From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 859 - 859: The Clip Kept The FaceCaelin's office inbox delivered the next test with a government header, three forwarding stamps, and a subject line polite enough to be dangerous.
Identity confirmation requested for public safety broadcast.
Caelin's aide read it once, stopped moving, and kept both hands above the keyboard.
Jade saw the change in her face before the feed caption caught up.
"Keep the attachment off live screens until we know what it wants."
The aide turned the monitor away from the room and unplugged the second display with her free hand.
Caelin stood behind her, tie loose, sleeves rolled, eyes fixed on the message like it had come with teeth.
"It came through emergency media coordination, so it already has a public path."
"That means it wants your answer in a format strangers can quote."
The aide swallowed.
"The form gives us two boxes and no human answer."
Below the form sat a hospital contact note from Mr. Hollis.
Caelin read it without opening the attachment.
"He wants to know whether the man who carried him is safe to thank publicly."
Tessa looked down at her towel.
"The question itself is fair, which makes it harder."
Jade agreed, which made the question worse. Bad questions were easy to throw away. A frightened old man asking who had saved him had weight, and Room Four knew exactly where to hang it.
"We answer the safety part without giving the face a name."
Jade already knew what they were.
She asked anyway because making the trap say its own shape helped people resist it.
"Read both boxes before anyone touches them."
The aide looked at the screen.
"Subject in clip confirmed as Ty Hockenson. Subject in clip not confirmed as Ty Hockenson."
Waddell made a sound from the laundry corridor feed.
"There should be a third box for whoever designed that form needing a chair thrown at them."
Caelin kept his face flat.
"The attachment is the Hollis rescue clip from the grocery incident."
The name moved through the shelter without needing volume. Tessa came into the cafeteria from the kitchen with a towel over one shoulder and her bandaged hand held away from the soup trays.
"Hollis and the face are both being used again in the same breath."
Jade kept her bad eye on the paper map.
"Name the first person in that sentence before the clip names him for you."
Tessa looked at her, and some of the anger in her face turned useful.
"Hollis comes first, then the face everyone wants to sell."
"Keep that order every time the clip appears."
On the route side, Ty watched the office feed sharpen. The split frame in Room Four had found its public handle. Zunoder's borrowed face sat in the rescue clip, easy to understand, easy to thank, easy to mistake.
Bone Half sat at the sealed verdict table with no skin for the world to forgive.
JJ rubbed both hands over her sleeves.
"I hate forms that only have two boxes because they are always hungry."
Heissman leaned toward Omina's margin.
"The form is trying to convert safety verification into identity confirmation."
Omina uncapped her pen.
"Open public body recognition test under named witness and official form limits, with crowd vote and identity conclusion by checkbox barred."
The paper beside the sealed verdict answered.
PUBLIC BODY RECOGNITION TEST ACTIVE.
OFFICIAL FORM SEEKS BINARY IDENTITY CONFIRMATION.
Caelin's aide clicked the attachment inside an isolated pane. The video opened without sound.
Twelve seconds.
Zunoder's face, Ty's old face, turned toward smoke and broken glass. His body bent, lifted Mr. Hollis under the arms, and hauled him away from the grocery entrance while people shouted off camera. The clip ended before Nora's statement could breathe inside it.
Tessa watched from the cafeteria doorway with her phone in her apron pocket.
"The part with Hollis being carried out of danger happened."
Jade nodded.
"Say the rest before the office form decides what matters."
Tessa's jaw tightened, and the towel on her shoulder slid down her arm.
"The clip keeps the face and cuts the floor where Nora was lying, with the drawer behind him and Mr. Hollis alive because the body moved."
Caelin's aide typed as Tessa spoke.
The form blinked red.
Response exceeds field.
Caelin looked like he wanted to hit the monitor and had enough training to know monitors were never the guilty party.
"The main field allows seventy characters and eats the rest."
Waddell answered from the corridor.
"Use none of those characters until the memo is attached."
Caelin looked at Jade.
Jade shook her head.
"If you leave it blank, someone else fills it with the face."
Ty felt the verified piece land badly.
He wanted to say no. The old body in the clip had saved Hollis. He wanted to say yes even less. The face in the clip was the face people had buried with his name.
Yun-Jin watched him without touching.
"Say the part you hate keeping."
Ty kept his hands flat.
"Hollis was rescued by the body Zunoder is using."
Zunoder's reflection appeared in the black edge of the route table.
"Careful, because that almost sounded honest."
Ty looked at the reflection.
"Honest is not yours just because you found it first."
The paper took the exchange before Zunoder could smile with it.
Omina wrote over the margin.
"Verified public action is the Hollis rescue, actor classification is Face User claimant using contested body, and identity conclusion is barred by active protected provisional review."
The official form rejected the long version on Caelin's screen.
The aide opened the public safety manual beside it, searched with one hand, and found a small gray link under the submit button.
"There is an attachment memo under the submit button."
Caelin leaned closer.
"It says the memo is for exceptional hazard context."
"Use the memo before the form eats the answer," Jade said.
"The main boxes still require selection before the memo can attach."
Tessa stepped closer to the feed.
"Pick the box that blocks identity confirmation and make the memo carry the rescue."
Caelin's hand hovered over the mouse while the form waited for the simpler lie.
Jade stopped him.
"The identity blocked box alone sounds like we deny the rescue."
Tessa's eyes sharpened like the sentence had put a handle in front of her.
"Then make the memo hit harder than the box before anyone crops it."
The aide spoke before Caelin could.
"Box two with mandatory memo, and the memo states the rescue is verified, the actor is the Face User claimant using contested body, and identity conclusion is barred."
Heissman looked at Omina.
"That preserves the action and blocks the name."
Omina wrote it.
The margin fought.
The form on Caelin's screen fought too. The cursor dragged toward the first box by itself.
The aide let go of the mouse and lifted both hands.
The cursor kept sliding.
Waddell's voice came through the corridor radio.
"Unplug the mouse before the form chooses for you."
The aide pulled the cord.
The cursor stopped one finger width from the first box.
Caelin stared at it.
"I am going to need a procurement category for haunted computer equipment."
"Write the procurement complaint after containment, and use the keyboard only."
The aide tabbed through the form while Caelin dictated the memo slowly enough for every word to be owned.
"Rescue of Hollis by contested body is verified, the actor is Face User claimant, identity confirmation is barred during active protected review, and Nora Pell medical limit statement plus Tessa Cole floor record remain attached."
The form accepted the memo.
It accepted the second box.
On Omina's paper, the public body recognition test produced a result instead of a clean rejection.
PUBLIC ACTION VERIFIED.
PUBLIC BODY RECOGNITION LIMITED.
FACE USER PUBLIC ACTION WEIGHT INCREASED.
IDENTITY CONCLUSION BARRED.
JJ stared at the third line.
"I hate that he gets anything from a clip he poisoned."
Ty did too. The hate left the clip unchanged.
He made himself look at the line until the room stopped offering him easier lies.
"He gets the action while the name stays barred, and we keep both parts visible."
Zunoder's reflection smiled with Ty's old mouth and made the old face useful again.
"Public memory starts with action, and action travels faster than your careful label."
Jade heard the caption delay and answered before Ty could.
"Then we keep the second part stapled to it."
Tessa pulled her phone from her apron pocket, set it face down on the table, and put her bandaged hand on top.
"I can say it again if the public starts cleaning it."
Jade looked at the hand, the phone, and the towel on Tessa's shoulder.
"Only if you choose it after eating something."
Tessa's face twisted like the order insulted her pride and saved her from herself at the same time.
"Soup before testimony is a weird rule."
"It is a shelter rule now."
Waddell heard that from the corridor.
"I am writing it on the wall after Lunchbox apologizes."
In Room Four, the split frame changed.
Zunoder's rescue clip stayed on the left.
Bone Half's sealed verdict stayed on the right.
Between them, the wall opened a narrow public lane with a bad label crossed out and replaced by Caelin's memo.
The route had not given Zunoder Ty's name.
It had given him a cleaner road to ask again.
