Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 354: Excellent SoundproofJames said, "Don’t bother. My mother is the only one at home. Besides, she doesn’t lack anything."
"It doesn’t matter whether she needs it or not. As the daughter-in-law, I can’t go empty-handed for my first visit to my mother-in-law."
Yvonne looked at him and said.
James scratched the back of his head and said.
"Well, my mother likes the pastries from the cake shop on the South Street. When we pass by later, let’s get her something there."
"Okay."
She nodded her head.
In the evening.
The two brought a cake to his mother’s place.
"Mom, I brought Yvonne to come see you."
James shouted as soon as he entered the room.
Mrs. Taylor was in the kitchen. When she heard his voice, she immediately came out to greet them. When she saw them, her face lit up with joy.
"Yvonne, here you are."
It was the first time that Yvonne had visited Mrs. Taylor even though she knew some of her background.
It was rumored that Mrs. Taylor, the daughter of the richest man in Tomaville, had refused the courtship of many rich heirs both wealthy and politically powerful during her youth. In the end, regardless of the opposition from her family, she married Gary Taylor, who was just a little known broadcaster at that time.
After their marriage, Mrs. Taylor used her connections and resources to help Gary steadily build up the Taylor Corporation.
In the eyes of outsiders, the two of them were a model couple.
However, who would’ve thought that it wouldn’t be long before Gary’s illegitimate child was exposed.
As a result, the relationship between the two deteriorated.
From then on, there were all sorts of rumors flying around. Some included that after Mrs. Taylor found out about the illegitimate child, she confiscated all of his rights in the Taylor Corporation, so Gary had no choice but to return to the TV station.
Some said Gary had taken the initiative to resign from his position in the Taylor Corporation because he couldn’t stand Mrs. Taylor’s threats and was willing to go
back to be an ordinary broadcaster.
As for the truth, she had no idea.
However, she had great admiration for Mrs. Taylor. After all, not every woman had the courage to marry someone they liked.
Although it didn’t end up as a fairy tale, at least she loved him and tried her best.
"Mom, it’s my first time visiting you and James said that you like the pastries from the bakery on South Street, so we bought you a cake. I hope you like it."
Yvonne gathered her thoughts and politely said.
Mrs. Taylor asked the helpers to put away the cake and said happily, "Of course I like it. Thank you. Come, have a seat inside."
She held Yvonne by her hand.
Although Yvonne was not used to it, she still followed her obediently.
Mrs. Taylor sat her down on the sofa and observed her. She chuckled and said, "You and James make an awfully good-looking married couple. I am so glad you eventually married each other. I’m so happy to have you as part of our family."
Mrs. Taylor had a genuine smile on her face.
At one glance, one could tell that she liked Yvonne from the bottom of her heart.
Yvonne felt a sense of gratefulness to Mrs. Taylor. Her wealthy mother-in -law did not have an arrogance and distant feeling at all toward her. On the contrary, she was very friendly and nice. She felt comfortable and at ease with her interactions with her.
Yvonne’s tense nerves were instantly soothed.
They had a great time at dinner. After dinner, Mrs. Taylor persuaded them to stay overnight at her place.
"Yvonne, why don’t you stay over with James tonight. Tell the housekeeper if you need anything."
"This house has been newly renovated. The sound insulation effect is very good."
"Got it, Mom. Let’s call it a night. Go rest, you must be tired."
James was afraid that his mom would scare off Yvonne if she continued to talk, so he dragged her out.
...
After Mrs. Taylor went to her room, Yvonne surveyed her surroundings and realized that everything in the room was indeed as brand new as she had said.
Especially the big bed not far away, from the quilt to the pillow, everything was brand new. There were delicate rose petals sprinkled on the Egyptian cotton. Obviously, it was specially prepared for them.
Yvonne blushed. However, she appreciated Mrs. Taylor’s good intentions.
After James had sent his mother away, he returned to their bedroom. When he saw the room, he frowned, walked to Yvonne, coughed dryly, and said.
"Don’t mind what my mom said, she has no other intentions..."
"I know."
Before he could finish, she interrupted him.
On the contrary, she felt that Mrs. Taylor was quite down to earth.
"Then tonight..."
There was only one bed here, which made James a little distressed.
Although the bed had been delivered that day, they had no choice but to return it and make a new one because of the incorrect measurements.
So during this period of time, he had been sleeping in the guest room.
He had treated her very respectfully.
Although they had slept together previously, it was an exceptional case at that time.
Now that it was right in his face, he became a little nervous. After all, he was not sure what she thought.
She understood what he meant.
In fact, she was conflicted. Has she really accepted James?
She didn’t know either.
She did choose to marry him with an ulterior motive.
She also understood that since she was married, she had to fulfill her duty as a wife.
However, she still felt a little reluctant to do it at this moment.
Therefore, she paused and continued, "James, please give me some time?"
He stared at her without saying a word.
She continued, "I know I’m being pretentious, but I don’t want to lie to you. We are married, but I still don’t have that kind of feelings for you. I don’t want to do things
perfunctorily with you, which is disrespectful to you."
He understood what she had said.
In fact, he was not willing to force her to do anything against her will.
He paused and said, "I understand. There’s no hurry. I’ll sleep on the sofa tonight."
As he spoke, he walked towards the large bed.
She followed after him.
"No, I’ll sleep on the sofa."
As she spoke, she picked up the pillow on the bed before he could do anything.
He looked at her and said.
"I’m a man, don’t fight with me."
He took the pillow from her hand and walked toward the sofa.
She stood there and looked at his back, feeling a little guilty.
That night, both of them fell asleep on their own.
The next day, they were woken up by a knock on the door.
The first to wake up was Yvonne, who was sleeping on the big bed.
Hearing the knock, she slowly got out of bed and was about to open the door when she was stopped by James, who woke up later.
"Wait a minute."
He quickly got up, put the pillow and quilt on the big bed in a rush.
Then, as she looked bewildered, he messed up the big bed.
After that, he turned to her and said, "I’ll open the door. When my mother comes in later, don’t let the cat out of the bag."
He walked to the door and opened it.
Sure enough, Mrs. Taylor walked in happily as soon as the door opened. "I hope I didn’t disturb you."
She looked at Yvonne and asked.
Yvonne was stunned. She was about to say something when James beat her to it.
...
"Mom, how can you knock on the door so early in the morning and not let us sleep more?"
James was afraid that she would expose them, so he deliberately walked over and put his arm on her shoulder to stop her then leaned against her intimately.
He was heavy and Yvonne did not understand his intention so she wanted to push him away.
"Don’t move."
He raised his lips and whispered into her ear. When he looked away, his lips inadvertently brushed her earlobe. They were stunned for a moment.
Especially for Yvonne, her ears instantly turned red, and even her cheeks were dyed pinkish. She stood rooted to the spot, not daring to move.
When Mrs. Taylor saw that, she naturally interpreted it differently from the truth. She quietly observed the room. When she saw that the bed was in a mess and the two pillows were placed side by side on the bed, she felt relieved.
"That’s true. Young people don’t have the habit of waking up early. I was muddled. Continue sleeping, enjoy the cool weather. Sleep as long as you like."
She turned around happily and closed the door behind her.
Yvonne was left with a blank expression on her face. "Is the weather good today?"
She subconsciously looked out of the window, the sky looked gloomy and as she turned, Thomas’ face was up close against hers. Only then did she realize that he was still leaning against her, so she quickly nudged him away with a blushed face.
"Stand still."
He stared at her pinkish face as if he had found something fun. It was the first time he had ever seen her so timid and awkward.
His playful nature was tickled.
"I got up too suddenly and feel dizzy. Give me a hand."
She was speechless. How long had he been awake? Why was he still feeling dizzy?
How long did his reflex arc last?
However, even though she knew that he was faking it, she still helped him onto the bed.
"Rest a while."
She turned around and was about to leave.
"Where are you going?"
He asked.
"I’m going to wash up."
"Didn’t you just tell my mom you wanted to sleep a little longer?"
"That’s what you said. I didn’t."
With that, she turned and walked toward the bathroom.
Thomas laid on the big bed and turned over comfortably.
The sofa was too hard. He had aches all over his body after a night’s sleep. The big bed was more comfortable, especially the area he was rolling on was where Yvonne had slept on. The pillow and blanket had her scent on them.
He couldn’t help breathing in her sweet aroma and closed his eyes, intoxicated.
When she came out of the bathroom and saw that he had gotten out of bed, she walked over and asked, "Didn’t you say you wanted to sleep for a while more?"
He went to the wardrobe to get his clothes and said, "There is work I need to attend to at the company. I have to go in today."
"Then what should I do?"
Since Thomas was not going to be around she wasn’t going to stay there alone. It would be too awkward.
He looked at her then said, "You can stay here. I’ll pick you up when I’m done."
She thought since she is free, why not, so she nodded in agreement.
When he went to the bathroom to get ready, she went downstairs.
She didn’t bring any clothes with her when she came over last night, and it was her mother-in-law who had prepared her pajamas for her. Now, she had no choice but to wear them for breakfast.
When she came downstairs, her mom-in -law had already prepared breakfast. When she saw Yvonne coming downstairs, she immediately went up to her and asked affectionately, "Why didn’t you sleep a little longer?"
"Since I am awake, I couldn’t fall asleep again so it’s time to get up."
Mrs. Taylor led her to the dining table and personally served her a bowl of oatmeal.
"You must be tired from last night. Come eat something. Get some energy back into your system."
