Chapter 126: Chapter 126

Lane paused her bedtime story when she noticed her child’s silence. When she glanced to her side, she couldn’t help but smile to see that he had already fallen asleep.

Lane placed the book on the center table and adjusted her child. She covered him with a blanket and then glanced at the bedside clock to check the time.

Lane got off the bed and left the room. Ethan might be on his way home now. He had called earlier to say he might not make it to dinner because he had something to attend to. It seemed urgent, so she didn’t ask what it was. She told herself she would ask him when he got home about any problem he hadn’t been able to mention over the phone.

Lane went straight to the living room of her condo and sat on the sofa. While waiting for Ethan to arrive, she lowered her gaze to her slender stomach and raised a hand to caress it. It felt as though a warm hand touched her heart at the thought of having a tiny life inside her again.

As the days passed, her belly would grow, and after nine months, she would be able to hold her child.

It was still a long way off, but she already had many plans. Lane knew that Ethan would be with her through everything.

While waiting, she couldn’t help but feel sleepy. She tried to stay awake because she wanted to talk to him, but she couldn’t fight off the drowsiness.

She thought of taking a nap while waiting for Ethan, but she ended up falling into a deep sleep. She awoke feeling as if she were floating. When she opened her eyes, she saw Ethan’s handsome face.

"Ethan?" she said, her voice groggy.

He looked down at her, and his dark eyes immediately met hers. His gaze softened as he looked at her.

"Go back to sleep, love," he said in a gentle voice.

"But we still have to talk," she replied, her voice still sleepy.

"We’ll talk tomorrow, love," he told her.

"But..."

"Look at you. You’re already sleepy. Let’s talk tomorrow, okay?"

Her lips twitched in response to his words, but after a moment, she nodded. If she insisted on talking, she wouldn’t be able to concentrate because she was already exhausted.

She closed her eyes and snuggled into his chest, inhaling his scent. Soon, she felt him lower her onto the soft bed. In her drowsiness, she couldn’t open her eyes, but she felt Ethan cover her with a blanket and kiss her forehead.

"Good night, love. I love you," Ethan said gently.

"I love you," she murmured, her eyes closed as she drifted off to sleep.

When Lane woke up the next morning, she was alone. It seemed her husband and child had woken up earlier. She stayed in bed for a moment before deciding to get up. Before leaving the room, she went to the bathroom to finish her morning routine. Once finished, she went out to find them.

She found them in the kitchen and saw Ethan busy cooking breakfast. Fortunately, she didn’t feel any morning sickness today.

She really wanted to tell Ethan that she was pregnant, but she wanted to have a check-up first to be sure. She trusted the pregnancy test, especially since she had tested herself twice and both were positive.

She knew Ethan would be surprised to find out. He had been eager for her to get pregnant.

"Mommy!"

Lane smiled when Calvin called out to her. She saw Ethan look over as well. When Calvin came closer, she opened her arms to embrace him.

"Mommy," he said as he hugged her. "Good morning."

"Good morning," she replied to her child.

She looked up as Ethan approached.

"Good morning, love," he said. She closed her eyes as he kissed her on the forehead.

"Good morning," she replied. She looked down at the pink apron he was wearing and couldn’t help but smile. "Pink suits you, Ethan."

"Do I look silly in this?" he asked.

"Of course not," she quickly replied. She stood on tiptoe to whisper in his ear. She felt him gently hold her waist.

"You look so handsome... and hot, love," she whispered. As she started to pull away, she felt his grip on her waist tighten, pulling her closer. He brought his mouth to her ear to whisper back.

"Just wait, love. I’ll show you how hot I am," he whispered sexily.

She blushed and felt a surge of excitement.

.....

"Ethan."

Ethan looked up at the sound of his name.

"Yes?" he asked as their eyes met.

Without answering, she gestured for him to come closer. He frowned for a moment but then approached her.

"Why?" Ethan asked when he was finally close. She gently took his hand. Then she glanced at Calvin, who was busy with his coloring book in the living room.

"Calvin, son," she called for his attention.

"Daddy and I are just going to talk in the room," she told him.

"Okay, Mommy," he replied. She led Ethan to their room, leaving the door ajar so she could still see Calvin.

She led him inside, still holding his hand, and sat him down on the edge of the bed.

"The door, love."

Lane couldn’t help but furrow her brow. "What?"

"The door. Calvin might see us," he replied.

She opened her mouth in surprise as she realized what he meant.

"We’re not going to have sex, Ethan," she told him.

"Oh," he replied. It seemed he had thought she was inviting him to have sex.

"I brought you here because I want to talk to you," she told him. She sat beside him. "What’s the problem?" she asked.

She noticed the serious expression on Ethan’s face. "I just learned the truth," he replied.

She furrowed her brow again. "What do you mean?" she asked. What truth did he discover?

Ethan took a deep breath.

"I mentioned to you that when you left, I was looking for you, right?" Ethan asked.

Lane nodded.

"And I even hired a private investigator just to find you," he added.

"That’s why my private investigator was giving me false reports. It’s because Uncle Lucas intervened."

Her eyebrows knitted together as she listened. "Because Uncle Lucas paid the private investigator I hired double to give me false results, so I couldn’t see or find you."

Lane couldn’t help but open her mouth in surprise. When she recovered from the shock, she clenched her fists.

She wouldn’t be surprised if Uncle Lucas did that. Ever since she got pregnant by Ethan and married him, they were extremely angry with her.

They called her derogatory names and almost physically hurt her whenever they met. They wanted her to leave Ethan back then so he could marry Olivia and the two could get back together.

That was likely why Uncle Lucas bribed the investigator: to ensure he couldn’t find her and so Olivia could have a chance to bring Ethan back into her life.

Lane was reminded of the photos Uncle Lucas had sent her. Photos of Ethan, Olivia, and Tyler together. He sent those to hurt her, to make her think Ethan and Olivia were back together, so she wouldn’t think of coming back.

"Uncle Lucas did all that just so I couldn’t find you, just so we’d never get back together. He was hoping I’d go back and marry his daughter," Ethan added.

"That’s why he sent me those pictures before," she told him.

She noticed Ethan furrow his brow. "What picture?"

Instead of answering, she picked up her phone from the bed. She opened her messages and searched for the picture of the three that Uncle Lucas had sent her.

"Here," she said as she handed him the phone.

Ethan took it and looked at it. She noticed his grip tighten. Not only that, she also felt his jaw clench.

"Damn. He really wants to tear us apart," Ethan said firmly.

"I’ll make him pay for everything he’s done."

Ethan’s voice was filled with anger. At that moment, she knew he wasn’t just bluffing. She knew he would really do it.

"And there’s something else I found out, Lane," he said after a while.

"What?" she asked.

"It’s about Tyler."

"What about him?"

Ethan didn’t speak for a moment, then opened his mouth.

"Tyler is not my son, Lane," Ethan told her.

Her eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean? Tyler isn’t your son?"

He nodded. "When Tyler was one, I began to doubt if he was my son. So I secretly had a DNA test done by my private investigator. The results were positive. Tyler is my son," Ethan

explained.

She was shocked.

She never imagined he would test Tyler’s DNA.

If the DNA test was positive, why was he saying Tyler wasn’t his son? She was honestly confused.

"And when I found out that Uncle Lucas and my PI were in cahoots, I secretly repeated the DNA test with Tyler. The new results came out earlier. They were negative. Tyler isn’t my son," Ethan told her.

"Uncle Lucas and Olivia have been deceiving us all along."

Lane clenched her fists in anger toward Uncle Lucas and Olivia, especially toward Olivia for the deceit she had committed. Did Uncle Lucas and Olivia really think they would succeed in all their evil schemes? Didn’t they realize evil never triumphs over good?

And did Olivia think she could get away with what she did? No way.

If she didn’t fight back before, now she would. She wouldn’t stay silent any longer.
