Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 355: Don’t Spoil HimYvonne was a little embarrassed as she looked at the coarse grain oatmeal in her bowl.
"Thank you, Mom."
"Go on, eat up. By the way, where is James? Is he still sleeping?"
Mrs. Taylor asked.
Yvonne replied truthfully, "He’s changing clothes. He said that he has something important to attend to at the office."
Mrs. Taylor frowned. "What’s up at the office? Going to work right after getting married? I’ll talk to him about it."
As she spoke, she got up and was about to go upstairs.
Seeing this, Yvonne was about to stop her.
Just then, James came downstairs.
"James, you’ve just gotten married. Why are you going to work right after? Leaving Yvonne by herself."
"Mom, I have something important at the company. I have to go."
"What could be more important than Yvonne? You can’t go."
As Mrs. Taylor spoke, she pushed him down and made him sit beside Yvonne.
"Your mission during this period of time is to accompany Yvonne. You’re not allowed to go anywhere else."
Her tone left no room for discussion.
James felt frustrated.
Seeing this, Yvonne said, "Mom, I am fine alone. Besides, don’t I have you to accompany me? If James has something important to do, let him go."
"Yvonne, you don’t understand. Work will never end. This man will only be able to spend time with his wife during his honeymoon. After this, you will have a hard time seeing him. Don’t spoil him."
"Mom, you are exaggerating."
"Really? This is my mom????" He thought.
"I don’t care. You are staying in and keeping your wife company, no matter what."
In the end, upon Mrs. Taylor’ insistence, James put aside his work for the time being and stayed with Yvonne for the day.
He was more than delighted to spend the entire day with her.
"Come on, I’ll show you around."
After the meal, afraid that she would feel bored if she stayed in the house, he took her out into the yard.
The Taylor’s manor covered a huge area. In addition to the main house and the front yard, there was a lawn in the backyard, which could accommodate about three or four hundred people.
Even though it was already winter, the lawn was still a dark green shade. In the bleak scenery, it was particularly pleasing to the eye.
Yvonne closed her eyes and let the tranquilness seep into her. "I often came here to play when I was a child." James said quietly.
She opened her eyes, glanced at him, and asked, "What did you play as a child? Flying kites?"
The first thought that came to her mind when she walked over was to fly a kite.
"What’s so interesting about a kite? It’s more interesting to sit in a hot-air balloon. You wanna try it?"
"You mean now???" She was excited and astonished.
He nodded. Without waiting for her response, he stood up, brushed off the grass from his pants and said, "Wait for me."
With this, he ran to the main residence in a hurry.
Although she did not understand what he was going to do, she still followed his instructions and waited there.
After an unknown period of time, she saw that he had still not returned. Just as she was about to go in and take a look, a rainbow-colored hot-air balloon slowly landed in front of her.
"Yvonne, come up."
He stood inside and waved at her.
She froze, then upon recovery, walked over.
She looked at the hot-air balloon in front of her, which was two or three times taller than her. She was a little excited. "Can I?"
"Of course! Give me your hand and I’ll help you in."
...
Yvonne hesitated for a moment before slowly reaching out her hand.
James waited for her to stand still before he slowly started the hot-air balloon.
She stood there, a little nervous, but when she saw that they were gradually leaving the ground, she suddenly felt relieved.
Looking at the lawn that was getting farther and farther away, she suddenly felt that it was amazing.
It was a desolate land below, with a broad blue sky above it. Sitting on the hot-air balloon, she was like a dividing line between earth and the heavens, getting farther and farther away from the earth.
It was like her own life now. Step by step, she was distancing herself from her own family.
As if she just started a new life.
However, she did not know if she could fly to a wide blue sky like what she was doing then.
"How is it? Is it interesting?"
He asked.
She nodded and said, "It’s quite interesting, but how high can we fly?"
She was very curious.
"About 33 feet, but the air gets thinner the higher we go, so the lesser the oxygen and we will need to wear oxygen masks."
After hearing his explanation, she was shocked. She didn’t realize that they could fly so high.
She said, "Have you prepared oxygen tanks and masks?"
He smiled and said, "Of course I’m ready, but it’s a little risky. Why? Do you want to take the risk?"
Hearing this, she kept silent.
Just then, a thought flashed through her mind and she did want to take the risk.
But on second thought, she couldn’t be so selfish.
It was one thing to drag him into her fight with Grace, but how could she let him take such risk with her?
When she thought about this, she turned to look at him. After a pause, she shook her head and said, "Forget it, I’m just asking about it for fun."
However, he took it seriously.
"I am serious. If you want to take the risk, let’s do it..."
"No, let’s not."
She interrupted abruptly.
Her tone was stiff, and he was stunned.
When she met his stunned eyes, she realized that she had been in a hurry to refuse, and had forgotten her tone. She quickly explained, "I didn’t mean anything. I just felt that it was too dangerous, and I didn’t want to take the risk. I just asked for fun. Don’t take it to heart. Let’s enjoy the scenery."
She said awkwardly.
He could tell that she was not speaking the truth, but he did not question her further. He followed her gaze and looked at the scenery in the distance.
"Should we have a good shout?"
When the hot-air balloon flew up to a higher altitude, he suggested.
She, however, remained silent as she gazed off into the distance.
He did not care and shouted towards the distance.
"Hello..."
The echo continued to come from afar. As the echo rang in her ears, she slowly turned to look at James.
There was a huge grin on his face, sparkles in his eyes like a child’s playfulness. He looked so positive and hopeful.
Envy arose from the bottom of her heart.
Once upon a time, she had lived a carefree and simple life.
However, ever since she had read her mother’s diary, everything had changed.
After learning that her mother did not commit suicide because of depression, her whole world was turned upside down.
All the cognition she had gained from her childhood had suddenly been covered with a thick layer of fog. The people and things that she was familiar with and believed in had all of a sudden become so strange, it made her fearful. Yet she urgently wanted to find the answers.
During this time, her mood was in a constant violent dilemma.
...
It was not a bad idea to shout to one’s hearts content and release it all out here.
As such, like Thomas, she started shouting towards the distance.
"Hello..."
A short while later, there was an echo.
Like some sort of magic, it allowed her feelings to be eased up.
Then, she shouted a few more times.
For some time, the echoes of the two rang continuously in the sky.
Even until the hot-air balloon rose to a certain height, then slowly drifted, and then landed on the ground, her emotions could not calm down.
"How is it? Do you feel much better?"
Thomas asked.
Yvonne nodded. "I feel refreshed."
He chuckled and reached out to carry her down, saying, "I’ll take you more often on such trips in the future."
"Sure."
She followed him onto the ground. When she looked at the green grassland again, she felt a sense of warmth.
"By the way, is it really okay if you don’t go back to the office?"
He paused then said, "It’s really not a big deal."
"So it is a big deal."
She read between the lines.
He nodded and said honestly, "Recently, there have been some problems in the company, and we have been adjusting the internal system. It’s a critical period, but it’s more important to be with you."
Hearing this, she felt a little guilty. She paused for a moment then said, "Why don’t you take the opportunity that Mom isn’t back yet to go to the office? If she asks about it later, I’ll explain to her."
He hesitated for a moment, then shook his head and said, "Forget it. My mom is right. We just got married. I do need to spend more time with you. I will find a way to solve the problems in the company."
"But..."
"No buts. Let’s go. There is a strong wind blowing. Let’s go in first."
Without waiting for her reply, he took her hand and led her into the house.
The two of them stayed at the Taylors till the afternoon.
Initially, Mrs. Taylor did not agree to the two of them going back, but she succumbed to James’ coaxing and pestering. In the end, she let them go home.
After returning to her residence, Yvonne felt so relieved.
After all, it was hard to pretend to be in love all the time while Mrs. Taylor was around.
"You... Would you like to go back to the office? I’m fine at home alone."
After returning home, she remembered about his company issues and so she asked.
He glanced at the time. There was still some time before dinner. He pondered then said, "All right, I’ll go back to the office. You stay home, I’ll pick you up for dinner later."
She nodded and watched him leave. Then, she went back to the bedroom to sort out her stuff.
She put away the daily necessities she had bought from the supermarket the day before.
Looking at the sets of toiletries in the bathroom, she became emotional. Is this married life?
At this moment, her phone suddenly rang. She took it out and glanced at it. It was Grace.
Thinking of how she and James had embarrassed Grace that day, she could not help but sneered as she answered the phone.
"Come out and meet me?"
Grace didn’t sound very nice.
"Is there a need for us to meet?"
"Don’t you think that you can be arrogant after marrying into the Taylors. Let me tell you this, even if the Whites are down and out, we are still above the Taylors."
Grace snorted coldly.
"So what? What exactly do you want to tell me?"
Yvonne retorted.
"You’ll know when you meet me. I’m at the Starbucks on Fullerton Road."
Grace hung up the phone without waiting for her reply.
