From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 815 - 815: Lower Hold Cart SixThe cart tag carried the idea of old cleaner.
Ty knew that made no sense. The Name Office had shaped the tag from memory, paper, and whatever else the drawer used when it wanted the past to feel touchable. It should have smelled like nothing. His mind supplied sharp soap anyway, then wet rubber, then metal left too long under hospital lights.
He looked at the torn corner and kept his feet behind the boot mark.
Omina noticed and gave him the mercy of leaving it unpraised.
The tag named Lower Hold Cart 6. Pediatric overflow. Temporary transfer. Keep away from the main hall.
JJ squinted at the last instruction.
"That line has guilt wearing a pressed shirt."
Zunoder answered with the care of a man choosing a smaller word for a larger wound.
"The instruction protects patient privacy during movement only."
"Privacy can carry guilt when it gets dressed properly."
Omina circled temporary transfer with the end of her hilt.
"Temporary transfer requires a destination before it matters."
The tag dragged across the drawer as if pulled by a handle. A thin route appeared behind it, drawn in clipped floor-plan lines. Pediatric overflow to service corridor. Service corridor down to lower hold. Lower hold back toward the emergency response ward. Morgue transfer sat below the path, crossed out once in blue.
The route looked too neat for the work it described.
Ty felt the labor under it anyway. A cart that would pull toward the bad wheel. A corridor too narrow for two tired people. Doors opened with hips because both hands were already on the rail. Every turn had a body cost the map left out.
Yun-Jin leaned closer.
"Was the blue crossout made by route logic or by a person?"
The tag rotated. The blue line thickened at one end where a pen had pressed too hard.
Omina read the mark first.
"Personal marking questioned the morgue transfer path first."
Zunoder corrected her at once.
"Personal marking altered the morgue transfer path afterward."
"Questioned is the part that gives the hand weight."
The tag accepted neither wording fully. It opened the cart memory instead.
A handle appeared over the drawer, made from gray lines and the shape of touch. Ty saw the rubbed places first. Left side worn smooth. Right side sticky where tape had once wrapped the grip.
Anika spoke from the shelter kitchen before anyone asked her.
"That cart moved food before someone used it wrong."
Waddell turned toward her.
"What tells you that from the handle alone?"
"Tape on one side where the rubber split first."
She moved her own hand in the air, gripping an invisible rail.
"Food carts get patched like that when nobody has replacements."
Heissman looked at the cart outline with the sick recognition of someone remembering an institutional habit from the inside.
"Lower hold borrowed service carts during overflow regularly."
JJ looked over her ledger.
"Use the honest verb before the drawer sanitizes it."
Heissman accepted the correction.
"Lower hold stole service carts when overflow ran short."
The drawer entered the practical result. A service cart had been used for body transfer.
Ty moved only one hand. One finger flexed toward the gray handle before he caught it and pressed the hand against his side. The cart had moved someone called deceased. It had moved someone called available.
Zunoder saw the finger.
"That reaction supports recognition through handling memory for the route."
Omina cut him off before the drawer could take the word.
"Physical reaction to body handling record, with recognition reserved."
The drawer split the weight and reserved it for later.
Ty hated reserved. It meant the room had found pain and put a tag on it for future use.
The cart tag flipped. A pencil note on the back had been rubbed nearly flat.
N. Vale. Hold until charge calls back.
JJ read it aloud in one piece, slower than her usual speed.
"N. Vale wrote hold until charge calls back."
The scratched badge warmed on the drawer.
Night orderly name partial. N. Vale.
Yun-Jin looked at Heissman.
"Charge means charge nurse, separate from D. Creel."
Heissman nodded.
"Charge nurse held floor authority over movement at night."
Zunoder stepped in, smooth again.
"A hold request remains internal routing rather than consent."
Omina answered without giving him the center.
"A hold request creates interruption before consent matters."
The drawer resisted that word. The cart handle jerked forward, and Ty heard wheels.
The sound was low. One wheel clicked because something had flattened it. The sound moved across the office floor and stopped near the boot mark. A gray cart outline formed around the handle, but no body appeared on it.
The absence was worse. The file wanted the cart without showing what it carried.
Omina pointed to the blank space.
"The load record has to exist before transfer proves anything."
The drawer sealed the load under subject condition.
Zunoder spread both hands.
"The subject condition was already marked deceased before transfer."
Yun-Jin kept her eyes on the blank cart.
"The file knows what it carried and hides the load anyway."
The drawer marked the load identity as disputed.
Bone Half's weak strip steadied by a breath. Small. Useful.
Then the tag added the line Zunoder wanted. Cart movement confirmed physical transfer after D. Creel's signature.
Zunoder let the file do the gloating for him.
Omina entered the shape without softening it. The record could keep physical transfer, but the purpose stayed disputed and the orderly hold note stayed visible beside it.
The blue crossout brightened. N. Vale had crossed out morgue transfer, or tried to. The route had still gone to the emergency response ward.
JJ tapped the pencil beside the note.
"What answer came back from the charge nurse?"
The drawer opened the call record and left the answer field blank.
Heissman closed his hand.
"Missing records always arrive wearing convenience in old files."
The drawer defended the route. Missing record left the transfer valid.
Omina wrote the correction under it.
"Missing record prevents the route from reading clean."
The correction entered with low weight. Low was better than absent.
Jade watched the cart handle from the shelter feed.
"Can N. Vale be searched by the public now?"
Waddell answered before the office could.
"No public search gets treated as witness access."
Caelin's office channel opened with three alerts stacked over one another. Public claims were active, searches for N. Vale and Mercy were rising, and director thread control was still lost.
Caelin came on screen without a tie. The calls had locked his jaw. Behind him, Merrow had one headset on and another waiting around her neck. The office queue climbed in red numbers while someone off camera argued with a caller who kept insisting research counted as help.
"The partial name is already leaking through inference."
Jade's face went flat.
"Shut the field before they build a person."
"Director channel owns the top thread right now."
Waddell leaned closer to his screen.
"Then poison the search with safety language before it feeds."
Caelin looked at him.
"How ugly do you want the wording to be?"
"Ugly enough to bore people looking for ownership."
Caelin kept his hands off the keyboard for one breath. The warning would become another bill for staff time as soon as it posted. Every stranger who wanted to feel useful would call the office and explain why their search was different from hunting.
The cart tag listened and charged the next step. Public search pressure had reached the night orderly. Witness safety cost would be required before the full name opened.
JJ leaned back.
"Of course the next door charges basic decency."
Ty looked at N. Vale's pencil note. Hold until charge calls back. The words sat between rescue and refusal, too practical to bless and too careful to throw away. A hand on a moving cart had slowed the route because something about it sat wrong.
The cart handle turned, and the bad wheel clicked across the map. This time Ty heard the pause inside the sound. Whoever pushed that cart had adjusted to the damaged wheel every few steps, with shoulders and wrists learning the pull. Route language erased that kind of adjustment.
Omina must have seen something in his face because she added another note.
Physical transfer required physical labor.
The drawer allowed it, then tried to bury the line under transfer confirmed.
JJ put her pencil across the words.
"Labor stays visible because someone paid it here."
A second tag slid from beneath the first.
The torn corner kept pointing toward Ty like a missing answer.
The charge call request had been sent at 23:10.
No answer recorded.
