Chapter 176: Chapter 176: Exoskeleton
Moruka showed no signs of letting Long Ming go and resumed its frenzied pursuit.
Long Ming continuously used the equipment and weapon racks along the path for cover, constantly weaving left and right.
BAM~
Moruka violently crashed through the equipment and weapon racks.
However, this also slowed it down.
Soon, Long Ming saw the exit, and his expression brightened.
Just then, however, Moruka charged forward, leaped, and landed with a thunderous BOOM right in front of the exit.
’Damn it.’
Long Ming couldn’t help but back away.
With its crimson eyes locked on Long Ming, Moruka closed in step by step.
Long Ming’s expression shifted as he furtively reached for the flashbang on his tactical belt.
The instant Moruka charged, Long Ming decisively pulled the pin on a flashbang and threw it.
BANG~
A blinding white light erupted.
"AWOOOO~"
Moruka clutched its eyes in pain.
In fact, as a Blood Breath Beast, Moruka possessed powerful natural night vision. This made it extremely sensitive to light, even slightly photophobic. The glare from the flashbang was an intense irritant to its eyes.
The shock instantly sent Moruka into a frenzy.
Seizing the opportunity, Long Ming dashed behind some massive equipment to hide.
As Moruka’s vision returned, it angrily whipped its head around, searching for any sign of Long Ming.
But it couldn’t see him, so it began to move, hunting for him.
Long Ming listened for Moruka’s movements, cautiously adjusting his position to avoid being found.
Just then, Moruka walked right past his hiding spot.
Seeing his chance, Long Ming hurried toward the exit.
Just then, however, Moruka suddenly reversed course. It leaped onto a piece of equipment and began scanning its surroundings.
Fortunately, Long Ming had frozen in place, pressing himself flat against the equipment.
Time ticked by, second by second.
The two were locked in a stalemate inside the storeroom.
Long Ming grew increasingly anxious. ’If this drags on any longer,’ he thought, ’I’m definitely going to be the one who dies.’
He had to find a way to escape. The problem was that Moruka, unable to find him, was now just prowling around the exit.
Seeing that the way to the exit was blocked, Long Ming turned his head, looking around for another escape route.
He then spotted a door at the far end of the area to his right. It looked like it could be an exit.
After a moment of deliberation, Long Ming made his decision. He pulled a smoke grenade from his tactical belt.
He pulled the pin and hurled the grenade toward the main exit.
The smoke grenade landed on the floor.
HISS~
Releasing thick clouds of smoke.
Seeing the smoke, Moruka assumed Long Ming was making a break for the exit and immediately charged toward it.
Long Ming seized the chance and sprinted for the door on his right.
When he burst through the doorway, he found himself in a manufacturing room.
It was filled with piles of semi-finished materials and rows of mechanical equipment.
Long Ming was stunned. It wasn’t an exit after all.
But there was no use dwelling on it now. His only option was to press forward and see if he could find another passage.
Unfortunately, reality was cruel.
Long Ming soon reached the end of the manufacturing room. He saw no other exits, only an equipment rack.
On the rack sat a suit of cool-looking exoskeletal mechanical armor, constructed from black metal, with a skull emblem branded on its chest.
Long Ming was stunned to see the armor. He subconsciously raised his wrist device to scan it.
Lines of information popped up.
MSC-01 Single-Trooper Exoskeletal Combat Suit: Night Ghost.
Long Ming’s expression flickered. He immediately shed his outer gear, stepped forward, and began to don the exoskeletal armor.
CLICK~
One by one, the components locked into place on his body.
Soon, Long Ming was wearing the full Night Ghost exoskeletal combat suit and had donned the helmet.
A virtual interface materialized before his eyes, displaying: Power Remaining: 30%.
The Night Ghost’s helmet was equipped with functions such as night vision and thermal imaging.
Long Ming moved around a little and found that his body felt incredibly light, and his Power had been amplified.
He was immediately fond of the suit. ’Unfortunately, there’s no way I can beat that monster with just this,’ he thought. ’At best, I can probably survive one hit instead of dying on contact.’
But Long Ming wasn’t giving up. He put his discarded gear, including the Red Ghost mask, into his backpack. Then he shouldered the pack, raised the Carbine in his hands, and with a newly sharpened gaze, walked toward the entrance of the manufacturing room.
When Long Ming reached the door, he cautiously peeked his head out. After confirming that Moruka wasn’t nearby, he carefully slipped out.
He once again crept behind a piece of equipment, cautiously searching for any sign of Moruka.
But a full scan of the area revealed nothing. It wasn’t even near the exit.
Just as Long Ming was wondering what was going on...
Suddenly, a drop of blood splattered on the ground in front of him.
The color drained from Long Ming’s face.
At that moment, a figure lunged down from the ceiling.
Long Ming leaped, clearing a distance of six or seven meters.
BAM~
Moruka’s pounce hit nothing but air.
Long Ming was momentarily stunned himself—he hadn’t expected such a massive boost from the combat suit. He immediately spun around, raised his Carbine, and opened fire on Moruka.
BANG BANG~
Each bullet struck Moruka’s body, but the slugs simply flattened and fell to the ground, having little effect.
Moruka glared ferociously at Long Ming.
Long Ming swallowed hard.
’This is bad. My weapon can’t even scratch it, and I’m out of high-explosive grenades and shells.’
Just as Long Ming was feeling cornered, he suddenly remembered the rotary grenades in the side pouches of his backpack.
He immediately pulled one out, armed it with a twist, and hurled it at Moruka.
THUD~
The rotary grenade struck Moruka, bounced off, and rolled to the side.
"Shit!"
Long Ming’s face darkened. ’This thing is a pain in the ass to use,’ he thought.
Just then, a deafening BOOM echoed as a massive explosion erupted.
Both Moruka and Long Ming were startled by it.
Long Ming instantly understood. ’So it has a timer! About five seconds.’
Enraged, Moruka charged at Long Ming.
Long Ming turned and fled, simultaneously pulling out his last rotary grenade. He armed it, counted down the seconds, and threw it at the pursuing Moruka.
BOOM~
The blast hit Moruka head-on, and it let out a pained howl.
Long Ming glanced back and saw that the explosion had torn a wound in Moruka’s body. His eyes lit up. ’These rotary grenades are incredibly powerful!’
He immediately sprinted toward the weapon crate full of rotary grenades.
Moruka recovered and gave desperate chase.
Long Ming reached the weapon crate in a flash, scooped up an armful of rotary grenades, and took off running.
"ROAR~"
Moruka roared again and again as it rapidly closed the distance to Long Ming.
Long Ming was starting to gasp for breath.
’This is bad,’ Long Ming thought. He was finally feeling the side effects of his genetic defect. Normally, his Physical Strength wasn’t this poor. ’If this were a game, I wouldn’t be winded this fast.’
Seeing he couldn’t outrun it, a look of grim resolve flashed across Long Ming’s face. He decisively armed a rotary grenade, tossed it into the weapon crate, and slammed the lid shut.
Just then, Moruka caught up. With a powerful push from its hind legs, it lunged, its cavernous, bloody maw gaping open to bite down on Long Ming.
"Die!"
Long Ming spun around and hurled the entire weapon crate straight into Moruka’s open mouth, then threw himself into a desperate leap.
CRUNCH!
Moruka’s jaws snapped shut on the crate.
KABOOM~
A massive explosion erupted, instantly engulfing Moruka. A spray of flesh and blood was swept outward by the immense shockwave.
Even Long Ming couldn’t escape, and he too was sent flying by the blast, slamming hard onto the ground.
"Ugh."
Long Ming let out a painful groan, then lay motionless, face down on the floor.
