Chapter 196: Level the Cannons

Chapter 196: Chapter 196: Level the Cannons

Long Ming scrambled to his feet, spun around, and opened fire on the Blood Hunter Beast’s rear leg joint.

CRACK!

The Blood Hunter Beast’s rear leg snapped instantly. Its body lurched to one side, and it crashed to the ground.

Long Ming pulled a spinner grenade from his belt, armed it, and threw it over.

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted.

"URGH..."

With a final, defiant growl, the Blood Hunter Beast collapsed.

After finishing the beast off, Long Ming showed no joy. Instead, his expression was grim as he pulled out a map to study it.

He was trying to see if there were any other entrances to the underground base.

Unfortunately, the map was perfectly clear. The underground base had only two ways in or out. Other than this secret escape tunnel, the only option was the main entrance.

Now Long Ming was in a bind.

The main entrance was in the central district, and that area was extremely dangerous.

’Forget it. Fortune favors the bold.’

Long Ming sighed, then turned and sprinted toward the central district.

...

「Falaken Royal City, Central Avenue.」

The remaining Blood Breath Beasts swarmed Qian Luobing’s troops in a frenzy.

BOOM! BOOM!

Shells and a dense hail of bullets rained down!

BOOM!

Blood Breath Beast after Blood Breath Beast was blasted into the air.

Then, the Earth Bear tanks crushed their corpses under their treads.

Qian Luobing led her troops, carving a path toward the center of the royal city.

Soon after, they arrived outside the ruined royal palace.

An Earth Bear tank smashed through the perimeter wall and barreled inside.

They soon reached the entrance to the underground base inside the palace. The opening wasn’t very large; the tanks couldn’t possibly fit through.

"Ma’am, we’ve arrived. All monsters have been cleared."

Adika said respectfully to Qian Luobing.

"It’s not that simple. Blood Breath Beasts from all over are converging on our position!"

Jiang Huai added, frowning as he looked at the screen of his drone controller.

"So, are we exploring the underground base first, or are we cleaning up these damn monsters?"

Bakaen asked impatiently.

Qian Luobing leaped down from the tank and spoke, her voice cold.

"Bakaen, you take the tank unit and deal with the Blood Breath Beasts closing in. Everyone else, with me. We’re going down to explore."

"Yes, ma’am!"

Bakaen and the others replied in unison.

Qian Luobing led Adika and the others through the main entrance to the underground base.

...

Meanwhile, Long Ming arrived, panting slightly.

As he entered the royal palace and neared the entrance to the underground base, he froze on the spot.

He saw five hundred fully armed soldiers guarding the entrance, led by none other than Captains Zou Wen and Xie Huai.

For a moment, Long Ming was speechless.

’I can’t believe the Third Legion is after the underground base too.’

’This is big trouble. If they find the secret vault, my gear is as good as gone.’

The thought was a bitter one, and Long Ming wasn’t ready to give up.

But with so many soldiers guarding the entrance, sneaking in was out of the question.

’Screw it. I’ll risk it.’

After a moment of shifting expressions, Long Ming steeled himself and walked openly toward them.

Zou Wen and Xie Huai spotted Long Ming immediately, and the muscles in their faces couldn’t help but twitch.

"Hey!"

Long Ming forced a smile, raising a hand in greeting as he tried to think of what to say.

But Zou Wen and Xie Huai simply turned their heads away, pointedly ignoring him.

Seeing they had no intention of stopping him, Long Ming was secretly overjoyed and quickened his pace to get inside.

Zou Wen turned to Xie Huai and asked worriedly.

"Are we really just going to let him go in like that?"

"What, you want to stop him? So he can start yelling for the Vice Legion Commander again? My heart can’t take it."

Xie Huai replied, still shaken by the memory.

"You’re right. I nearly pissed myself a minute ago. I really thought I was a dead man."

Zou Wen nodded vigorously.

...

「Underground Base, Main Passageway.」

Long Ming moved forward cautiously. The walls and floor of the entire passage were cast from metal, and they were covered in bloodstains. The air was thick with a foul, coppery stench.

The emergency lights on the walls were still on; the base hadn’t lost power.

Gripping his weapon, Long Ming continued forward. He passed the corpses of Blood Breath Beasts and heard constant gunfire and explosions from up ahead. Clearly, the main unit was clearing the way.

He crept forward cautiously.

Before long, he spotted Qian Luobing and her team. They were busy gunning down the Blood Breath Beasts they had disturbed.

Long Ming hung back, watching from cover while silently urging them on.

’Hurry up and fight!’

’I remember this part clearly,’ Long Ming thought. ’There’s a crossroads in the main passage up ahead. Once they clear past that intersection, I can slip away to the secret vault.’

Time trickled by.

Soon, Qian Luobing had fought her way to the crossroads with her team.

"Ma’am, what are our orders?"

Adika and the others all looked to Qian Luobing.

"We’ll split into two teams. Eric, take a squad down the right-hand passage to the armory. Everyone else, with me. Straight ahead to the central control room."

Qian Luobing gave the order decisively.

"Yes, ma’am!"

Eric immediately led a team down the right-hand passage.

Meanwhile, Qian Luobing continued clearing the path forward with the rest of her people.

After confirming they were a safe distance away, Long Ming slipped out from his hiding spot and headed for the entrance to the left passage. Sure enough, the information on Rein’s map was perfectly accurate.

The left passage led to the living quarters. ’They definitely wouldn’t prioritize exploring this area.’

Long Ming quickly turned into the left passage and made his way deeper inside.

The passage wasn’t very wide and the lighting was dim. He could see a series of open rooms along the way.

Ordinarily, Long Ming might have checked them out, but he ignored them now. Activating his Night Ghost’s thermal imaging, he cautiously crept toward the secret vault.

...

「Outside the Royal City Ruins, Third Legion Artillery Position.」

On a hill to the rear, a new beast emerged. It was Xue Li, a Lord Level Blood Breath Beast. Towering at six meters tall, it had a cone-shaped, lizard-like head with a mouth bristling with sharp teeth. Its body was covered in red, fleshy nodules, its claws were razor-sharp, and two long tails extended from its back.

Its scarlet eyes gazed at the billowing black smoke over the royal city ruins before shifting to the artillery position. It then threw its head back and let out a furious roar.

"ROAR!"

Down in the artillery position, the soldiers heard the roar from behind and whipped their heads around to look.

Their faces paled, and they cried out in shock.

"My God!"

The hill behind them was swarming with Blood Breath Beasts, covering it as far as the eye could see.

The next second, a Bloodthirsty Beast led a swarm of Blood Breath Beasts in a charge.

A man in a military uniform, his hair graying and his face deeply lined with wrinkles, roared an order.

"Quick! Traverse the guns! Level the barrels for direct fire!"

The soldiers scrambled to turn the traversing wheels, swinging the massive cannons around. One by one, their barrels were lowered to a flat trajectory.

The artillerymen quickly loaded the shells.

Captain Cai Xu couldn’t wait for the other guns to be loaded and gave the command directly.

"Fire!"

BOOM! BOOM!

Shell after shell blasted out.

KABOOM!

Swaths of the attacking Blood Breath Beasts were blown to pieces.

But there were simply too many Blood Breath Beasts charging, and the distance was too short.

The Blood Breath Beasts quickly broke through the barrage and closed in on the artillery position.

"What do we do, Captain Cai Xu?!"

a subordinate at his side asked anxiously.

"Quick! Break open all the ammo crates and chain them together!"

Cai Xu ordered immediately.

"Yes, sir!"

Hearing Cai Xu’s order, the men immediately complied.

Cai Xu pulled out a grenade and roared to his soldiers.

"Brothers! For Mountain City Mountain! We’ll take them with us!"

"RAH!"

The men roared in unison.

In the next second, a tide of Blood Breath Beasts washed over the artillery position.

"AHH!"

Soldier after soldier was pounced upon and mauled to death.

Just then, Cai Xu and his men tossed their grenades into the crates of shells.

KABOOOOOM!

A chain of countless explosions erupted, instantly engulfing the entire artillery position and the swarming Blood Breath Beasts.
