From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 807 - 807: Heissman Finds His Lesson PlanThe date inside the fold became a classroom.
The Name Office made a poor one. Projection light spread across the drawer face in a flat rectangle, pale enough to make the burned strip look dirtier around it. A title appeared first. Heissman's hand tightened around the half-used page before anyone asked him anything.
Unclaimed response asset routing.
The words sat where a lesson title should have been.
JJ saw his hand.
"Tell me whether this one has your fingerprints."
Heissman looked at the title too long.
"Adjacent fingerprints, which may be worse for everyone."
"Adjacent is a word people use before lawyers arrive."
"I taught a later version after Mercy disappeared."
The admission took some of the heat out of the room and put it into his face. He rubbed his thumb against the burned strip until ash marked his skin.
"The later version removed the hospital label and called the same problem civil response allocation."
Omina recorded the admission. The drawer tried to turn removed into updated.
Heissman shook his head before the correction finished forming.
"Updated is the polite lie. The word is removed."
For once, the office accepted the uglier correction from him. The training link entered as a later model with similar design and a different Mercy file.
The correction held, but thinly.
The slide changed into a diagram with five boxes joined by straight arrows, moving from call source to available body, then response condition, staff absence, and outcome capture.
Ty saw available body and felt his hand lift from his side. Yun-Jin let him stop himself, which made the restraint heavier than if she had grabbed him.
Zunoder's attention settled on the same box.
"That is available body in office clothes again."
Heissman answered without protecting himself from the answer.
"Asset language, and I taught from it later."
JJ made a sound low in her throat.
"Every yes from you should arrive with a receipt."
Heissman looked at the ash on his thumb.
"The receipt is already burning in my hand."
The drawer marked his reduced authority and opened expert memory access. Heissman's face changed. Not fear. Recognition.
Omina stepped between him and the projection.
"Name your scope before the room names it for you."
The office advanced the slide anyway.
A younger Heissman appeared at a podium. His hair was darker, his cuffs cleaner, his voice flattened by the recording. Ty watched the younger man gesture across the diagram as if the boxes were clean enough to touch.
"A response asset need not possess lawful claim if institutional necessity establishes temporary function."
JJ looked sick. Ty looked at Heissman instead of the recording. The older man kept his eyes on himself.
Omina's hilt crossed the bottom of the projection.
"We stop the recording if it starts spending you."
Heissman lifted one hand.
"Let the recording stand long enough to identify the words."
"It will spend you if I let it."
"It already spent me before I knew where."
He looked at Ty then, not at the old body and not at Zunoder.
"I need to know which words I gave it."
Ty disliked the honesty because it had no clean use. Heissman deserved blame. He also stood there while his own voice cut him open in front of the room. The two facts refused to cancel each other out.
Erebos entered the cost as limited memory entry with personal credibility further degraded. JJ read it and tapped her ledger with the pencil once.
"We are all feeding the shredder with labeled parts."
Heissman's page bent in his hand. The man had spent too long translating ugly systems as if translation kept him outside them. This record took that distance away. Every term sounded like a tool he had left on a table for someone worse to pick up.
The recording resumed. Younger Heissman pointed to the last box on the diagram.
"Best practice requires outcome capture. A patient saved by the asset belongs in the institution's record. Failure remains attached to absence rather than authorization."
The drawer clicked twice under the projection.
Ty understood why. The model kept the rescue and dodged the consent. Success became proof the design worked. Failure went back into the empty chair where staff should have been.
He thought about how many rooms loved outcomes because outcomes came with faces. A living patient could be pointed at. A missing refusal stayed blank. A person could object only after the file had already used the rescue to make the objection look cruel.
Zunoder turned to Omina.
"That gives purpose assignment by design and outcome."
Omina corrected the line before it settled.
"It gives purpose exploitation by design and outcome."
"It remains design, and design matters for purpose."
Omina let that much stand. The yes did damage because it was true.
JJ slapped the ledger shut.
"I am going to start charging rent for that word."
Heissman watched his younger self smile at a question the hallway kept out of range. The smile made him look ill.
"I remember the student question that came next."
Omina waited.
"The student asked whether the asset could refuse."
Ty's feet went cold.
The younger Heissman answered from the projection.
"Refusal is outside the model. The model activates after response."
JJ's mouth tightened.
"You absolute office chair with a pension plan."
Heissman flinched. He deserved worse. Ty knew that and still saw the older man standing there while the sentence cut him away from any easy defense.
Omina wrote one careful line tying refusal exclusion to retroactive justification from response.
The drawer resisted retroactive until Omina pressed her hilt across the word.
Zunoder objected with both hands visible.
"The model may exclude refusal because life-saving action changes the question."
Ty looked at him.
"That is convenient for everyone except the body."
"For saved patients, yes, and that matters here."
Mr. Hollis was alive. The fact stood in the room without a safe place to sit.
Ty thought of Hollis breathing. Hating that would have made him smaller than the file expected. That was the trap. Life made the paperwork harder to burn.
Heissman spoke before Zunoder could use it further.
"That is why the design survived. It attached itself to outcomes no decent person wanted undone."
The projection stuttered. Younger Heissman turned toward the edge of the classroom, toward someone the drawer kept outside the frame. A student question appeared as text asking what happened if the body had a name.
The recording answered in Heissman's old teaching voice.
"Institutional function may supersede informal designation during emergency routing."
Bone Half's weak name strip dimmed. Ty's hand moved before he gave it permission, then stopped against his side. The strip was only light on a drawer until it weakened. Then it felt like watching someone pull a blanket off a sleeping child.
Yun-Jin shifted near his shoulder. She gave him room to stay still, and that room cost more than another grip would have.
JJ leaned closer to the projection.
"You taught them how to step over a name."
Heissman looked at the floor.
"I taught them how to avoid delay by stepping over it."
"Same hallway with a cleaner sign on the door."
He took that without defense.
Omina entered the result as old design discounting informal name.
Zunoder answered too quickly.
"Emergency function must discount names that slow response."
Jade's caption came from the shelter before Omina could respond. It asked who got to call a name informal.
The question entered the drawer. The weak name strip steadied by a thin shade. Ty saw it and kept his feet still.
Erebos entered the ruling without dressing it up. Outcome capture strengthened utility purpose while refusal exclusion strengthened coercion challenge, and the informal-name dispute stayed preserved.
The recording ended. The slide broke back into ash-colored text. Lower signer one had an office title confirmed, but the hand stayed sealed.
JJ leaned over the drawer.
"Why keep the hand sealed after showing the lesson?"
The answer appeared under the title. The hand was sealed by authority code.
Heissman looked older than he had when the projection began.
"The lower signer received protection from above the office."
Zunoder's eyes sharpened.
"Or the lower signer received authorization from above."
Omina wrote both possibilities and circled neither.
Ty stared at the blank signature line and understood the old design had predicted his usefulness while missing his no.
The drawer opened another tab beneath the classroom record. In the blank where refusal should have been, it reported none found.
