From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 825 - 825: The Caller Needs A LimitThe call record opened without audio.
That spared the room one kind of damage and gave it another. A sound could make people rush. A blank place made them imagine too much.
Ty kept his eyes on the record summary while Jade's shelter feed tightened around the table. Mara had both hands around her cup and had forgotten to drink from it. Rose stood near her side of the tape, close enough to matter and far enough to keep the file from naming it as support before anyone asked.
Omina read the first line before the drawer could make a performance of it. Caller identity was partial.
"Keep the caller partial before the room names them."
The drawer answered with the cost. Partial identity reduced response-claim weight.
Zunoder took the opening at once.
"The response claim loses weight with every seal."
JJ leaned on the back of her chair.
"You can turn a help call into furniture before lunch."
"I turn it into admissible evidence or leave it out."
"You make it convenient and call the shape clean."
Omina kept the argument from taking the room.
"Relation categories only, with no name or audio."
The permitted shape came in three categories, care relation, staff relation, and route relation.
Ty read them more than once. Care, staff, route. Three ways to turn one caller into three different weapons. Care could become family. Staff could become negligence. Route could become proof that the system had known where to send him and had still chosen the wrong kind of mercy.
Each category had teeth. Care could make strangers hunt for a grieving person. Staff could turn an old worker into the villain of a file they barely touched. Route could become a clean arrow for Zunoder, pointed straight at purpose. None of those uses needed the caller to be safe.
Jade asked the question that mattered outside the drawer.
"Can we tell whether the caller stayed safe afterward?"
The drawer searched. It took longer than Ty liked.
After the response hold, an unlisted care line had connected to pediatric overflow.
Mara's fingers moved against her cup. Ty saw it because he had started watching hands more than faces. Faces could be trained, while hands remembered faster.
Rose noticed too. She moved one step closer to the tape and stopped there, close enough for Mara to see her without giving the drawer a new support claim to chew. Mara's thumb rubbed the cup rim twice. The motion said more than her face would have. It kept the caller from becoming another neat category.
Caelin's aide read from his own screen.
"Pediatric overflow means medical or shelter-adjacent routing somewhere."
Heissman leaned closer.
"Or the call was redirected there after pressure."
The drawer accepted both possibilities.
Yun-Jin looked at Ty before she spoke.
"Opening identity could drag a living person into consent they never gave."
That was the part Ty had been trying to keep behind his teeth. The caller's name was extra. A relation category already gave strangers a starting point for the person who had cared, worked, or routed at the wrong hour.
Zunoder's tone stayed mild.
"The caller may be the strongest response witness."
Ty kept looking at the partial field.
"The caller may be a person first before that."
The drawer marked his answer, then waited for him to pay for it. It always waited better than people did.
Omina gave him the shape before the file could offer a sweeter one. He could accept reduced claim weight to keep the caller partial. He could open more metadata. He could request audio through Lost Property, which already risked the sealed item.
Ty wanted the first answer because it sounded clean enough to say. That made him suspicious of it. Clean answers had been trying to buy pieces of him all night.
"What does metadata mean in this route, Omina?"
Omina nodded once, approving the question without softening it. The drawer listed route marks, time windows, and office handoffs. No voice. No caller name. No private number. Enough to show that a call had existed and had been handled badly, not enough to let the public hunt for the mouth that made it.
The metadata still carried danger. A time window could meet a staffing sheet. A handoff could meet an old rumor. Even a route mark could become a map if someone wanted a target badly enough. Ty made himself read the list anyway, because refusing to look at the safer option would only make the dangerous one sound braver.
Caelin's office feed broke in with warning lights.
"Public request volume just moved toward caller lists."
His aide looked worse after the next line.
"Search channels are building lists from old pediatric rosters."
Waddell spoke before the room could turn that into background noise.
"Block roster searches through official channels first, now."
Caelin rubbed the heel of one hand under his eye.
"We can warn, but private searches will keep moving."
Jade answered from the shelter.
"Make the warning uglier than curiosity can survive."
She counted on her fingers while she spoke. No volunteer lists. No staff lists. No family guesses. Anyone posting a suspected caller would be treated as interference.
Caelin looked tired enough to agree before the drawer could make him sound noble.
"I will sign the warning and take the calls."
The office cost came as phone lines, staff hours, public anger, and credibility loss if the caller later proved to be someone the crowd wanted punished.
Caelin read the cost once.
"Accepted, with the ugly wording left in for once."
Ty watched that too. Caelin had become useful in a way that cost him something visible, which was better than another clean office promise.
Omina returned to Ty.
"Choose the caller limit before the record chooses one."
The caller record waited in its partial shape.
Ty looked at the three relation categories again. Care. Staff. Route. None of them were names. All of them could become a name in the wrong mouth.
"Keep identity partial and use metadata only for this."
The drawer entered the cost. Ty accepted reduced response-claim weight to protect caller identity.
The words landed like a small loss. They kept landing that way, every time he chose protection over weight. He was learning the shape of that bargain too well. A clean proof could win a point and destroy a person in the same motion. He wanted to stop wanting clean proof.
He also knew Zunoder would keep every reduced-weight line and stack them later. One by one, each protection choice could become a pattern against him. Ty let that be true. If the only way to win was to make every witness easier to hunt, the win would belong to the file before it belonged to him.
Zunoder stepped closer to the line.
"Then the record should show he weakened his own defense."
JJ turned toward Ty before he could answer.
"Let him do his own dirty phrasing alone."
Ty shook his head once.
"He would make it uglier and cleaner somehow."
Omina wrote over the drawer's summary before it could settle. Ty had accepted weaker proof rather than converting the caller into a public target.
The drawer gave the correction more weight than Ty expected. The public warning from Caelin's office linked to it. So did Jade's shelter rule, Waddell's interference note, and Yun-Jin's risk statement about living routes.
Zunoder saw the links and moved to the next pressure point.
"Partial caller means procedural delay remains available to route."
Heissman's face tightened.
"Pediatric overflow changes the shape of delay here."
Zunoder turned toward him.
"Explain the shape without handing us sympathy, Heissman."
Heissman glanced at Ty and then at the record.
"Overflow receives people when the primary line fails or refuses to hold them. A care line connected there after a response hold means someone tried to keep the problem human after the system made it procedural."
The drawer accepted the narrow version. The response hold had rerouted a care call.
Mara finally drank from her cup. Her hand shook once when she set it down.
Rose looked at the cup, not Mara.
"Then the call survives as care, not sentiment."
Omina wrote the line in a form the room could keep. The call indicated a human care route survived the response hold.
The drawer accepted it with moderate weight. Not high. Moderate was still better than the room deserved.
Ty felt the boot mark ease by a fraction. The cost remained. For one breath, the mark stopped eating.
The caller record closed its identity field and opened a new path underneath.
