Chapter 190: Chapter 190: Give It a Try
Long Ming couldn’t tell them the truth about this yet. It would only cause trouble.
’And the Pomide Clan Leader must really see me as some high-ranking member of Mountain City Mountain to ask me to persuade them. But where would I get that kind of influence?’
"Lord Long Ming, why aren’t you saying anything?"
When the Pomide Clan Leader saw Long Ming remain silent, he grew anxious, fearing a refusal.
Long Ming sighed, putting on a troubled expression as he spoke to the Pomide Clan Leader.
"Pomide Clan Leader, I understand the situation. I will do my best to persuade them, but I can’t guarantee they will listen."
"Understood. I’m counting on you, then."
Seeing that Long Ming had agreed, the Pomide Clan Leader breathed a sigh of relief.
He knew this couldn’t immediately halt Mountain City Mountain’s suicidal actions, but he believed that once they suffered a few more losses against the Blood Breath Beasts, Long Ming’s persuasion might just be the final push they needed to see reason.
"Don’t mention it."
"Then I’ll be on my way."
"Take care."
Long Ming watched the Pomide Clan Leader depart, then raised his wristband and scanned the data disk in his hand.
BZZT—
A prompt immediately popped up from the wristband.
Confidential Data Disk
Grade: Orange
Description: Contains a large amount of internal data.
Prompt: Read?
Long Ming was delighted. He hadn’t expected the data disk to be Orange-grade. He tapped his wristband to confirm the read.
"Read successful. Congratulations on unlocking the Aninka World Map."
The wristband displayed another prompt.
Long Ming hurriedly opened the map. The entire world map unfolded before him, dotted with over a thousand different markers.
Long Ming examined the map carefully and soon found his current location, a flicker of surprise crossing his face.
’No wonder the Pomide Clan Leader and his people haven’t been wiped out. So they’re hiding in the mountain ranges at the continent’s edge.’
Next, Long Ming tried searching the map for the most powerful nation, the Aniska Empire, and found it right away.
The nation was located right in the center of the continent, with an enormous territory.
After looking over the map, Long Ming opened the file on the Blood Breath Beasts. Dense arrays of images and detailed information popped up.
As he looked at the files, his heart gave a slight lurch, and he immediately began to read carefully.
There’s a saying: know your enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles without defeat.
He had nearly been outsmarted by the monster before precisely because he hadn’t understood the Blood Breath Beast’s traits. To make the same mistake twice would be sheer stupidity.
...
「The next day.」
Long Ming was in an open area of the plaza, leisurely reading the data on the Blood Breath Beasts.
All around him, players had set up stalls on the ground and were shouting with great enthusiasm.
"Selling high-level weapons, fresh from the ruins! They pack a real punch!"
"Buying intel on the ruins! Paying top dollar!"
"Fierce Tiger Team looking for experts to explore the ruins! Compensation negotiable!"
...
Just then, Rein walked over from a distance.
He looked at the shouting people as if they were a bunch of idiots, not knowing what to say. He could only sigh in resignation.
"Sigh..."
Just then, Long Ming saw Rein approaching, so he shut off his wristband, walked up, and greeted him with a smile.
"Rein, why the long face?"
Rein replied to Long Ming with exasperation.
"Brother, don’t get me wrong. I truly admire your courage and fearlessness. But this group? It’s like they’ve all been kicked in the head by a donkey. They’ve all swarmed here thinking they can defeat the Blood Breath Beasts, explore the ruins, and get rich quick."
"That’s normal. Where are you off to?"
Long Ming asked with a chuckle.
"Just got off my shift. I had some free time and thought I’d come chat with you."
"Sounds good."
"Come on. Let’s head to the disassembly rig first. I need to get out of this Butcher heavy-exoskeleton armor."
Rein led Long Ming away from the plaza.
Soon, the two arrived at a tunnel entrance in the side of the mountain.
Soldiers stood guard here. Upon seeing Rein, they immediately and respectfully cleared a path.
Rein led Long Ming inside. The tunnel walls were cast from metal, with rows of lights on the ceiling. Every 20 meters, there was a thick blast door.
"Not bad," Long Ming said in amazement. "Don’t tell me you guys hollowed out the entire mountain?"
"Pretty much," Rein nodded. "This base cost us a massive amount of manpower and resources. You could call it the largest sanctuary we’ve ever built."
Soon, they reached the end of the tunnel, and the space suddenly opened up before them.
A vast, rectangular hall came into view.
The hall was filled with numerous elevator platforms.
Rein led Long Ming to one of the elevator platforms at the edge of the hall and placed his hand on a mechanical console.
"Authorization recognized. Commencing descent!"
KLUNK!
The entire platform began to sink downward.
Several minutes later, the platform came to a stop.
They had arrived in a vast, empty hangar. Rein stepped off the elevator and walked onto a mechanical platform.
Instantly, the ceiling cracked open, and numerous mechanical arms extended downward, beginning to disassemble the Butcher exoskeleton from Rein’s body. Soon, his incredibly powerful physique was revealed, showing off muscles like steel.
Rein smiled and explained to Long Ming.
"This suit of mine is a heavy-exoskeleton model. It requires external assistance to be removed."
"This suit looks incredible!"
"It’s decent. Want to give it a try?"
"Can I?"
Long Ming asked, pleasantly surprised.
"Of course, you can. But your build is a bit too slender for this heavy armor. We’ll need to swap out the inner components."
Rein replied with a smile.
"Won’t that be a lot of trouble?"
"Not at all."
"Then I’ll have to trouble you."
Long Ming didn’t stand on ceremony any longer and walked straight onto the mechanical platform.
"It’s nothing."
Rein walked over to a nearby control panel, entered some commands to swap out the heavy armor’s internal components, and then initiated the fitting sequence.
Mechanical arms extended, fitting the various parts of the exoskeleton armor onto Long Ming’s body.
An interface immediately popped up in Long Ming’s field of view.
"Training Mode activated. You have been temporarily granted control authority."
At that moment, Rein said to Long Ming,
"Don’t be nervous. Even though this armor weighs 1,000 kg, the power-assist system means it won’t put too much strain on your body!"
"So how do I control it?"
"This kind of exoskeleton armor has sensors all over the interior that capture your limb movements. So, you just need to move normally. Of course, you need to pay attention to your center of gravity. After all, you’re not just a person anymore; you’re a giant of steel."
"Got it."
Under Rein’s guidance, Long Ming controlled the exoskeleton armor and took a few steps forward.
"Very good. Now let’s try moving faster..."
Rein patiently taught Long Ming the most basic control methods.
「Several hours later.」
Long Ming had successfully learned the basic controls, able to run and jump freely, and even execute some simple attack maneuvers.
"How does it feel?"
Rein asked with a smile.
