Chapter 192: Chapter 110: Became Famous

Many of the female newcomers screamed in terror, not daring to shut their eyes all night for fear that the creatures would crawl onto them.

What’s more, these creatures were venomous. A single bite would leave the wound red and swollen for days.

A few newcomers with more... adventurous tastes, driven mad by hunger, secretly caught the water spiders. They removed the heads, innards, and legs, then used a Trick to cook and swallow the pathetic morsel of meat.

From their contorted faces, it wasn’t hard to guess that the taste was something even a dog wouldn’t touch.

But they still ate it.

All in all, for everyone in the camp, it was an absolutely horrendous night.

It wasn’t until the following afternoon that the newcomers, dizzy with hunger, finally saw the floodwaters slowly recede.

The swarms of water spiders, which had run rampant for a night and a morning, finally poured out of the camp.

But the ground was left in an even worse state—a single step would sink you knee-deep into the mire.

In these conditions, accomplishing anything was a fool’s errand.

Including Sitt and Princess Phoebe, the newcomers all squatted on high ground, their faces blank, just wishing for this damn assessment to be over.

"I’m so sick of this!"

That phrase became the camp’s most common refrain.

As night fell once more and the clock struck eight, the grueling 36-hour assessment came to an end.

A cool sensation emanated from everyone’s Guiding Ring at the same time, and the message they had been desperately waiting for finally arrived:

[The second group assessment, "Lost in the Wilds," has concluded. You will now return to the Secret Hall of the Secluded Forest at Black Tower Academy.]

[You may declare any spoils to be transported via your Guiding Ring. They will be teleported back to the Academy with you. Please note: The weight of your spoils cannot exceed 50 kilograms.]

The newcomers looked down at their empty hands and fell silent.

’What spoils?’

’We’re lucky just to have made it out alive.’

A few seconds later, the notification that sent a thrill through everyone finally arrived.

[Transport countdown initiated.]

[5—]

...

The instant the countdown ended, the muddy camp instantly faded, like an old photograph worn away by time.

The world dissolved into a vast expanse of white. When clarity returned, the familiar Secret Hall of the Secluded Forest came into view.

A few of the more emotionally fragile female newcomers even had tears welling in their eyes. ’We’re finally back!’

However, the atmosphere inside the Secret Hall quickly turned strange.

Hushed whispers rose one after another from the crowd.

"Look over there!"

"Look at those three!"

"My god! How do they have so much stuff?!"

All eyes peered through the gaps in the crowd, locking onto a small area a dozen meters away from the main group.

Standing there were a boy and two girls.

Their blue robes were clean and tidy, their expressions calm and composed, and they looked full of vigor.

Even more jarring was the astonishing pile of items at their feet: tightly sealed bottles and jars, large chunks of fresh meat, and vast quantities of bizarre Spiritual Materials.

A single glance was enough to tell that the total weight far exceeded half a ton.

And the Guiding Ring had clearly stated that each person’s spoils could not exceed fifty kilograms.

The two groups stared at each other.

On the Battle Group’s side, everyone was spattered with mud and etched with exhaustion, looking for all the world like a group of refugees who had just escaped a disaster zone.

As for Mo Ning and his two companions, the boy and girls were immaculate and composed, as if they had just returned from a pleasant excursion.

The contrast was dumbfounding.

Whispers drifted through the air:

"Who are they?"

"I recognize Anya! She’s the one who killed the Dark Wizard mole in the Steel Bamboo Forest with a single punch."

"What about the other two?"

"One is Reina, and the other is Mo Ning."

"I thought their Spiritual Talent wasn’t supposed to be very high..."

"Not high? Take a look at the spoils at their feet and tell me that’s what ’not very high talent’ looks like."

At this moment, "Strong People" like Sitt and Princess Phoebe, who were usually the center of attention, lost their halos for the first time.

Three "weaklings" who were usually ignored had become the center of attention.

Just then, the Guiding Ring grew cool once more—the assessment results were in.

Streams of information, using Magic Power as a medium, flowed into the minds of the newcomers.

[You have passed the second group assessment, "Lost in the Wilds." Reward: 5 Black Tower Points.]

[You have passed the second group assessment... Reward: 6 Black Tower Points.]

Everyone knew the assessment had four evaluation tiers: "Pass," "Acceptable," "Excellent," and the highest tier, "Astounding."

The so-called "passing the assessment" was simply receiving the lowest-tier "Pass" evaluation.

Almost all the newcomers received this evaluation, with rewards fluctuating between 5 and 10 Black Tower Points. Very few received more than 10.

Even so, smiles appeared on the faces of many newcomers.

However, most eyes kept darting toward the boy and girls across from them.

Even a fool could tell that the team to take the crown this time would undoubtedly be this previously unremarkable squad.

All sorts of speculation arose, as incessant as the chirping of insects on a summer night.

"I wonder what evaluation Anya and her team got?"

"At least ’Acceptable,’ right?"

"Are you kidding? ’Acceptable’ gets you half a ton of spoils? It has to be ’Excellent,’ at least!"

Sitt stood rooted to the spot, his Sheepskin Boots still stained with dried mud, staring blankly at Mo Ning’s group of three.

He had thought that by leading his Battle Group through all the fighting, he would undoubtedly take the crown.

But the evaluation from his Guiding Ring was merely "Acceptable." The single word was like an invisible slap to the face, leaving him in a daze.

The mountain of spoils at their feet was even more of an eyesore; each item was like a fine needle, making his eyes ache.

In that moment, his confidence was utterly shattered.

Princess Phoebe’s perfectly beautiful face was also etched with profound shock.

The extraordinary perception granted by her bloodline allowed her to vaguely sense that Anya seemed particularly focused on the newcomer named Mo Ning.

She stared at Mo Ning for several long moments, not even blinking, carving his face into her memory.

Vino stood alone in a corner of the crowd. She looked much better than most of the other newcomers but was still somewhat haggard.

She had ventured into the wilds alone, expecting to have something to show for it, but it turned out she had greatly overestimated herself. She was lucky to have survived after several perilous encounters.

Vino’s gaze swept over Mo Ning and his companions, and she thought to herself, ’So it really is them.’

Back when she stood outside the Sanctuary, she had vaguely realized that this unremarkable little squad was the strongest among this year’s newcomers.

The scene before her now merely confirmed her suspicions.

「On the other side.」

Mo Ning was carefully reading the lengthy message from his Guiding Ring.

[Reward Notification: Serial No. 7-118-256, Mo Ning.]

[Your performance in the second group assessment, "Lost in the Wilds," was astounding. Reward: 100 Black Tower Points.]

[During the assessment, you displayed impressive creativity, extraordinary perception, a superb level of skill in Secret Techniques and Divination, and a dominant level of combat prowess. Your performance far surpassed all others, and you will receive the following additional rewards.]

The highest-tier evaluation was within his expectations, so Mo Ning wasn’t particularly surprised.

But those four follow-up commendations landed like heavy hammer blows, one after another, on his heart.

’Impressive creativity—that obviously refers to my Triangular Wing.’

’Extraordinary perception—that must refer to how I always managed to pinpoint the monsters’ tracks and the clues to the Sanctuary.’

’Superb level of skill in Secret Techniques and Divination—that should be for my masterful application of them while opening the Sanctuary.’

’A dominant level of combat prowess—that must be a reflection of how I hunted one powerful creature after another, wielding lightning to suppress all who dared to defy me.’

These four commendations were exceptionally high, and they undoubtedly hinted at a mouth-wateringly generous reward.

The corners of Mo Ning’s mouth finally curled upward in a small, irrepressible smile.
