The page closed around Ty's answer and left his hands on the table.

He kept them there after the ink stopped moving. His fingers wanted something easier. A throat. A seal. The blank place where a worker name had been hidden from him.

Yun-Jin watched his knuckles before she watched his face.

Omina gave him the space to choose badly, then made the next bad choice harder.

"Open protected provisional identity review for Bone Half under hidden-warning burden."

The table seam brightened. A thin line ran beneath Ty's palms, under Omina's paper, and across the space between Bone Half and the old body.

Zunoder looked down at it with Ty's old mouth pulled flat.

"Provisional means unfinished, and unfinished should never outrank a returned body."

Heissman pulled a bent rule card from his coat. Water stained one edge, and three punch holes cut through the top.

"That argument works in cheap offices and expensive funerals. This room has already accepted hidden damage."

"Then prove protection without making sympathy look like law," Zunoder said.

Ty hated the weight in that sentence. Zunoder kept taking true things, pointing them at the wrong wound, and waiting for everyone to hate the truth enough to lose the case.

JJ pushed her pencil back behind her ear.

"Then protection should hold the room still while evidence stays clean, not make anybody worship him."

The page took her wording before Omina reached the line. Omina wrote it anyway, because a route that moved by itself still needed a person willing to own the request.

"Protected provisional identity preserves the current contested name while evidence is reviewed. It grants no crown, no final title, no body ownership, and no worker disclosure."

The ink accepted preserves. It slowed at contested name. It dug a faint groove at no crown.

The Skeleton King title had learned the smell of weakness. It pressed at the side of the room like a coat offered in winter by someone who wanted your house keys.

"If that title walks in here with a clean form, I am biting somebody important."

Heissman checked her from the side, more tired than alarmed.

"A bite becomes less useful when announced in advance."

"I am keeping the room informed for staffing purposes."

Jade's tablet gave one rough burst of static, then steadied. Her face looked drawn down by pain and office light. Waddell stood behind her with a paper cup in each hand, distrusting both.

Caelin's aide sat beside them, already typing the line.

"Public side needs one sentence before rumor makes six."

Jade read the new line and held her bad eye closed for three breaths.

"Write that no title is being awarded here."

The aide typed while Waddell leaned close enough to read.

"Add that nobody gets to sell shirts off this mess."

The aide paused, then typed a cleaner version.

"No merchandise language, no hero title, no identity claim."

"My version had better teeth and fewer escape routes," Waddell said.

"My version survives a public records request after breakfast," the aide answered.

Jade pointed at the screen without looking away from Ty's feed.

"Keep hers. Your teeth start lawsuits before lunch."

That small room on Earth kept doing work Ty could feel in his bones. Phones would ring, and strangers would pull for the boy, the worker, the face, whichever piece fit the clean story. The tablet people kept putting chairs in front of doors.

The page warmed under Omina's hand.

The review listed its first protection in ordinary script. Name removal cannot complete against Bone Half while protected provisional review remains active and uncorrupted.

Ty read it twice. Complete mattered. It left teeth in the removal, just kept them out of his name for now.

"It is a shield against completion, not a deletion of the attack."

"I can live with a shield that admits it is a shield," Ty said.

"And while he hides behind that shield, the returned body carries every old record."

The page allowed the objection to sit.

Omina turned the paper a fraction toward him.

"State the part that changes because of this review."

"Face User primary correction cannot complete during active protection."

The ink took his words from him.

"That came out too clean for my comfort."

"He named the loss himself where the room could charge it," Heissman said.

Zunoder looked at Ty then, and the old face carried less performance than usual. Ty remembered making that expression at broken locks, unpaid bills, things that should have opened and chose not to.

"You still need my body to finish your proof," Zunoder said.

Ty looked at the skin he once owned.

"I need the body to stop voting over people who paid more than skin."

The page marked that line at the edge, neither accepting nor rejecting it. Ty let it go.

Mara's voice came from the side feed where Rose had her seated again.

"Ask what remains incomplete before someone fills it with a title."

Omina wrote the next request with no flourish.

"List remaining incompleteness under protected provisional identity before the title moves."

The page answered in prose so plain it felt cruel.

Bone Half remains incomplete in old-body custody, original-name authority, missing-finger purpose, sealed worker identity, and final title placement.

There it was. Protection with holes big enough for enemies, friends, and gods to reach through.

Yun-Jin leaned closer, voice low but not soft.

"A clean lie would have sounded kinder than that."

"Kind is where traps learn manners when nobody checks the receipt," Ty said.

The Skeleton King pressure returned when the page named final title placement. It came clearer this time, without a voice, only a clean pull at every loose part of him. The offer arranged itself as one tidy trade. Stable title, closed review, completed placement.

Omina's pen stopped above the paper.

"The replacement title has found the open gap."

Zunoder smiled with no pleasure.

"He should take it. A king needs no argument from children, nurses, clerks, sponsors, or grieving women."

Ty felt Yun-Jin shift before her hand touched his wrist. She held bone so he knew someone living stood beside the place he wanted to cut.

"That sentence is exactly why he cannot take it."

Omina raised one hand, and JJ swallowed the rest.

Ty kept his eyes on the offer. It made the same trade three ways: stable title, closed review, completed placement.

It promised to stop asking Mara to remember hallways, move Jade out from between public hunger and exhausted witnesses, spare JJ another bill, give Yun-Jin a fight she could understand, and hand Ty a name no thief could wear by accident.

It promised all of that by making every person who had chosen him smaller than the title that arrived after them.

Ty pushed his hands flat until the table complained.

"Restrict Skeleton King from replacement use in this review. No title closes a witness chain that other people paid to keep honest."

Omina wrote every word.

The page fought.

Ink pulled away from the line in little threads, searching for a cheaper version. Heissman put his bent rule card down on the edge of the paper.

"Administrative note. Replacement title cannot cure the defect created by hidden warning unless it proves warning receipt and witness preservation."

The ink caught on proves. It hated witness preservation. That made Ty trust the phrase a little.

Yun-Jin added, "If it wants to be a title, make it carry the same cost as everyone else."

The Skeleton King pull cracked at the edge. It retreated without leaving. Ty felt the shape of it stay near the wall, patient and offended.

"Public side gets no title, no crown, no king."

Caelin's aide typed before Caelin could ask for a softer version.

"Entered exactly that way until public risk changes."

Caelin looked down at the aide.

"You typed until public risk changes into the office line?"

"The office can survive sounding blunt until the building stops bleeding calls."

Waddell lifted one cup toward her.

"You are getting the coffee that has less powder in it."

"That is not the compliment you think it is," she said.

"This building has adjusted my standards for drinkable mercy."

The page finished taking the restriction. The new line settled under Bone Half's name.

Skeleton King title cannot replace, complete, or outrank protected provisional identity during this review.

Zunoder read it and lowered his hand from the table. His attention shifted to the sealed worker space, colder now, counting what the room had left exposed.

Ty saw the change too late to stop it from meaning something.

"Do not move toward the sealed worker space."

Zunoder's old face turned back to her.

"I have no need to move toward that sealed worker."

Heissman went still enough that JJ followed his gaze.

A new crease had appeared beneath the sealed worker space. It cut upward from under the old body record and made a door out of the foundation line.

Rose stood behind her chair.

The crease unfolded into a narrow filing slip with an orange mark pressed into the corner. The mark had no name. It needed none to make the room colder.

Omina read the line, and her voice lost its command shape for one breath before she rebuilt it.

"Original body custody review becomes the next administrative need."

The smile belonged to him, not Ty.

"Good, because now the room has to ask where the body belongs."
