From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 855 - 855: The Claim Was PackedThe new line waited at the bottom of the custody slip.
It asked who had returned the body with a claim already inside it.
Ty disliked the question before anyone answered.
Returned made it sound simple. A package came back. A door opened. A body arrived where the next desk could file it.
That was not what had happened to him.
Erebos had killed him first. The Demon King had offered the vessel path after. Ty had chosen a contract because Jade was still alive somewhere behind everything he had lost. The old body on the table belonged to a later wound, not the beginning of the story.
If the room blurred those together, Zunoder would have room to breathe.
Ty put one knuckle against the custody slip.
"Do not call it returned like that covers everything."
Omina's pen stopped above the paper.
She looked at him once, then scratched a line through the question before the page could punish the correction.
"Revise the label and open prepared body-claim source, limited to claim attached before custody review."
The paper resisted the new wording.
Ty had started trusting resistance more than help.
Mara leaned toward the tablet feed, both hands locked around the edge of her chair.
"Say it in words people can carry."
Omina let the pen hover.
Mara swallowed and made herself keep the work voice.
"Someone put a claim inside the old body before the desk ever logged it."
The page took her sentence.
It took it hard.
The custody slip flattened against the table, and the mark under Zunoder's palm thinned until his old skin showed through the stain.
JJ stared at the new wording.
"People can understand that version before the paper starts wearing a robe."
Zunoder looked at Mara through Ty's old eyes.
"A body can arrive with emergency handling already attached without making the handler a criminal."
Mara's mouth tightened.
"Emergency handling tells the next room how to keep the body from being lost and gives that room no right to own the name."
Rose stood behind her without touching this time.
Mara had found enough floor to stand on by herself.
Omina wrote both lines.
"Emergency handling may travel with a body. Identity claim may not hide inside emergency handling without review."
The page accepted emergency handling first.
It tried to leave the second sentence pale.
Heissman bent over the table and put two fingers beside the weak line.
"If a claim arrives before custody, the custody office inherited a loaded answer and cannot pretend it created the claim honestly."
The ink thickened.
Yun-Jin looked at Ty.
"Loaded answer is better than the old label."
"Everything is better than the old label."
JJ pointed at him with the broken pencil.
"That includes your face right now, and your face is doing paperwork rage badly."
Ty almost answered. The old body moved first.
Zunoder set its hand flat again. The fingers had already curled toward the mark, holding the claim in place.
The page noticed.
Body response attempted to preserve pre-attached claim.
Zunoder read the line and went still.
Omina drew a box around it and entered the line as body behavior, not identity behavior.
The page took that too.
Ty felt the old pull in his wrist ease by a fraction. Small. Annoyingly small. Enough to make the next breath belong to him.
Zunoder's voice stayed careful. "The body knows what came with it."
Yun-Jin answered before Ty could.
"Bodies remember damage without making damage a will."
The page held her sentence in the margin, undecided.
Ty wanted it accepted. The want made him leave it alone.
Omina moved the review forward.
"Open whether the pre-attached claim expands custodian weight across the room."
The custody slip folded inward, then unfolded with a new crease through the center. The crease ran from Zunoder's mark toward Bone Half's protected line and stopped before touching it.
Heissman exhaled through his nose.
"There is the trick the claim was using."
JJ leaned closer.
"Use the version with fewer cursed nouns."
"The claim tried to ride custody across the room and step over his protection."
Omina wrote that exactly.
The page took it at high weight.
Zunoder's old jaw tightened.
"Custody must be able to answer for what it carries."
"Yes, and now every answer carries the packed-claim defect beside it," Omina said.
She wrote the line before the page could make it softer.
Every custodian answer from returned body carries pre-attached claim defect until source review closes.
The table seam cooled under Ty's hands.
No one celebrated.
That helped.
Wins in this room usually came with a hook under them.
Jade's tablet crackled. Her face filled the corner of the feed, drawn and focused, one eye doing too much work.
"Say what that means for people outside the room."
Caelin's aide looked down at her public script.
Her fingers were ink-stained now. A little smear crossed the side of her hand where she had rubbed too fast and kept writing anyway.
"The old body remains under care review, care review proves handling instead of identity, and the public gets no search, vote, or claim request."
Waddell leaned into view behind Jade.
"Add that nobody gets to call this a fake body either."
The aide paused.
Waddell held up one hand.
"I know this is the public line and not my line."
She wrote.
"The body is real evidence under limits. It is not public property and not a public answer."
Jade nodded once.
"Use that version for the public line."
Zunoder watched the Earth feed with an expression that belonged too much to Ty's old face.
"You are teaching the public to distrust the only living body they can recognize."
Jade looked at him through the tablet.
"I am teaching them not to hunt a body because they are scared of a skeleton."
The page took Jade's sentence.
It placed it under public boundary.
Ty kept his head down for the next breath. Jade had sounded tired, angry, and alive. The combination got under his ribs faster than any route mark.
The Reaper thread stayed still.
Pain would have made the stillness easier to trust.
Omina turned the custody slip sideways.
"Open prepared body-claim source by apparatus class only, with sealed worker identity, private station, and personal name excluded."
The black mark in the corner answered before the paper did.
A circle formed.
Twelve cuts opened around it.
One burned line sat beneath the ring.
The room knew the shape before the name arrived.
JJ's voice lost its edge.
"His mark came before his name."
Heissman kept his hand on the table.
"Apparatus class comes first, and the name comes second only if the route earns it."
The page printed one plain line.
Pre-attached claim was prepared through elevated signer apparatus outside custody chain.
Omina underlined outside custody chain.
"Open effect on direct Name removal through this claim."
Zunoder moved fast enough that the old body's chair scraped.
"Objection, since elevated signer apparatus can lawfully prepare emergency claims."
JJ snapped her pencil clean through the middle this time.
"You keep saying emergency like the word came with soap."
Zunoder turned on her.
"Because emergency is how bodies stay preserved when ordinary offices fail."
"And it is how thieves talk when the lock was already cut."
The page ignored both lines.
Omina looked at both of them until the room tightened back into work.
Heissman gave the usable version.
"Emergency preparation can preserve custody material. A hidden prepared claim cannot complete identity correction."
The page accepted.
Omina wrote the verdict path under it.
"Direct Name removal against Bone Half cannot complete through this returned-body claim while protected provisional identity and hidden-warning review remain active."
The line fought.
Ty felt it in his hand, not his wrist.
The old body in Zunoder's chair pressed its palm harder against the table. Zunoder let it happen. The stain under the fingers spread toward the new line, searching for a gap.
Yun-Jin stepped closer.
"Let it show what it wants."
Ty hated the advice because it was right.
He kept his hand still.
The stain touched Omina's line and broke into uneven pieces.
Thin black threads pulled back into the custody slip, one by one, until only the limited custodian mark remained under Zunoder's palm.
The page finished taking the verdict.
Name removal route through returned-body clean claim suspended. Primary correction blocked. Custodian duty remains.
Zunoder stared at the line long enough that the performance had nowhere to hide.
For one ugly breath, he looked like a man standing in a borrowed house after the deed failed.
Pleasure stayed out of it, and that absence sat wrong in Ty's ribs.
Omina marked the verdict as partial and active.
"Returned body still requires care, Face User remains accountable for handling under limit, and no identity correction follows from that duty."
Zunoder's old hand closed slowly.
"You leave me with the chore and strip the answer."
"You used the chore to reach for the answer," Omina said.
Mara looked smaller after the verdict, but steadier.
"That is what bad custody does."
Rose finally touched her shoulder again.
Mara let her.
On the tablet, Caelin's aide repeated the public script to someone offscreen. Her voice held level. That mattered. Panic loved official voices that shook.
Jade listened until the aide finished, then turned slightly.
"Waddell, tell me where Tyree is standing."
"South stairwell with two soldiers and the teacher who bites people verbally."
"Tell him no one opens that door for a body caller."
Waddell moved before she finished writing it down.
Ty heard Tyree's name and thought of Waddle. Arena dust. Bad jokes. A man who wanted freedom and still stood in the line. Another person tied to Earth by a brotherhood that paperwork would probably misread if given enough time.
Waddle belonged to the road after this room, a living witness with his own fire to stand in.
The black circle on the paper pulsed once.
Omina raised her pen.
"Do not open the apparatus room while this verdict is still cooling."
The circle ignored her and stayed sealed while the notice moved through it.
Across the paper, the twelve cuts turned like small locks finding teeth.
The burned line beneath them brightened and printed four words before the mark sealed itself flat.
ROOM FOUR RECEIVED FAILURE.
Heissman's face changed first, and JJ saw it before anyone else moved.
JJ saw it and set both broken pencil pieces down.
"Room Four is not an office inside this room."
Ty looked at the sealed black circle.
Somewhere outside the route, inside a prison that had no business touching time, Erebos's machinery had learned that this path failed.
Jade's damaged eye opened wider on the tablet, fighting the rest of her face.
She gripped the side of the table hard enough for the camera to shake.
Waddell's voice came from offscreen, already too close to her chair.
"Jade, talk to me before you try to stand up."
She kept her gaze on Ty's feed.
"Something just counted this room through me and left the count behind."
The Reaper thread stayed quiet.
Ty kept his hands on the table because moving toward Jade would give the room another answer to price.
Omina slid the cooled verdict under a brass clamp. Heissman pressed his thumb against the pin until it clicked.
"We seal the verdict before we chase whoever heard it," Omina said.
On Jade's side, Waddell moved into the camera with his radio already raised.
"South stairwell stays closed, and nobody answers body calls or Room Four."
Jade blinked once. Her damaged eye kept staring even after the lid came down.
The black circle on Ty's paper stayed sealed.
A matching mark formed at the edge of Jade's shelter map.
