Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Clue
"No good. It’s too bulky. I don’t think it suits me."
Long Ming walked to the center of the mechanical platform and took off the gear.
"That’s normal. Someone with your build isn’t really suited for heavy-duty models. You’re a better fit for agility-based types."
"There are agility types?"
"Of course. The second-generation agility-based exoskeleton armor is also excellent."
Rein offered his professional advice.
"I’ll have to get my hands on a set when I get the chance. Thanks for the guidance, Rein."
"Don’t be a stranger."
"By the way, Rein, are you busy later?"
"Not really, no."
"How about I buy you a drink then?"
"I could, but where would we even get a drink?"
Rein was also completely puzzled.
Long Ming just smiled, then raised his wristband, opened the marketplace, and bought two bottles of white liquor, along with some peanuts, canned beef, and other snacks.
Seeing Long Ming conjure things out of his wristband, Rein asked with great curiosity.
"That wristband... it can’t be something your civilization can produce, can it?"
"You’re right. Like it?"
"I do."
"Then once Starry City reopens, I’ll teach you how to claim one."
Long Ming said with a smile.
Rein and his men hadn’t used the helmets to enter Starry City and establish their data, so they had no way of obtaining wristbands from the mechanical pillars.
"Alright, let’s go drink in my office!"
Rein said, turning around.
"Let’s go."
Long Ming followed Rein out.
「A moment later」
The two arrived in a very simple room.
The walls were lined with blood-stained axes, knives, hammers, and firearms of all models. In the center of the room sat an old wooden table and four wooden chairs.
"Whoa, so many weapons."
Long Ming gazed at the armaments hanging on the walls.
"Nothing much to look at. Please excuse the humble surroundings."
Rein and Long Ming walked to the desk and sat down.
Long Ming placed the food on the table, then opened the two bottles of white liquor, handing one to Rein.
"Here, take a swig!"
"Alright!"
Rein clinked his bottle against Long Ming’s and took a huge gulp. The fiery liquor flowed down into his stomach.
He couldn’t help but exclaim excitedly.
"Good stuff! I haven’t had any in years. This is so damn good!"
"Then let’s not stop until we’re drunk tonight."
Long Ming proposed with a smile.
"Deal."
Rein agreed heartily.
The two of them, snacking on peanuts and canned beef, downed an entire bottle of white liquor.
His face flushed red, Long Ming pulled out another bottle and handed it to Rein.
By now, Rein was also feeling the alcohol. He twisted off the cap, chugged half the bottle in one go, and shouted in exhilaration.
"Awesome!"
"Brother Rein, uh, I have a favor to ask, but I’m not sure if I should."
Long Ming asked with a grin.
"What’s with the formality? Just spit it out!"
The alcohol was getting to Rein, and he spoke to Long Ming directly.
"I saw how strong you were in battle. I was wondering if you could teach me some combat techniques."
Long Ming asked shamelessly.
"Brother! To be honest, if anyone else asked me to teach them, I’d definitely say no. But back when we were in our darkest hour, you were the one who brought your people to support us without a second thought. We fought side-by-side, and from that moment on, we became brothers! This is a combat manual I wrote myself, along with an operation manual for the exoskeleton mechanical armor. They’re yours!"
Rein pulled out two manuals and handed them to Long Ming.
"Thank you so much."
Long Ming accepted them with immense gratitude.
"You’re being too formal."
"By the way, Rein, your Power is so strong. Did you inject a Genetic Potion?"
Long Ming asked next.
"That’s right. I injected a Type-I Genetic Potion."
Rein told Long Ming frankly.
"You guys produce Type-I Genetic Potions here?"
Hearing this, Long Ming’s heart began to race, and he asked excitedly.
"No. In our world, only the Aniska Empire has managed to develop Genetic Potions by researching Blood Breath Beasts. My Genetic Potion was purchased from the Ansi Empire by our Clan Leader, and it’s not even the best kind—just an export version."
Rein explained to Long Ming.
"So, you’re saying there should be more Genetic Potions within the Aniska Empire, right?"
"Definitely. Especially in the highest-level secret laboratory in the Aniska capital, Dark Crow. They have everything!"
"I see. Thank you so much."
Long Ming said gratefully. He finally had a lead on Genetic Potions.
"No need to thank me. Actually, I have something to trouble you with as well."
"Go ahead, Rein."
"The truth is, I came to find you today for a reason. Although we’ve joined your Mountain City Mountain, to put it bluntly, your higher-ups have indeed given us a fair amount of supplies, but the amount is strictly rationed. Plus, your people are constantly finding excuses to ask us for data and technology, only willing to give us a trickle of supplies each time we hand something over. That’s no way to treat family."
Rein told Long Ming bluntly.
"Heh..."
Long Ming looked extremely embarrassed, not knowing what to say.
"So I wanted to ask you, brother, to help us secretly procure a batch of food and medicine."
Rein asked of Long Ming.
"That’s a bit difficult. Mountain City Mountain’s controls on this are very strict. But give me some time. I’ll find an opportunity to get it for you!"
Long Ming thought for a moment before replying.
"Then we’re counting on you. You’re the only one we can trust now!"
Rein said, filled with emotion.
"Understood. Let’s not talk about unpleasant things. Tonight, we drink our fill."
In a great mood, Long Ming bought a whole case of white liquor from his wristband.
"You’re a real one! Come on, let’s drink!"
Rein was also extremely excited.
For so many years, he had been fighting on deadly battlefields, his nerves stretched to the breaking point. Today, he could finally let loose.
And so, the two of them drank and chatted.
...
「The next afternoon」
Long Ming woke up with a groggy head.
A simple room came into view.
’Where am I?’
Long Ming slowly sat up, shaking his head to clear it. ’I was too happy yesterday,’ he thought. ’I drank so much I blacked out.’
KNOCK KNOCK~
A knock sounded at the door.
"Come in,"
Long Ming said.
Kariid opened the door, came in, and said to Long Ming.
"Lord Long Ming, you’re finally awake."
"Mm, where is this?"
"This is my room. You got drunk yesterday, so Legion Commander Rein arranged for you to stay here."
"Alright. Sorry to have troubled you. I’ll be going now."
"Lord Long Ming, won’t you eat something before you go?"
"No, I still have things to do."
"Then I’ll see you out."
"Okay!"
Long Ming then followed Kariid out.
「A moment later」
Long Ming sat at the edge of the square, pondering his next move.
’This Legion Commander Rein is a pretty good guy, to be honest. He’s incredibly loyal. Not only did he give me guidance, but he also gave me a lead on the Genetic Potion.’
’Now that he’s asking for my help, I should lend him a hand. It’ll raise my standing with Rein, which will definitely be helpful later on.’
Thinking of this, he raised his wristband, opened the friends interface, and sent a message to Xiaopang.
"You there?"
"I’m here! Big Bro, where are you?"
Xiaopang replied excitedly.
"I’m in Bukeao City."
"Oh, that aboriginal city."
"Mhm, I have a job for you."
Long Ming said coolly.
"Whatever you say, Big Bro."
"You should still have money on your end, right?"
"I do. I still have the 130 million you gave me."
"Good. Take 100 million Uni-credits, and use the money to procure a batch of food. Remember to do it secretly."
"That’s easy. With Uni-credits, it’s a piece of cake!"
"After you’ve bought the food, come find me. Don’t let anyone spot you."
"No problem."
Xiaopang replied with confidence.
