Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Surprise and Scare
’If I don’t take it out, I’ll have to watch my back in this forest every single day.’
’Even a tiger dozes off sometimes. One moment of carelessness and I’m finished.’
And so, Long Ming was determined to kill this thing.
「Over half an hour later.」
Long Ming chased the monster halfway up the mountainside, where he suddenly lost its trail.
To his right was a steep cliff, and to his left, there was only a single path leading up the mountain.
Just as Long Ming was about to follow the path uphill, he suddenly stopped.
He gripped his Carbine and walked toward the cliff’s edge, carefully examining the ground.
Soon, Long Ming spotted a drop of dark red blood on the edge of the cliff.
"Clever bastard."
Long Ming then peered over the cliff.
That’s when he noticed a wide, jutting platform below.
After a look, Long Ming turned to leave, but he stopped after just a few steps. He then returned to the edge and looked down again.
He stared at the jutting platform, his brow furrowed.
’This platform doesn’t look natural,’ Long Ming thought. ’But it’s too dark to see clearly.’
He mulled it over for a moment and decided to wait there.
Time trickled by.
Finally, the sun rose over the horizon, and the light of dawn spread across the land.
Long Ming could finally see the platform below clearly. Although it was covered in soil and weeds, he could tell at a glance that it wasn’t natural.
He decisively pulled a nylon rope from his backpack, tied it to a rock at the cliff’s edge, and began to climb down.
THUMP!
Long Ming landed steadily on the jutting platform, and a hidden passageway immediately came into view.
"Just as I thought. An unexpected bonus, huh?"
Long Ming gave a wry smile, gripping his Carbine as he cautiously felt his way inside.
The passage was pitch-black. Long Ming could barely see, relying on his Red Ghost mask.
He soon reached the end, where an open iron door appeared before him.
He stepped inside cautiously, and his view suddenly opened up.
A massive, square hall stretched out before him.
Just then, Long Ming noticed a switch on the wall and reached out to flip it up.
CHUNK!
Row after row of emergency lights flickered on.
In an instant, weapon racks and crates filled his vision.
"Whoa!"
Long Ming was stunned. ’I can’t believe I found a weapons depot.’
Unfortunately, most of the racks were empty. Only a few still had items on them.
Long Ming walked over to one of the racks. On it were several strangely shaped automatic rifles with long, triangular bodies.
He picked one up to test its feel. It was awkward and very uncomfortable to handle.
BZZZT!
A notification popped up on Long Ming’s wristband.
SAC-01 Automatic Rifle.
Durability: 99/100
Chambered: 6.12mm ammunition
After reading the information, Long Ming put the rifle back and continued searching deeper inside.
He then saw several weapon crates up ahead, so he walked over and pried one open.
Metal spheres filled his vision.
Long Ming picked up one of the metal spheres, and his wristband immediately displayed a notification.
"Spin Grenade."
After reading the prompt, Long Ming carefully examined the Spin Grenade in his hand.
The grenade was perfectly round and surprisingly heavy.
But what puzzled Long Ming was that it had no pin. He had no idea how to use it.
Then he noticed an arrow symbol in the middle of the sphere. If he wasn’t mistaken, the grenade was made of two interlocking halves that could be twisted apart like a bottle cap.
’This isn’t very user-friendly.’
"Huuuh..."
Long Ming let out a long breath. Even though about eighty percent of the weapons and ammo had been cleared out, what remained was still an immense fortune to him.
But Long Ming didn’t let these things go to his head.
He took a few deep breaths to calm his racing heart, stuffed two Spin Grenades into the side pockets of his backpack, and continued his search.
Long Ming’s objective was firm: first, kill the monster. He could figure out the rest later.
As he passed through the rows of weapon racks, he saw various pieces of machinery.
Long Ming glanced at the equipment but didn’t stop, continuing his search deeper inside.
Soon, he reached the far end of the hall. A small hill made of piled-up black ore came into view, its surface littered with bone fragments.
There, Long Ming saw the monster he had been chasing, lying weakly on top of the ore pile.
"Hmph. Let’s see you run now."
Long Ming raised his Carbine and advanced on the monster step by step.
A closer look revealed that the monster was severely injured. It looked like it was on the verge of death.
Just then, the dying creature let out a sudden cry.
A monster, five meters tall and resembling a ghoul, emerged from behind the pile of ore. Its entire body was covered in protruding red tumors, its claws glinted menacingly, and a pair of crimson eyes stared out from its deformed head, its mouth revealing sharp fangs.
Seeing this, Long Ming froze on the spot. He swallowed hard and took an involuntary step back.
"ROOOAR!"
The monster before him let out a deafening roar.
BZZZT!
A notification instantly appeared on Long Ming’s wristband.
Blood Breath Beast · Moruka (Auto-named)
Type: Unknown
At that moment, Moruka charged furiously toward Long Ming.
Long Ming decisively aimed at Moruka’s head and pulled the trigger.
BANG! BANG!
A dense spray of bullets struck its head, but while they broke the skin, the effect was minimal.
Moruka charged through the hail of bullets, lunging at Long Ming in a rage.
Long Ming dodged swiftly to the right.
Moruka missed, then quickly spun around and charged at Long Ming again.
Long Ming decisively pulled the trigger!
THOOM!
A grenade round shot out, hitting Moruka square in the head.
BOOM!
A huge explosion swept outward.
Moruka’s head was blasted black, and its body momentarily froze.
While retreating, Long Ming quickly pulled out another grenade round, loaded it, and bravely fired at Moruka’s head again.
KABOOM!
Moruka took another grenade hit and staggered back a step.
Long Ming reloaded rapidly, continuously firing grenades at Moruka’s head, forcing it back step by step with overwhelming firepower.
KABOOM! KABOOM!
Moruka’s head was hit again and again until it finally ruptured, dark red blood streaming down.
Just as Long Ming was about to press his advantage, he reached for another grenade on his tactical belt and came up empty.
’Crap!’
The color drained from Long Ming’s face.
"ROOOAR!"
Moruka let out an enraged roar and charged straight at Long Ming.
Long Ming decisively turned and ran, simultaneously pulling the pin on a grenade from his tactical belt and tossing it on the ground.
Just as Moruka was about to catch up to Long Ming...
KABOOM!
The high-explosive grenade detonated, engulfing its body in the blast.
Moruka’s body staggered once more.
Long Ming seized the opportunity to dash for the exit. ’Staying here to fight is certain death.’
’This monster is even more ridiculous than the one from the bug world.’
