Veylara nodded, a faint, confident smile touching her lips. "They won’t fight when they see our banners." She paused, looking at his tired face, her tone softening slightly. "Once we reach the settlement, you will stay behind and rest, Sol. You have bled more than enough for our people today. WE will handle the expansion."
Sol let out a quiet, raspy chuckle, though his expression grew firm as he shook his head.
"No," Sol said calmly, resting his hand on the hilt of his Dreadwing blade. "I’m coming with you."
Veylara frowned subtly, stepping forward. "There’s no need, Sol. Your presence alone has already won this war. You need to recover your strength—"
"I insist," Sol interrupted, his neon-crimson eyes glinting with an unyielding, quiet resolve that left no room for argument. "I want to see a proper end to this war myself... and besides, I have my own reasons. I personally want to confirm something in those territories."
Veylara stared into his eyes for a long moment, searching his calm face. Seeing the absolute determination in his posture, she let out a soft, resigned breath and exchanged a brief glance with Zephyra, who gave a subtle, approving nod.
"Very well," Veylara agreed, a look of profound respect deepening in her gaze. "If you insist on riding with us, then we will be honored to have our champion by our side when we take the north."
"I’ll hold you to that rest, Warchief," Sol said, turning toward the tent exit."I plan to sleep soundly until dawn."
"Go," Veylara nodded gently. "We all need our rest for tomorrow’s march."
Leaving the command tent, Sol walked out into the cool night air. The entire encampment was settling down; guards were posted along the perimeter, but most of the weary Veynar warriors were already curling up around the dying embers of the campfires.
Kira and Zeyra walked beside him, guiding him toward a large, secluded tent prepared specifically for them away from the noise of the main camp. Inside, thick fur blankets and soft pelts were laid out over a comfortable wooden platform, smelling faintly of dried lavender and mountain herbs.
Sol unbuckled the heavy Dreadwing blade, leaning it against the wooden tent pole beside his dented black armor, and collapsed onto the soft furs.
The moment his body hit the makeshift bed, the lingering weariness of Layer 3 Peak strain pulled at his consciousness like a heavy anchor.
Without any hesitation, Kira and Zeyra stepped inside behind him. The fight was over, the night was cold, and neither of them had any intention of sleeping anywhere else after everything they had been through together.
Kira settled in on his left, pulling a heavy bear-fur blanket over both of them and resting her head lightly against Sol’s shoulder. Zeyra unbuckled her twin daggers, laying them within arm’s reach before lying down on his right, pulling her side of the furs up and resting her arm comfortably across his chest.
Sol let out a long, contented breath, wrapping his arms around both of them as the natural warmth of their bodies cut through the mountain chill.
"Goodnight, Sol," Kira whispered softly into the quiet darkness of the tent.
"Get some sleep, monster," Zeyra murmured from his other side, her breathing already slowing into a relaxed rhythm.
"Goodnight," Sol rasped quietly.
Inside his chest hollow, the harvested soul-essence from the day’s bloody slaughter settled into a silent, crystal-clear reservoir, humming with absolute, dormant power.
The war was over for good, the foundation of his power was rock-solid, and as Sol drifted into a deep, dreamless slumber surrounded by the two women who anchored him, the Great Orrath prepared to wake up to a new era under his shadow.
...
When the first pale threads of dawn broke over the eastern horizon, painting the rugged limestone peaks in shades of cold violet and rose, the Veynar encampment was already stirring with quiet motion.
Sol slowly opened his eyes.
For a long moment he simply lay still on the heavy furs, listening to the various ambient noises, especially after yesterday’s shouting and killing, all of this still kinda felt a bit dreamy.
Outside the tent he could hear the soft sounds of a camp waking... low but energetic and hopeful voices, the crackle of freshly built fires, the distant clink as warriors checked their gear.
Though, the air inside the tent still carried the faint scent of dried lavender and warm bodies.
Though he had already noticed the emptiness around him much earlier and knew without looking what was happening, he still couldn’t help look at the spaces on both sides of him, where Kira and Zeyra had slept pressed against him through the night.
The furs were still slightly warm, but the two women were already gone from the bed.
Turning his head, he looked towards their direction, both of them were awake and on their feet near the tent’s entrance.
Kira was carefully tightening the straps of her leather bracers, her movements precise and quiet. Zeyra stood beside her, checking the edge of one of her twin daggers with a critical eye before sliding it back into its sheath.
The soft dawn light filtering through the tent flap caught the focused lines of their faces and the faint shadows of residual exhaustion that still lingered beneath their eyes.
Zeyra noticed him first. A subtle, warm smirk touched her lips.
"Morning, sleepyhead," she murmured, tossing his tunic across the short distance so that it landed neatly on his chest.
Kira looked over as well, her expression softer. "Good morning, Sol."
"Morning," Sol replied, his voice still rough and raspy from sleep.
He sat up slowly, the heavy furs sliding down to his waist.
Rolling his shoulders, he felt the deep, resonant pulse of his Layer 3 Peak core thrumming steadily beneath his skin.
The crushing weariness of the previous night had completely vanished. His body felt clean, strong, and fully restored... as if the brutal war of the day before had been nothing more than a distant memory.
