From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 828 - 828: Lost Property Lists The DoorOmina kept Lost Property closed while the pending line sat on the drawer.
No one hurried her.
That helped more than Ty expected. A fast room made the door feel useful. A slower one made everyone sit with what useful had cost so far.
JJ hooked one foot around her chair leg and dragged herself closer to the table.
"Can we see the index without waking anything in it?"
The drawer answered with an offer shaped like mercy. A limited index could open. Item labels might enter the feed.
Caelin's aide started typing before Caelin spoke. The movement showed in the corner of the tablet, all wrists and panic.
"If labels reach the feed, strangers will turn them into slogans."
Waddell leaned into view beside him.
"People make churches out of locked drawers with fewer vowels."
Jade rubbed the heel of her hand under her bad eye.
"Then keep the feed from teaching them the song."
Ty watched the sentence land. Jade sounded tired, which made the order better. She was not trying to sound sharp for the room. She was trying to keep strangers from tasting a title until they wanted more.
Omina pinned the limit to the top of the index. Item contact, waking, and repeated public display were barred after the first record entry. The first line would stay for the review, because hiding it now would only teach the file to hide harder. Every later caption would use a sealed item reference.
The drawer pushed back through policy, warning that public discussion would continue outside the controlled feed.
Caelin read the objection with his jaw set.
"We control the caption, not every mouth outside it."
His aide looked at him, waiting for the cleaner version.
Caelin gave none.
"Use the sealed item reference after the first line."
The drawer accepted the compromise and priced it. Public claims of title hiding would increase.
Ty almost laughed, and the feeling disgusted him. Hidden title sounded safer than a title strangers could chew until the words felt like they belonged to them. The warning was probably true. It was also useful to the thing behind the warning.
Lost Property opened as a flat index on the drawer.
That mattered. A room would have invited old instincts. A room had corners, shelves, and doors. A list stayed under Omina's hand, even when the words on it tried to crawl toward him.
The first item was the temporary wrist band missing from transfer.
The second was the yellow sheet entered under orderly retention.
The third was the right-hand finger from a prior route, marked as an active absence.
Ty's fingers tightened before he caught them. The missing piece sat in the same column as the wrist band and sheet, filed as if it were a glove left under a bench. It had been proof, threat, sign, and leverage. The office had still found a way to make it inventory.
Yun-Jin saw his hand before the drawer did. She shifted her boot near the mark and held there, close enough to remind him where the floor was.
Omina did the same work in words.
"That item waits until we can handle it properly."
Zunoder looked from the line to Ty.
"It sits in the same index as the door."
Omina's hilt stayed low.
"That is why we handle it with more care."
The drawer displayed the door label once. Caelin's suppression caught the next public refresh and turned it into sealed item D zero one.
JJ watched the caption change and let out a breath through her nose.
"Guessing wears out faster than a chant does."
Caelin glanced toward someone off camera.
"They will still guess and blame us for the gap."
"Let them blame the gap if it keeps teeth off the name," Jade said. "The gap hurts less than worship from strangers."
The drawer recorded a reduction in public recognition. It did so slowly enough for Ty to feel the resistance in the room's bones.
Zunoder noticed the reduction too.
"You are starving the title of public recognition."
Omina looked at him without ornament.
"Yes, and you noticed because it was working."
Ty felt the old title draw back by a small measure. It still had weight. It still knew too many locks inside him. But the easy food had been pulled from the table, and for once the room had seen the hunger before feeding it.
The index shifted from labels into relations, pairing the wrist band with failed correction, the yellow sheet with preserved uncertainty, the finger with active absence, and the door with a distress flag that still blocked title contact.
Jade read the four lines twice.
"Those are not lost things. They are interruptions."
The drawer softened the word before accepting it. Lost items could function as interruptions.
Zunoder claimed the interruptions belonged to the Name route. Yun-Jin said they might belong to theft. The drawer kept both options because conflict let it avoid the uglier job of choosing.
Ty stared at the four entries until the list stopped behaving like a list. The wrist band had failed to reach the child it named. The yellow sheet had survived because someone hid it where linen should have been. The finger stayed active because someone had used what was missing. The door held a caller's distress and still gave no one the right to hear it.
Together, the items proved a pattern. The route had stepped over things that should have stopped it.
Omina asked which one created administrative need.
The drawer named all four candidates in one breath, from failed correction to preserved uncertainty, active absence, and sealed distress.
It wanted them stacked. Ty felt that in the way the words leaned toward each other. Four weak permissions could become one strong shove if the room let them touch.
Omina cut the stack apart.
"Then no single piece buys the right to wake the door."
The drawer pressed the most tempting argument. The sealed door might resolve multiple candidates at once.
Zunoder gave the temptation a human voice.
"The door can answer caller, route, and title in one act."
The room leaned.
Ty hated how much of him leaned with it. One answer sounded clean. One answer would let them stop counting the smaller wrongs. It would let every tired adult in the room pretend the shortcut was restraint because the shortcut hurt only one place.
He put his open hand on the edge of the table.
"One act is exactly how people hide which hand did harm."
The drawer marked his refusal as a tactical loss.
Omina added integrity preservation below it.
The drawer gave the smaller weight to integrity.
JJ looked at the numbers and shook her head.
"Everything decent gets priced like furniture with a cracked leg."
Heissman had gone pale around the mouth. He kept staring at the third item, not the door.
"The absence has a handler problem, but I hate the word."
Ty turned his head.
"Use the word that makes your stomach worse."
Heissman swallowed. His eyes moved once toward Zunoder, then away. Shame left him slow, but it kept him from lying.
"Someone gave a body part a job after the body lost its say."
The drawer opened the claimant conflict.
It listed the original body, the current subject, and the person who had assigned the purpose.
The last line named Erebos.
Mara went still on the shelter feed. Rose reached toward her sleeve and stopped before the camera could turn comfort into evidence. That restraint cost her; Ty could see it in the fingers left hanging in the air.
Omina wrote under the name before Zunoder could use it.
"Purpose assigner cannot become owner because he found a use."
The drawer accepted the limit at a cost.
Zunoder's face warmed by a fraction.
"Cannot become owner by that route alone, which matters here."
Omina's pen paused. Ty understood why. Every limit in this room seemed to need a crack just wide enough for a later hand.
JJ leaned forward.
"Write the crack where everyone can see it."
Omina did. Purpose assignment alone failed to create ownership. Additional claim routes remained contested and required separate proof.
The drawer accepted that with less resistance, which made Ty trust it less.
The missing finger had become stronger evidence because another person had used it. That was the old problem in a smaller shape. The smaller shape made it crueler. A whole body could be turned into a title, and a lost piece could be turned into a handle.
Lost Property had opened to show him how many things could still be taken if he reached wrong.
Omina kept the items separate on the drawer, with the wrist band away from the sheet, the sheet away from the finger, and the finger away from the door. Each item asked for a different mistake, and she gave none of them permission to combine for free.
The drawer produced the next path after that.
The active absence test waited at the bottom of the index, aimed at the missing finger.
