The first public file that mentioned Kieran used the wrong one.

KIERAN STAHL LINKED TO HUNTER INCIDENT.

Jade saw the line on the shelter tablet and stood so fast the chair scraped back.

Mason stirred under the coat.

She stopped before the chair finished rocking.

That stop carried more force than the scrape. Waddell killed the preview and angled the tablet away from the cot while Kieran the Hunter lowered one hand near the floor, not touching Mason and not crowding Jade. Her gold fire thinned until it was only warmth along the tile.

"They used his name," Jade said.

"Only text," Waddell answered. "He cannot see it."

"Take it off the tablet."

He did. JJ copied the error into the filing room before the screen cleared.

"We need the error," JJ said, holding up one hand before Jade could turn on her. "Mason is out. The file stays in here."

The Name Office accepted the difference.

CHILD EXPOSURE BLOCKED.

ERROR PRESERVED.

Zunoder sat at the body table with one hand near his public stack. "Public confusion is natural. The name Stahl is already in the record."

Kieran looked at him over the low fire. "Natural does not mean clean."

The file tried to grow around her.

KIERAN STAHL.

KIERAN THE HUNTER.

STAHLS SHELTER INCIDENT.

HUNTER FIRE EVENT.

MERCY CHILD PROTECTION CLIP.

The lines tangled until Mason's name began to form between them. Jade put her hand over the tablet screen even though Waddell had already cut the preview. The cached image tried to load under her palm. Shelter lights flickered once.

Waddell killed the image before it found a face. "Blocked."

"Keep blocking."

Mason shifted in his sleep and hugged the dinosaur tighter. No one spoke until his breathing settled back into the slow, stubborn rhythm of a child refusing to wake for adults who had already asked enough.

JJ recorded the pause in the filing room because the room would not understand it unless someone forced the point.

SHELTER PAUSE:

CHILD PROTECTION BEFORE EVIDENCE.

The filing room marked the entry low weight. JJ accepted the mark and placed it under cost anyway. Low did not mean empty. They had learned that much.

Zunoder tilted his head toward the shelter feed. "Guardian is not legal record."

Waddell leaned toward the screen. "Try that sentence in the shelter."

Jade said his name once, and he sat back with his jaw tight and his hands visible while Kieran stepped forward.

"File correction," she said, and Erebos answered through the public drawer.

CORRECTION SOURCE:

KIERAN THE HUNTER.

IDENTITY STATUS COMPLICATED.

"Use complicated if you need to. Use separate if you want to be accurate."

The word separate cost more than her voice showed. It placed distance between her and the child she had helped keep warm. It gave the room a clean edge to cut with later. It also kept Mason from becoming proof someone could pass between hands.

Kieran kept her palm near the floor heat and let the distance stay visible.

Heissman spoke quietly from beside JJ's ledger. "Separate people can share linked records without merging."

Kieran's eyes moved to him. "That sounded almost like a cabinet."

"Separate people can be dragged through the same mess," he corrected.

"Better."

JJ entered the correction in plain terms.

KIERAN THE HUNTER:

NOT KIERAN STAHL.

NOT MASON STAHL.

NOT TY HOCKENSON BODY HOLDER.

The public drawer resisted the last line. Zunoder smiled without warmth.

"The body holder is relevant to me, not her."

"That is why it goes in," JJ said.

Kieran's fire flickered once, then steadied. "Add that I am not a child's shadow, and he is not my echo."

Jade's hand eased against the tablet.

The line entered under volunteered testimony instead of public spectacle.

KIERAN THE HUNTER REFUSES CHILD MERGER.

The public file reached for another hook.

HUNTER DESTROYS WORLDS.

Ty turned toward Kieran. So did half the room.

Her face did not change much, but the fire nearest Mason pulled inward. The cot lost a little warmth. Mason made a sleeping sound, small and displeased, and Kieran restored the heat before Jade had to ask.

"Careful file," Ty said.

Kieran nodded. "I have done harm. I have followed systems that cleaned their hands after using mine. But I did not destroy Alexira. I did not release the Angelic Race X virus. Do not put a world's reset under my name because the public likes short knives."

The filing room went still around the old-world words.

JJ looked at Ty.

Ty shook his head once. "Record only the correction. No full trial on Alexira here."

Omina agreed at once. "Scope limited."

Zunoder folded his hands. "Convenient. Your side limits every witness when the facts grow uncomfortable."

Kieran faced him. "No. We limit files before they eat children."

That landed better than a flare of fire would have. The filing room placed the line beside Jade's boundary statement.

WITNESS PROTECTION VALUE HIGH.

"Protection has become your favorite excuse," Zunoder said.

Jade answered from the shelter. "Protection is what you keep dressing up as ownership."

The body table shook. Ty felt the old body file flare under Zunoder's hand, the first honest sign that Jade's answer had cut.

Erebos opened a thin black folder beside the public drawer. It made four labels first.

KIERAN THE HUNTER.

KIERAN STAHL.

MASON STAHL.

TY HOCKENSON BODY HOLDER.

Then it added a fifth.

BONE HALF.

Kieran looked at the fifth label. "You see the trick."

Ty nodded. "It gives everyone else separation, then asks me to earn mine."

"Then earn it without borrowing ours."

Jade looked at Kieran for the first time since the file opened. It was not gratitude exactly. It was a boundary offered back.

Kieran accepted it with a small tilt of her head and stepped farther from Mason's cot.

The fire stayed.

She moved without taking the warmth away.

DISTANCE WITHOUT ABANDONMENT.

PROTECTIVE QUALITY PARTIAL.

The fifth label stayed lighter than the rest.

BONE HALF:

TEMPORARY DESIGNATION.

DISTINCTION UNRESOLVED.

The room could separate Kieran from Mason. It had not agreed to separate Ty from the body yet.

The black folder opened on a final demand.

PROVE DISTINCTION WITHOUT CHILD TESTIMONY.

Kieran read it, then looked at Jade. "I can stand outside the shelter feed."

Jade answered fast, setting each limit before the room could write its own. No public fire. No old-world trial. No Mason.

Kieran looked once toward the cot and back. "Agreed. I stand for my name, not his."

The limits went into the record, grudging but usable. The next distinction would have to come from an adult who could pay for her own name without handing the room a sleeping child.
