From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 814 - 814: The Authority Code Has A VoiceTy knew the consent seal was trouble before the drawer finished opening it.
The paper came up black, smoother than the Hamberton sheets and harder to read from straight on. Omina angled her hilt so the overhead light struck the surface from the side. Pale letters showed where the ink had refused to cover.
Ty stayed behind the boot mark.
That took effort.
The first line named the condition at the time of purpose assignment. Deceased. Unclaimed. Unconsulted.
The last word stayed in his head after the rest settled into office language. Dead was a state. Unclaimed was a failure wearing a clerk's coat. Unconsulted meant somebody had skipped a person, or skipped the work of finding one, and then let the file call the absence clean.
Zunoder read the same line with his hands folded.
"Deceased subjects cannot be consulted after the death marker."
Yun-Jin stood close enough to the drawer for the black surface to reflect along her sleeve.
"Then the file has no consent from the subject."
"Emergency authority can treat consent as unavailable during routing."
JJ lifted her ledger before Omina stopped her with two fingers. JJ lowered it, but the movement left a mark in the air anyway. She wanted to cut the sentence apart before it learned to stand.
Yun-Jin kept her attention on Zunoder.
"Irrelevant to whose hands in this room, Zunoder?"
Heissman answered from the rear table. His voice came flat, and that made it worse.
"To the office, if the design reads that way."
The drawer accepted the office as the answer. It recorded consent as irrelevant to the office under EA-0.
JJ leaned forward, jaw tight.
"That sentence is not what Heissman said aloud."
Heissman looked at the black page like it had taken something from his mouth and returned it sharpened.
"It is what the file can use against us."
The authority code appeared beneath the consent line. EA-0. A voice record sat behind it, available on request.
Ty looked for a face by habit. There was none. The name Erebos remained inside the code, old enough to feel above apology and clean enough to make apology useless.
Omina took the room before anyone else could give the file a wider door.
"Scope before voice, and keep the scope narrow."
She held the hilt over the page.
"Authority code meaning only. No identity merger, no signer chain, no subject ownership."
The drawer accepted the limit.
JJ rubbed the edge of her ledger with her thumb.
"I am already poor in patience today, dead signature."
Omina kept the blade point steady.
"The voice gets only the code and nothing else."
The record opened without a speaker. Words formed in the page in time with pressure at the base of Ty's skull. It lacked sound, which made it harder to argue with. Sound had a throat. This had procedure.
EA-0 authorized deferral, assignment, and emergency routing where ordinary consent channels were unavailable. Purpose assignment could proceed when response utility served urgent preservation.
Zunoder's shoulders eased.
"There is the office authority you keep avoiding."
Omina wrote the useful part into the active record. EA-0 authorized routing when consent channels were unavailable. It allowed purpose assignment for urgent preservation.
She left the rest alone.
Yun-Jin shifted one step closer, and Ty watched her shoes instead of the words.
"The question is why the channel was unavailable."
The black page held its place.
Yun-Jin gave the file both roads and made it choose.
"Because the subject was dead, or because someone deferred contact first?"
The drawer held the page long enough for everyone to notice. In that room, even a brief delay cost more than long speeches.
Zunoder moved into it.
"Both answers can sit in the same file."
Omina marked the page before his tone could make the answer sound helpful.
"Enter both answers separately, under the consent channel."
The sheet divided the reason in two. Subject condition carried one line. Authority deferral carried the other.
Ty felt the second entry arrive under the first. Death had weight, but deferral gave him hands to picture. Somebody had touched the process, made distance, and then let that distance become proof that nobody answered.
Along the side lane, Bone Half's weak name strip dimmed.
Ty moved before he decided to move. One boot crossed the edge of the old mark, chasing the fading strip by instinct rather than thought.
Yun-Jin saw it and let him feel the mistake.
Omina gave him the limit before the drawer could take more.
"Ty, stay behind the boot mark right now, please."
He pulled back. The drawer had already noticed. It recorded that the subject's proximity had increased.
Zunoder's mouth changed by a fraction. Not a smile. Something smaller and more careful, which made Ty want to hit it more.
"He comes when the file hurts his people."
Ty closed both hands. The anger wanted a clean room. This place offered only ledgers, categories, and people pretending those could keep blood off their sleeves.
JJ tucked her marked wrist against her ribs. The old penalty mark had brightened when the voice opened.
"Authority is too broad to identify the hand."
The drawer sealed the next request before Omina finished reaching for it.
"The lower hand remains sealed until someone pays."
Omina looked toward the shelter feed.
"Then take the cost from outside this room."
Caelin's office entered through a side channel before the file could pretend the option had no owner. His face appeared in a small square, tie loose, eyes overbright from screens and bad coffee. Behind him, an aide stood with a headset pressed to one ear.
The cost came through in office language first. Public notice. Authority code under review. No identity conclusion. No private collection. No public search. Official credibility reduced if the review failed. Public trust volatility increased.
Jade's tablet sent one line from the shelter.
Define cost in people.
Caelin read the route twice. The aide behind him shook her head before she remembered the feed could see her.
"My office can carry the public notice cost."
Jade looked at him through the tablet. The shelter lights made the bruise near her eye look older than it was.
"Your office wanted the clean clip this morning."
Caelin took that where it landed.
"My office is learning shame in installments, apparently."
Waddell leaned into view from the shelter side, one hand still on another keyboard.
"Add no private searches, because they already started search jars."
Caelin glanced away from the camera.
"Search jars are donation jars with cleaner shoes."
The aide beside him found her voice.
"If we post this, public lines go to overflow."
Caelin kept his eyes on the black page.
"Then four people will tell strangers no today."
The aide waited for a softer version. It never arrived. She swallowed, reached for another screen, and started building the overflow tag by hand.
Jade watched that too. Ty could tell by the stillness in her shoulders. Caelin was spending more than pride. He was spending four people on public anger, four voices answering strangers who would claim concern while hunting for a dead man's name.
Waddell added one more limit.
"No nickname enters the public warning or the record."
Caelin nodded and repeated it for his aide.
"No nickname enters the public warning or the record."
The drawer entered office labor strain, public search limits, and no private collection. It accepted the notice cost through Caelin's office.
Zunoder objected at once.
"Public office interference should invalidate this disclosure request."
Omina wrote over the shape of that sentence before it could harden.
"Public office cost is the disclosure requirement here."
The drawer held both arguments on the surface. Ty saw the page consider them like a mouth deciding what it could swallow.
Omina's version stayed.
The pressure at the base of Ty's skull stopped. He touched the spot with two fingers and found no burn, no cut, nothing useful. The old authority could reach him and leave no bruise behind, which bothered him more than pain would have.
Pain at least gave the body somewhere to put blame. Ty wanted a mark he could show somebody; the place under his fingers stayed plain skin.
Another fold turned from the sheet, leaving the authority code at the top. Beneath it, a smaller title appeared.
Night routing supervisor.
The name remained sealed.
That made the title uglier, not cleaner. Ancient authority had narrowed into a job someone could clock into. A night desk. A routing board. A person close enough to move a dead body through a process and far enough from the room to hide behind initials, shift rules, and the code above them.
Ty looked at Bone Half's name strip. It had stopped dimming, but it had not recovered either.
Omina read the title once, then turned her attention to the shelter feed.
"The notice posts before the name can open."
Caelin's aide was already typing. Waddell was already copying false search links into evidence. Jade had turned away from the tablet toward the shelter floor, where people still needed food, limits, and someone willing to say no before the public learned another way to make the dead useful.
Ty stayed where Omina had put him.
The title waited on the black page.
Public notice had to post before the name opened.
