Ty kept his eyes off his hand when the drawer asked for the active absence test.

The empty place was only the easiest part to see. The real absence had traveled farther than flesh. Reports had carried it. Threats had dressed it up. Route marks had given it a job. Erebos had found a way to use the missing piece after the body lost its say.

Omina turned away from the drawer first.

"Before you name the test, ask him for the limit."

The drawer brightened around the word ask. Ty hated that. The file liked consent when consent could become another handle.

Omina kept her voice level.

"Do you consent to an index-only absence test?"

Ty let the question stay open long enough to make the drawer wait. His right hand wanted to curl. He left it flat against his thigh.

"Define what the word absence is allowed to mean first."

Omina wrote the shape before the drawer could offer one. No summoning. No bone response. No title response. No claim transfer. No search for the physical piece. The test could read active absence as a record condition and stop there.

"The test reads a record condition and nothing beyond that."

The drawer offered the cost. Absence might enter the claim record.

JJ leaned closer, pencil held between two fingers.

"Can absence lie when the body stays silent?"

Heissman answered with the face of a man admitting how a clean office taught dirty work.

"People can make absence lie by asking the wrong question."

The drawer accepted the warning. That made Ty trust the test even less.

He still gave consent. Leaving the finger in everyone else's hands would only make the next argument easier for Zunoder.

"Index only, and the drawer writes that before it touches anything."

Omina wrote it, and the drawer accepted before opening the record without an image.

Ty took the mercy and distrusted it. No picture meant no public shape for strangers to pass around. It also meant the room had to rely on route stamps, measurements, and purpose marks. A piece of a body became numbers because numbers could sit on a page without flinching.

The first lines were ugly enough in plain form. Before this review, the finger had already been removed, its location left unconfirmed, and its purpose history kept active.

Omina asked for the purpose history.

The drawer gave three uses in a single line, naming signal, threat, and proof of access as if the order made the damage cleaner.

Mara's face changed on the shelter feed. Rose stood close enough for Mara to see her and far enough to keep the camera from turning comfort into evidence. Ty noticed the restraint because it cost more than a touch would have.

Zunoder moved before the hurt could remain human.

"Purpose assignment increases claimant weight under the prior route."

Omina's pen stayed ready.

"Use history, not ownership, and write the difference clearly."

The drawer accepted use history as high. Ownership stayed undetermined.

Ty kept his arm loose. The test pulled at records around the hand rather than the hand itself. Every mention of grip, right side, bone, signature, old damage, or proof leaned inward as if the page wanted to close a fist for him.

His body remembered faster than thought. Close. Reach. Correct for a shape that no longer matched. Stop before the room priced the movement.

Yun-Jin shifted beside the boot mark.

Omina caught the first false attachment before Zunoder could own it.

"Prior removal gives no current body proof by itself."

Zunoder turned toward Ty's hand.

"The route is using his reaction as a reunion."

Omina answered without looking away from the drawer.

"Reaction to damage is not reunion with the missing part."

That distinction cost more than Ty wanted it to. The boot mark pulled again, and he set his weight carefully through both feet.

The drawer found Erebos next.

The old assignment had used the finger to define hunter absence. It named Erebos as the purpose assigner and gave him an active interpretive claim.

JJ's pencil stopped.

"There is the old hand on the scale."

Ty read the line while it settled under his skin. Erebos needed the room to answer around the wound. That was worse than ownership in some ways. Ownership could be challenged. A good interpretation got repeated by people who believed they were only being accurate.

Yun-Jin spoke before Zunoder could make the line sound reasonable.

"That is the old route's favorite crime, taking the wound away from the wounded person because another person made better use of it."

The drawer entered the warning as a live concern. Wound use could compete with the wounded person's claim.

JJ looked disgusted.

"I hate when the file learns the right sentence."

The drawer offered Ty a remedy after that.

He could reclaim the absence as property.

The offer had teeth because it would work. If he called the absence property, Erebos would lose ground. The file would strengthen Ty's claim, and the room would be able to say he had chosen the frame himself.

Caelin's office went quiet on the side feed. Even Waddell stopped moving. No one wanted to be the first adult to tell a man to call his own missing piece property, but the room wanted the advantage badly enough for the silence to feel like pressure.

The word mine tried to rise from an honest place. The finger had been part of him, the loss belonged to his body, and someone else had no right to use that empty space better than he did.

His anger liked the offer. That made it more dangerous. Anger could mistake a clean target for a clean choice, and Erebos had survived this long by giving other people useful targets.

Lost Property ruined the offer.

The same shelf that could hold a wrist band, a sheet, a sealed door, and a finger was offering him power if he climbed onto it willingly. He felt the shape of the bargain and hated how close it came to justice.

"The offer works because it is dirty, not because it is false."

Zunoder caught the hesitation and pressed into it.

"Reclaiming it would reduce Erebos right now and protect your claim."

Ty looked at his hand at last.

"I know exactly why the drawer wants me hungry."

"Then take the reduction before he takes more."

Ty lifted his eyes from the missing place.

"No, because I would be climbing onto the shelf."

The drawer recorded the refusal with enough force to make the boot mark bite.

Zunoder's voice sharpened.

"You are conceding interpretive ground to the old assigner."

"I am conceding the shelf, not the wound."

Omina wrote the fuller version. Ty refused the property frame for body absence.

The boot mark took payment. Ty's knee dipped before he caught himself, and Yun-Jin caught his sleeve rather than his hand. The choice mattered. A hand could become proof of weakness. A sleeve was cloth, and cloth could wrinkle without changing ownership.

The drawer marked physical cost.

Ty stayed upright.

JJ looked from his sleeve to the drawer.

"Ask what the absence can say outside property."

The drawer needed time for that. When the answer came, Heissman lifted his head.

Active absence could test whether the route required a complete body to assign the Name function.

Omina asked the question before Zunoder could wrap it in theory.

The route had assigned function without requiring a complete body.

Zunoder looked satisfied.

"Then absence fails to invalidate the route by itself."

The drawer added the second answer before he could make the first one final. The route had recorded absence before function assignment.

Omina wrote it in plain language.

"The route knew the body was incomplete before assignment."

Heissman stared at the sentence like it had found him personally. Maybe it had. Teachers and clerks and quiet assistants had all lived inside those clean words once, passing them forward because the form asked for the next box.

The line left Ty exactly where he stood. It gave him no finger, no clean victory over Erebos, and no answer from the sealed caller. It still forced the file to show the route stepping over a missing part while pretending the body was suitable for use.

For tonight, that mattered.

Ty let the line stand without trying to make it kinder.

The absence test closed with Erebos still holding interpretive claim and Ty still refusing the property frame.

Yun-Jin let go of his sleeve. The cloth stayed creased where she had held it, and Ty left it that way.

The drawer offered the old temptation again through sealed item D zero one.
