Chapter 195: Saturation Strike

Chapter 195: Chapter 195: Saturation Strike

Long Ming climbed down from the signal tower, his expression grim.

He pulled out the simple map Rein had given him and began to study it. The entire royal city ruins were now swarming with Blood Breath Beasts, with the highest concentration entrenched in the central district.

The problem was, the underground base Rein had marked on the map was right in that central district.

However, Long Ming soon discovered that Rein had specially marked a secret passage on the map.

The entrance to this secret passage was on the left side of the central district. If he wasn’t mistaken, it had to be an emergency escape route.

’Perfect. I can get in from there.’

At this thought, a brilliant smile spread across Long Ming’s face. He immediately put the map away and cautiously made his way toward the royal city.

「Over an hour later.」

Long Ming appeared at the mouth of a small alley facing the street inside the royal city ruins.

He cautiously poked his head out to take a look.

The concrete roads were stained red with blood. The burnt-out frames of cars were scattered everywhere. Lampposts had toppled over, lying messily by the roadside. The display windows of the shops on both sides were shattered, with shards of glass littering the ground and shelves inside knocked over in disarray.

"ROAR!"

A Blood Breath Dog was on the street, rummaging through the skeletal remains on the ground and gnawing on them.

Long Ming slowly pulled back, then took a detour to avoid the Blood Breath Dog.

It wasn’t that he was afraid of the Blood Breath Dog. He just had to avoid the monsters as much as possible and not make too much noise. If he attracted a large number of them, he’d be a dead man.

Like a man dancing on a razor’s edge, Long Ming’s nerves were stretched to their absolute limit as he crept, inch by inch, toward the secret passage’s entrance.

Just then, a vicious, low growl sounded from behind him.

Long Ming’s expression tightened as he whipped his head around.

A 1.5-meter-long Blood Breath Dog emerged from the corner behind him.

Gazing at the Blood Breath Dog, he reached for his tactical belt and drew the Death’s Fang.

"ROAR!"

The Blood Breath Dog charged toward Long Ming with incredible speed.

Long Ming narrowed his eyes, activated his Night Ghost’s power-assist, and shot forward to meet it with a powerful stomp.

In the next instant, the Blood Breath Dog lunged at Long Ming.

CRUNCH!

Long Ming precisely stabbed his blade into the Blood Breath Dog’s heart.

The Blood Breath Dog let out an unwilling whine before collapsing to the ground, dead.

Long Ming pulled out the Death’s Fang, breathed a small sigh of relief, and continued to make his way toward the secret passage.

Meanwhile, in the outskirts beyond the royal city, rows of 152mm self-propelled howitzers were lined up neatly, their elevations rapidly being adjusted. One after another, crates of artillery shells were opened, removed, and loaded.

Soon, all the self-propelled artillery pieces were ready.

Adika immediately reported to Qian Luobing with a grim and severe expression.

"Reporting! All preparations are complete!"

"Fire saturation!"

Qian Luobing gave the order icily with a wave of her hand.

WHOOSH!

A dense barrage of shells shot forth, descending upon the royal city ruins like a rainstorm.

Just then, Long Ming heard a strange sound and instinctively looked up. He was greeted by the sight of artillery shells raining down toward him.

"You’ve got to be kidding me."

Long Ming’s heart lurched. Forgetting all about stealth, he bolted straight forward!

BOOM! RUMBLE RUMBLE~

Shell after shell landed and exploded near him.

Dilapidated buildings collapsed with thunderous roars, sending fragments of stone flying against his body.

Long Ming’s face was as dark as it could be. He relied on pure instinct to dodge continuously, but the saturation strike showed no signs of stopping.

Although most of the firepower was concentrated on the city center, the bombardment frequency in other areas was by no means low.

In an instant, a shell came hurtling down right on top of him.

Long Ming sensed mortal danger. Adrenaline flooded his system as he leaped forward with all his might!

BOOM!

The shell detonated right behind him.

The massive shockwave sent Long Ming flying, and he crashed heavily to the ground.

"Agh!"

Long Ming groaned in pain on the ground.

After a long moment, he slowly pushed himself back up.

Although his mechanical exoskeleton armor had absorbed a great deal of the damage, he had still been hit hard by the blast.

Fortunately, he hadn’t taken a direct hit from a shell. Otherwise, not even the Night Ghost could have saved him.

Just then, the saturation strike gradually subsided, and Long Ming hurried toward the entrance of the secret passage.

「Outside the royal city.」

Qian Luobing spoke in a cold voice.

"Advance."

Heavy tanks—the sixty-ton, 152mm caliber, gray-armored "Earth Bears"—began to roll toward the royal city ruins, supported by infantry.

They soon ran into the surviving Blood Breath Beasts.

The Earth Bear tanks slowly turned their turrets and fired directly at the larger Blood Breath Beasts.

BOOM! RUMBLE RUMBLE~

One after another, Blood Breath Beasts were blasted into shredded meat.

The Earth Bear tanks then advanced at high speed, barbarically crushing any smaller Blood Breath Beasts they encountered.

The vast and mighty force pushed aggressively into the royal city.

...

Meanwhile, a battered Long Ming rushed to a church in the southwestern part of the royal city.

Inside this church stood a small statue of the God of Light, and the entrance to the secret passage was right underneath it.

But when Long Ming reached the church, he was completely dumbfounded!

The massive church had been bombed into a pile of rubble, and the entrance to the passage was completely buried.

Looking at the scene, the corner of Long Ming’s mouth twitched. ’When it rains, it pours.’

He knew the Third Legion was conducting a military operation, but he never expected them to be so extravagant as to open with a saturation strike.

This combat style was completely different from his impression of them; in fact, it was identical to the way the First Legion operated.

But it was too late to complain now.

Just as Long Ming was racking his brain over what to do next, a low growl suddenly sounded from behind him.

"GRRROWL..."

Long Ming’s body instantly stiffened, and he turned around.

An elite-class Blood Breath Beast—a Blood Hunter—was approaching. It stood three meters tall with a five-meter-long body, a cone-shaped head, a mouth full of sharp fangs, and a body covered in raised red bumps.

Looking closely, however, he could see that a large chunk of the Blood Breath Beast’s right side had been blasted away, exposing the dark red biological tissue within.

If he had to guess, the Blood Hunter had likely been hit by an artillery shell and was seriously injured.

However, it was now clearly treating Long Ming as its attacker.

For a moment, Long Ming was speechless. ’Trouble never comes alone.’

But since things had come to this, Long Ming didn’t waste a single word. He immediately took the SAC-01 model automatic rifle slung on his backpack and aimed it at the Blood Hunter.

"ROAR!"

The Blood Hunter charged straight at Long Ming.

BANG! BANG!

Long Ming fired in quick bursts.

The dense spray of bullets struck the Blood Hunter, sending flesh and blood flying.

The Blood Hunter didn’t stop its attack. Instead, it braved the hail of bullets and charged ferociously toward Long Ming.

Long Ming timed it perfectly. Just as the Blood Hunter was about to reach him, he leaped sideways to dodge, performing several rolls on the ground.

Then he pulled out a spinning grenade, cooked it for a second, and threw it.

BOOM! RUMBLE RUMBLE~

A massive explosion engulfed the Blood Hunter.

The Blood Hunter’s body froze for an instant, and it let out a pained wail.

At that moment, Long Ming pushed off the ground to get up quickly. He deftly changed his magazine and began firing at the Blood Hunter while backing away.

BANG! BANG!

The enraged Blood Hunter leaped into the air, pouncing toward Long Ming.

But Long Ming didn’t run. Instead, he met it head-on, executing a slide tackle that sent him sliding right under the pouncing Blood Hunter.
