Throne has fused with the Laws of the Divine Wandering Continent. Here, he’s a true ruler,” transmitted Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi. “Moreover, as a Heavenly Sovereign, he has far more cards up his sleeves than you realize. We never really pushed him into a corner. Had he gone all out, we’d have had no choice but to flee.

Su Yi couldn’t help but rub his forehead.

“Heavenly Sovereigns are called the supreme rulers of the Eternal Heavens Domain for a reason. Here, they’re like incarnations of Heaven’s Will. How could they be slain so easily?” said Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi. “Both during the Devastation and the New Beginning, there’s never been a Heavenly Sovereign worth provoking lightly. You’ll naturally understand when you become a Heavenly Sovereign yourself.”

Su Yi didn’t argue. He knew Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep was warning him with good intentions, and besides, he already knew Heavenly Sovereigns weren’t easy to kill.

“Also, don’t ever call me that name again!” Hua Qingyi suddenly transmitted, as if sensing his disrespectful thoughts. There was a hint of displeasure in her cold, beautiful eyes. She’d obviously gotten sick of the title “Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep” a long time ago.

Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh, but just as he was about to say something, Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep frowned. “The old-timer will soon return to his home base.”

Huangting Grotto was the ancestral grounds of Limitless Palace. When the grand battle began, it alerted everyone in the sect. Countless old-timers left seclusion and gathered. They weren’t worried about their founder’s safety. Rather, they were shocked—and curious. Just who could possibly be so bold as to fight their founder in his own territory?

“Tell the disciples to get back to whatever it was they were doing and not to make a fuss over nothing!" the sect leader ordered casually.

Someone promptly left to pass on his orders.

The sect leader then gathered the other old monsters for a chat over tea.

“I assumed the founder was fighting that Buddhist Heavenly Sovereign, but now, it seems obvious that that isn’t the case.”

“Then who could it be?”

“Who cares who it is? This is the Divine Wandering Continent. Here, the founder is invincible. Anyone who fights him here is just seeking their own humiliation!”

The general populace was terrified for their own safety, but the old monsters of Limitless Palace were calm and composed, and they laughed and chatted without a care in the world.

This was proof of their absolute confidence in their founder. They weren’t the least bit worried that anything would go wrong.

As they conversed, the sect leader suddenly rose and smiled. “Come on, let’s wait at the sect gates and prepare for our founder’s triumphant return!”
