From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 831 - 831: Zunoder Uses The RefusalThe question reached the public feed before Caelin's office could bury it.
Why hide the king?
King was enough. People knew how to carry that word without help. They put it on Ty before the sealed door opened, before a record spoke, before anyone proved the title belonged to a person instead of a trap.
Ty had been taken apart by questions before. This one had teeth.
On Jade's shelter feed, breakfast slowed. People looked down at their screens instead of their bowls. Anika crossed behind them with a pot in both hands and the kind of face that made the serving line remember food still mattered.
A boy whispered hidden king to another kid.
Anika set a bowl between them with a hard little click.
"Eat first, then decide which rumor deserves your breath."
The boy looked at the bowl. Then he ate.
At that table, the chant died because his mouth had work. Caelin's warning would have failed in the same place. The file marked the effect as local, like local meant small.
Jade read the entry on her side of the feed.
"Local is where people live before records find them."
The drawer gave the counterweight almost nothing.
Ty took it anyway.
A child eating instead of chanting would never impress the room, but it changed what the child did next. Ty had started to respect anything that worked without asking the file for applause. If he had to survive by inches, then an inch counted.
Zunoder waited until the public tags multiplied. He let them do the first work for him. When he spoke, the argument already had people under it.
"The subject refused a path that may confirm superior authority."
Omina stepped between him and the drawer.
"He refused contact with a sealed title that may override him."
Zunoder spread one hand.
"The sealed title may outrank his current refusal."
Omina wrote beside the claim.
"That is exactly why it stays sealed today."
The file accepted both interpretations. One tried to crown Ty. The other tried to keep the crown from becoming skin. Neither felt safe.
Waddell gave Zunoder a flat look from the shelter feed.
"Do not dress rumor up as recognition for the room."
Zunoder ignored him and requested public weight anyway. He called the rumor an association between Ty and the hidden king title.
Omina got her answer down before the phrase hardened. Public rumor could associate Ty with a sealed title, but contact and consent stayed outside it.
Yun-Jin added the blunt version.
"Refusal is not consent when the door profits from opening."
Zunoder accepted that loss too easily.
"Fear can reveal suppressed identity in old possession cases."
Ty looked at him.
Fear was the one thing Zunoder already had.
The sealed door scared him. The old routes scared him. A title that could use his body better than he could use it scared him most of all. Pretending otherwise would give the file a cleaner lie to work with.
Omina stayed quiet. She could have protected him from the uglier reading for another minute, but the room would use fear anyway.
Ty put both hands on the edge of the table.
"Write the fear, and write the refusal beside it."
The drawer marked the admission.
Ty feared sealed item D zero one.
Ty maintained refusal.
The two lines sat together. Zunoder wanted the first to swallow the second.
Ty kept his hands where everyone could see them. That mattered more than he liked. His body had become a public object too many times, cut into labels like missing finger, sealed title, old route, and hidden king until every piece tried to turn him into proof.
This time he gave the room nothing to chase.
The fear stayed in his throat. He let it stay there. A person could be afraid and still choose. That sounded obvious until the file made fear look like confession.
Omina wrote beside the admission in smaller script.
"The fear describes risk, not ownership of the risk."
Zunoder answered without looking away from Ty.
"Risk still points toward the thing he expects to claim him."
Ty felt the old pull in that wording. The words meant claim him, use him, finish him, and make him easier for strangers to explain.
Jade's voice cut through from the shelter.
"He expects knives because people keep reaching for handles."
Jade leaned toward the shelter tablet.
"Or it can mean a person wants to survive."
Caelin's aide read the public split as it came in. Some people called the fear honest. Some called it confession. The worst replies called it bait and demanded the door again, like Ty owed strangers a show because he had admitted being afraid.
Waddell rubbed his temple.
"At least the crowd found three wrong answers before lunch."
Omina told Caelin to issue the second warning.
He typed it without asking how to make it kind.
Fear is not identity. Refusal is not proof. Do not assign title, family, crime, or authority based on a protected refusal.
The warning cost his office at once. Calls stacked. Accusations came through faster than the filters could sort them. A credibility mark appeared beside his name, and Caelin's mouth tightened when he saw it.
"Office management can absorb that wording if the phones hold."
Omina looked at him.
"Witness protection absorbs that wording before office management does."
Caelin caught the difference and nodded once.
The two labels sat side by side, ugly enough to help.
Before the warning settled, Zunoder moved.
"Since the subject refuses sealed authority, the old route must be weighed without that counterproof."
Omina's answer came clean.
"The route keeps the advantage without the sealed counterproof."
Zunoder's face eased.
He had wanted her to say it.
Ty had known the cost. Seeing it enter still hurt.
The route that moved through missing body proof, hospital paper, jaw movement, machine tone, and the sealed call still outweighed him because the cleanest answer slept behind a door he chose to leave shut.
Omina entered the reason before Zunoder could turn the choice into simple weakness. The advantage remained because Ty protected himself from a worse override.
The file gave that reason low weight.
JJ leaned over her sheet.
"Low keeps arriving like it owns boots in this room."
The drawer moved past her complaint and opened the next public challenge.
If not king, why king record?
Mara went pale on the shelter feed. Rose turned toward her but kept her hand off the visitor tape. Ty saw the answer move through both women before the drawer found it.
Omina lowered her voice.
"Mara, say only what you can stand behind."
Mara closed her hands on the edge of the table.
"Older records used king language before asking the person under it."
Zunoder looked pleased enough to make Ty want to break the expression off his old face.
"That gives us old-world title precedent for the record."
Mara kept her eyes on Omina.
"This is world-reset precedent, and you know the difference."
The phrase opened three marks that had been sitting under the surface. Angelic archive, Alexira route, and Hunter record.
Hunter landed differently than king.
Ty felt Kieran before the record moved. Not as a voice in his head. Not as an answer. More like old blame leaning close enough to put weight on the table.
Caelin's aide whispered that the feed recognized the word. Waddell told her to cut captions, but her face said the damage had already gone out.
The public summary formed anyway.
Hunter destroys worlds.
Omina struck the drawer edge with her hilt.
"Correct the summary before anyone uses it as evidence."
Zunoder objected.
"The summary may be relevant to title fear."
Omina kept her hilt against the wood.
"Then make it a claim until a record earns more."
The drawer resisted. Ty felt the hesitation as pressure in his teeth. The public already liked the simple version. Simple versions traveled better because they asked nothing from the people carrying them.
Omina pressed harder.
"Claim only, until the archive carries its own weight."
The drawer reduced the summary.
Public claim only.
Ty looked at the new marks. Alexira carried a cost he had no way to measure yet. The public had found an older story and started shaping it into a knife before anyone in the room had earned the right to hold it.
Under the Hunter record, one chain loosened around the old virus, the Alexira reset, and Kieran's disputed connection.
Zunoder used the opening at once.
"If the prior subject destroyed a world then fear has precedent in the record."
From the side of the review, Kieran's voice came through low from years of being summarized by people who liked the shortest version.
"That virus was never mine to release, no matter what the archive claims."
The drawer identified the voice and offered the response.
Kieran's record could answer.
