Chapter 114: Chapter 114
"Mommy, can I swim now?"
Lane looked over at her son the second she heard his voice. He was staring right back at her, waiting for the green light.
"In a little bit, Calvin. It’s still too hot out,"
Lane told him. "I’ll jump in with you later," she added. She wasn’t about to let him hit the water alone. She wasn’t taking any chances with his safety.
The family was already settled in at Sandbridge Beach.
They were staying the night because Ethan had booked a private room right on the water. It even had its own pool outside so they could hang out and watch the sunset together.
Lane noticed Calvin pouting. The kid was clearly dying to get in the ocean.
"I’ll go with him, Lane."
She looked up at Ethan as he spoke. He stood up from his spot on the beach blanket she’d laid out on the sand.
"But it’s still scorching," she argued when their eyes met.
"The sun is brutal right now. You’re gonna get fried."
"It’s fine," Ethan brushed it off.
"We won’t stay out long. I just want to let him swim since he’s so stoked about it."
She just sighed. She knew Ethan couldn’t say no to their son; he really did spoil the kid rotten. "Fine," she finally relented.
"Yay!" Lane shook her head with a smile. The joy on Calvin’s face was contagious.
"Oh, so you found yourself an ally, huh?" she teased, glancing at her son.
"Of course, Mommy. Daddy loves me," Calvin replied proudly.
Lane faked a pout. "What? Doesn’t Mommy love you too?"
Calvin’s eyes went wide, and he suddenly lunged for a hug. They almost wiped out on the sand, but Lane’s reflexes kicked in, and she managed to brace herself with one hand. From the corner of her eye, she saw Ethan reach out to catch them, but she already had it under control.
"Mommy, you know I love you the most," Calvin whispered.
"Oh yeah? Who do you love more: Mommy or Daddy?" she joked.
The kid actually went quiet for a second, looking torn. Finally, he opened his mouth.
"You, Mommy. Then Daddy," he answered.
Laughing, she cupped his face and kissed his cheek.
"I’m just kidding, Calvin. I know you love me. And I know you love your Daddy a ton, too."
He nodded eagerly.
"Yes, Mommy. I love you and Daddy so, so much."
She smiled, looking up to find Ethan watching the whole scene. His expression was soft, his eyes filled with nothing but pure devotion for both of them.
She turned back to Calvin.
"Alright, let me slather some more sunscreen on you, sweetheart, before you hit the waves."
Lane grabbed the bottle from her bag and adjusted his rash guard.
She’d already put some on him earlier, but she wasn’t taking any risks with the afternoon sun. She got his arms and then made sure to cover his neck thoroughly.
When she finished, she looked up at Ethan. "You’re next. Let me get some on you," she said.
He paused for a beat, then gave a slow nod. Lane’s jaw nearly hit the sand when Ethan grabbed the hem of his T-shirt and yanked it off right in front of her.
He was showing off a massive chest and a rock-solid eight-pack.
Even though she’d seen him shirtless plenty of times, it still hit her like a ton of bricks. The man was built like a god.
He knelt down in front of her. Lane pouted as his scent hit her—that familiar, intoxicating smell. He held out his hand, a smug smirk playing on his lips when he caught her staring at his muscles.
Then, he leaned in and whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine.
"If you want this body, Lane, you can have it later," he rasped. She felt her face go up in flames.
"I’m all yours tonight. You can do whatever you want with me. Touch it, taste it, all of it."
She pushed him away the second she found her voice, checking to make sure Calvin was distracted and hadn’t heard a word. She gave Ethan a playful pinch on the side, which just made him chuckle.
.....
"Give me your hand," she said, pretending to be annoyed. He grinned and obeyed. She started rubbing the lotion in.
"Don’t forget here," he said, pointing to his broad chest. She applied it silently, trying to keep her cool.
"Lower, Lane," he added in a husky tone. She shot him a glare, but he just kept grinning.
"Come on, you don’t want my abs getting burned, do you?"
He was totally messing with her and loving every second of it. She glanced at Calvin, saw he was busy looking at the waves, and decided it was time for some payback.
She squirted more lotion into her palm and started working it into his abs, slowly sliding her hand lower and lower until her fingers slipped just inside the waistband of his board shorts. She didn’t go far, but she stayed long enough to make her point.
She looked up and saw his eyes go wide, his mouth dropping open. His breathing hitched, becoming heavy and ragged. Lane couldn’t help but grin at his reaction.
She pulled her hand back. "Turn around, Ethan. Time for your back," she said, the smirk never leaving her face.
Ethan bit his lip, trying to regain his composure.
"You’re gonna get it later, Lane," he warned before turning around.
Her smile only grew. She couldn’t explain the thrill those words gave her. She could only imagine what he had planned.
Once he was covered, Ethan stood up.
"Mommy, aren’t you coming?" Calvin asked.
"Come swim with me and Daddy!"
"In a little bit, Calvin," she promised.
"Yeah, later with me too, Lane," Ethan added with a look.
Her eyes widened, but before Calvin could ask what that meant, Ethan was already leading him toward the water.
Lane watched them walk hand-in-hand toward the surf.
She couldn’t help but beam. She felt like all the past heartaches were finally being washed away by this overwhelming happiness.
She never would’ve guessed that the man who broke her heart would be the one to heal it so completely.
But the smile faded pretty fast when she noticed a group of women in bikinis eyeing her husband. They weren’t even trying to hide it. They were straight-up thirsting after him.
She shot them a look that should have set them on fire. The nerve, she thought, feeling a wave of annoyance hit her.
Her blood really started to boil when a woman in a tiny red two-piece started following them into the water.
This woman actually had the audacity to adjust her top right in front of Ethan, clearly trying to show off her assets to get his attention.
Luckily, Ethan didn’t even give her a second look. If he had, he’d be sleeping on the porch of the cottage tonight.
Before the woman could try another move, Lane stood up abruptly. She untied her summer dress and let it fall, revealing her own black bikini.
She’d kept her figure in check after Calvin was born. She was still toned and fit.
She kept her eyes locked on the woman in red as she started walking toward her husband and son. If she makes one more move, I’m drowning her, Lane thought.
She noticed a few guys on the beach staring at her as she walked by, but she pulled an Ethan and ignored them completely. Her eyes were only on her family.
Calvin spotted her first and his face lit up. He started waving like crazy. "Mommy!"
Ethan turned around, and she saw his mouth drop as he took her in. But then his lips thinned when he saw the other guys staring at her. She could see the possessiveness flaring in his eyes.
The woman in the red bikini glanced back at her, looking a little less confident now.
"Mommy!" Calvin ran over to meet her. Ethan stayed put, his gaze locked on her as she approached.
"What are you doing out here, Lane?" he asked, his voice low and stern.
"Joining the fun," she said with a smirk.
"And what exactly are you wearing?" he asked, ignoring her answer.
"A bikini? Same as everyone else," she challenged.
He looked past her at the men watching them, and she saw his jaw clench hard. He wrapped an arm around her waist and hauled her in close.
"Fuck, Lane. Go put some clothes on," he whispered in her ear.
"I’m about two seconds away from catching a murder charge for every guy looking at you."
Lane hid a smile. It was nice to know they were both just as crazy about each other.
