"Emm... we saved. Saving is the reason for all this," Faye said. She was done arranging the bags. She yanked the plastic zipper across th bag, her knuckles tight as she forced a flat, casual shrug. Her heart gave a hard thump against her ribs, her eyes darting away for just a split second.
On the other hand, Minny crawled over to his mama, wanting to be carried. The small boy yanked on Princess’s pant leg, his tiny fingers digging into the denim until she noticed him. Princess adjusted Leonny properly before picking Minny up as well. She slid the sleeping baby higher up against her collarbone with one smooth motion, then scooped up the crawling toddler with her free arm, balancing the extra weight on her hip without breaking her stare.
"Saving?" Princess asked. Her voice carried a sharp edge through the open room, her dark eyes narrowing down at the group.
"Yes. Saving... and a loan... Haley’s father loaned us some money to help with this place," Malo interrupted. He was trying to save Faye from lying because he knew she was bad at it. Whenever Faye lied, she blinked repeatedly, and Princess would easily catch on.
"A loan? Why ask for a loan when you could have asked me? I would have given it to you without expecting it back. How are you going to pay the money back? This place doesn’t even look like it’s getting any customers," Princess said. She shifted her leg on the mat, her alpha pressure building slightly in the tight space as her chest rose with a frustrated breath.
Faye glared at Malo. He had only made things worse because she had once told Princess she could handle the startup on her own and didn’t need her money. Her jaw tightened so hard her teeth ached, her gaze shooting virtual daggers straight into the side of the boy’s head.
"There’s no need for that, babe. It’s a group thing. And the rent had already been paid by the previous tenant, so it was easier for us to gather the money. But please don’t make this a big deal. Let’s just go home. Now that I’m not going to school anymore, I’ll be coming to work every day," Faye said. She stepped closer to her girlfriend, her touch gentle on Princess’s arm to make her drop the money talk.
"You’re going to school tomorrow. I told you, no dropping out. The principal cannot expel you without enough valid reasons, and even after the assault, she won’t be making any complaints," Princess said. She stood tall, her voice flat and absolute as she laid down the law for the morning.
Adam Kings had already fixed the problem. His wife wouldn’t be able to file a complaint about the beating she had received from an angry student. The school server had already been wiped, and the board members were already told to look the other way.
"Oh, that’s good to hear. Thank you, Pancake," Faye said with a smile. The knot in her stomach finally loosened, a bright, genuine grin taking over her face as she looked up into the alpha’s cute eyes.
That smile made Princess blush so much she almost dropped her sons, forgetting she was carrying both of them. She quickly adjusted them in her arms. She squeezed her arms tighter around the two boys to keep them steady.
"You’re welcome, babe," Princess replied, still blushing. She cleared her throat roughly, looking down at the floor to hide her face, then she looked at her girlfriend..
"Alright, alright. Faye is still coming to school, which I already knew because her bae is Princess Kings. But can we all just go home? My siblings are waiting for me," Malo said, breaking the romantic eye contact between the girls. He let out a loud, drawn-out sigh, tapping his sneakers impatiently against the floor.
Now he had made things worse.
Princess’s expression turned serious as she asked the question she had been meaning to ask.
"MG."
"Yes, Princess?" Malo answered,
"How did you break free?"
"Eh?"
"Alpha Asha said you were taken by a Lycan Prince. How did you escape from him?" Princess asked, her tone heavy and demanding.
The moment they heard that, Sasha and Haley, who had been quietly listening, casually slipped out of the gym, leaving Faye and Malo to answer the Alpha.
While Malo busily made up a story about how he had earned the Lycan Prince’s favor, who then set him free and asked for nothing in return, Faye loaded the pups into their car seats. She leaned deep into the back row of the car, her fingers clicking the plastic safety straps together with a rapid rhythm while her ears stayed locked on the conversation happening near the main doors. She pretended not to know anything while secretly eavesdropping on their conversation, her chest rising and falling with quick, anxious breaths while Malo spun some wild lies.
Then Malo dragged Faye into the story, saying she had also met the Lycan Prince. He left out the contract but still managed to involve his best friend in the chaos, yelling across the gym to point her out as a witness.
Princess eventually left the gym.
Malo, who was usually the last person to leave, stayed behind with Sensei, who watched over the gym and used it as a place to sleep. The old man was already setting up a small folding bed in the back office, his breathing regular and slow as he locked the front glass doors.
Malo later drove home in the van.
"You guys even have a van? Wow..." Princess said as she started the engine. She shifted the car into drive, her eyes watching the graffiti van through her rearview mirror as they pulled out onto the road.
"Malo bought it. You can ask him how," Faye replied, trying to avoid more questions. She leaned her head back against the leather seat, letting out a long, heavy breath as she watched the dashboard lights glow.
"I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you met a Lycan." Princess muttered,
"I would’ve told you, but you wanted us to have some romantic alone time at the hotel," Faye said. She reached out, her fingers resting lightly against Princess’s shoulder to calm her down.
"You still could’ve mentioned it the next day... or this morning."
"Sorry. Next time, I’ll remember to tell you important information. Can we stop by the convenience store? We need to restock some stuff since we’re all out," Faye said. She looked out the side window at the passing streetlights, her stomach letting out a loud growl.
"Okay."
"And after that, can we get pizza for dinner?"
Princess stayed quiet and drove toward the convenience store.
