Chapter 118: Chapter 118
After discussing the wedding details, Miss Ivy left, and Lane pulled her phone from her bag.
They had talked for almost an hour because she had invited Ivy to eat first, as it was easier to chat on a full stomach.
Lane’s lips twitched in irritation when she saw a barrage of text messages from Ethan. She stared at them for a moment before deciding to read through them.
Lane raised an eyebrow when she read Ethan’s apology. He seemed to realize why she was annoyed, specifically about his earlier comments. She read a few more messages.
Some asked where she was and offered to come find her, but most were just apologies.
She wanted to reply, but her annoyance returned, as she hadn’t forgotten his earlier words.
Instead of responding, she put her phone away, stood up, and left the coffee shop.
The office was nearby, so she quickly returned.
"Ma’am, Sir Ethan was looking for you," her secretary said when she walked in.
"He has already called me," Lane replied.
She took a deep breath before opening the door.
She expected to see Ethan’s dark eyes the moment she entered the office, but her expectation was not met because Ethan was not inside.
She frowned and looked toward the bathroom, thinking he might be there, but it was also empty. She turned back to her secretary.
"Where is Ethan?" she asked.
"Ma’am, he left," her secretary replied. Lane frowned again. She just nodded before fully entering the office.
She wondered where Ethan had gone, likely to look for her. Lane pouted at the thought but decided against texting him. He would be back. She turned her attention back to the computer to continue working.
A few seconds later, the door opened, and as she looked up, she heard the high-pitched voice of her son, Calvin.
"Mommy!"
A smile appeared on her lips when she saw her son running toward her.
"Careful, Calvin," she said.
She swiveled her chair to face him as he approached. "Hello, Mommy," he said sweetly.
"Hi," she greeted him with a smile.
"Is Miss Mae with you, Calvin?" she asked.
Calvin shook his head. "No, Mommy. It’s Daddy who’s with me."
He looked toward the door, and just as Lane lifted her eyes, Ethan entered the office. She was surprised to see what he was holding. It was a bouquet of flowers.
"Mommy, Daddy brought flowers earlier. He said they’re for you because you’re mad at him," Calvin said. She shifted her gaze from Ethan down to her son.
"Mommy, why are you mad at Daddy? Did he do something bad to you?"
Her lips parted, but she didn’t know what to say. Before she could answer, she felt Ethan stop in front of her and call her name.
"Lane," he said in a tender voice.
Lane pressed her lips together. She couldn’t explain why tears suddenly filled her eyes.
She looked up. He offered her the bouquet of flowers. "I’m sorry," he said.
At that moment, she couldn’t stop the tears from falling. She noticed Ethan’s eyes widen when he saw them. She bowed her head, unable to hold back when she saw his pleading look.
She quickly wiped her eyes, but more tears fell when Calvin hugged her, moved by her crying.
"M-mommy?" She heard the tremble in Calvin’s voice. "Why are you crying, Mommy?"
She was about to answer but stopped when she felt Ethan hug her too.
"I’m really sorry, Lane," Ethan said.
"I’m sorry if you thought I didn’t care about our wedding just because I let you make the decisions. I’m sorry if you think I’m not making an effort."
"That’s not what I meant, Lane. Like I said, I let you make the decisions and choose what you want because I’m with you on whatever you pick. Marrying you is what’s important to me,"
he explained.
"Please don’t be mad at me. I can’t bear it when you’re angry. I promise, Lane, I will help you with the wedding preparations. Ask me anything, and I’ll help you choose. Just please don’t be mad."
Tears continued to fall, but she wiped them away. She realized she might have been too immature and too sensitive. If she felt annoyed with Ethan earlier, now she felt guilty for her own reaction.
"I’m sorry too, Ethan," she apologized.
Ethan released her from the hug and gently cupped her cheeks, looking straight into her eyes. He wiped away the remaining tears from her face.
"You don’t have to apologize, Lane," Ethan told her.
"Mommy, are you and Daddy okay now?" Calvin asked a moment later.
She looked down at him.
"Your Daddy and I didn’t fight, Calvin," she replied.
"Your Mommy is right, Calvin. We didn’t fight," Ethan agreed.
"Okay, Daddy, Mommy," Calvin replied. "Please don’t fight, okay? Because it hurts here," he added, pointing to his heart.
"Never, sweetheart."
"No, Calvin."
They both answered almost simultaneously.
Calvin raised his little hand in front of them.
"Promise?"
Ethan and Lane looked at each other before raising their right hands to promise him.
"Promise," they both answered in unison.
Calvin hugged them. "I love you, Mommy and Daddy!"
Ethan shifted closer and hugged them both. "We love you too," he whispered as he held them tight.
....
Lane stopped walking when she saw Ethan stand up from the outdoor lounge as he spotted her. She stayed where she was as she watched him step toward her.
She noticed his forehead furrow slightly while he looked at her. Lane couldn’t help but wonder about his expression. When he got close, he immediately took the tray of snacks she was holding.
"Why are you doing this, Lane?" he asked her.
"Huh?" she asked, a bit confused by what he meant.
"Why did you get the snacks? Why didn’t you have Clara do it?" he asked. "You’re not my maid here," he added.
Now she understood why he had that expression. "I can handle it, Ethan," she answered.
He was about to speak again, but she stopped him by placing her index finger on his lips. "You know I really like serving you all," she said to him.
"It’s my way of showing how much I love you," she added.
A moment later, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow when she saw his cheeks turn red.
"Why are your cheeks blushing, Ethan?" she asked him.
He cleared his throat and looked away. "It’s just hot out here," he replied.
"Even your ears are red?" she asked, unable to suppress a smirk. Instead of answering, Ethan stepped past her.
She laughed and followed him. "Did what I say make you blush?" she teased him.
Ethan just kept walking.
"Did I make you giddy by saying I love you?" she continued teasing. Ethan set down what he was carrying on the coffee table in the garden where they were. She was surprised when he turned to look at her.
Her eyes widened at what he did next because he grabbed both her cheeks and kissed her on the lips.
She could feel him nibbling on her lower lip until he pushed his tongue inside her mouth.
For a few seconds, she couldn’t move. But when she recovered from the shock, she opened her mouth to give him free rein to kiss her. She started kissing him back.
A moment later, Lane froze when she heard her son’s voice.
"Mommy?"
She quickly pushed Ethan away. When she looked to her side, her cheeks turned bright red because Calvin was standing right there.
She moved quickly away from Ethan to approach her son. She cleared her throat. "Yes, Calvin?" she asked him.
"Mommy, I’m hungry," he said to her.
"Oh, I prepared some snacks," she told him.
She invited her son to the lounge. After that, she took the cookies she had baked earlier to give to him. She felt Ethan sit beside her.
"Do you want some, Ethan?" she asked about the cookies.
Instead of answering, he brought his mouth close to her ear. "I want you, Lane," he whispered in her ear.
Her cheeks turned red again. It seemed Ethan noticed because this time, he was the one teasing.
"Blushing, Lane?" he said with a smirk.
As an answer, she just pinched his side, causing him to laugh. Lane shook her head with a smile.
...
"Mommy... Daddy... wake up."
Lane woke up when she heard Calvin’s sweet voice, and she felt him shaking her arm. She opened her eyes slowly. As she opened them, she saw Calvin standing between her and Ethan, peering down at them.
She saw Ethan slowly open his eyes, looking like he was also woken up by Calvin.
"Good morning, Mommy. Good morning, Daddy," Calvin greeted them with a smile. He leaned in to give them a kiss on the cheek. After that, he sat between them.
"Morning," both Ethan and Lane greeted him almost simultaneously.
"Mommy, Daddy, wake up," he said to them.
"You woke up so early, son," Ethan said as he looked at the time on the alarm clock on the bedside table.
"Daddy, did you forget?" Calvin asked him.
Ethan furrowed his brow. "Hmm?"
Calvin pouted. "Daddy, you promised me you’d take me to the amusement park today," Calvin said to Ethan.
Calvin had watched something on the video reels when he was once allowed to hold the phone. He saw a Ferris wheel and showed it to Ethan, saying he wanted to see it and ride it. Because Ethan granted Calvin’s every wish, it was like having a genie who fulfilled all his desires.
The only difference was that Ethan granted more than just three wishes as it was unlimited for Calvin. The child was thrilled whenever Ethan indulged him.
