But even so, a horde of Blood Breath Beasts, their bodies wreathed in flames, still charged at them in a frenzy.
Soldiers with riot shields surged forward to meet them while the troops behind raised new-model machine guns and unleashed a frantic barrage.
One after another, the Blood Breath Beasts fell, unwilling to give up.
Eric and his men advanced toward the armory like an unstoppable force.
Soon, they had fought their way to the armory's entrance.
When they rushed into the one-hectare armory, they were stunned by the sight that greeted them.
"Whoa!"
...
The soldiers erupted in excited shouts.
Eric's gaze swept across the room, taking in row after row of weapon racks.
The racks were lined with all sorts of firearms, ammunition, and exoskeleton mechanical armor. More weapons were scattered across the floor—the variety and quantity were staggering.
'Just as I thought. Those previous inhabitants weren't lying. They must have fallen so fast they didn't even have time to take anything from the armory!'
Eric let out a sigh of relief. All the effort they'd spent fighting their way in hadn't been for nothing.
"Captain Eric, what are your orders?"
A soldier on the scene asked Eric excitedly.
"Arm yourselves with what's here. Swap out any gear you can and pack up all the weapons."
Eric gave the order to his subordinates without wasting a word.
"Yes, sir!"
The soldiers immediately rushed forward, grabbing exoskeleton mechanical armor and putting it on.
Meanwhile, Eric took a few of his trusted subordinates deeper into the armory, looking for any higher-grade equipment.
Unfortunately, as they went deeper, all they found was light equipment.
'Looks like the heavy weapons aren't here.'
But when Eric reached the back of the warehouse, he was met with the sight of ten circular metal platforms.
Eight of them were empty, but two had been left behind.
The platform on the left held a set of heavy exoskeleton mechanical armor—the 'Butcher' model, the same kind Legion Commander Rein used. On the right platform was a 2.5-meter-tall suit of light exoskeleton mechanical armor, the 'Wind Shadow,' constructed entirely from cyan metal with a glowing triangular aperture on its chest.
"Captain Eric, it's second-generation exoskeleton armor!"
The men said, their eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Excellent. We finally found some. Go dismantle these two suits and get them ready for transport!"
Eric ordered Vice-Captain Sun Hui, who was beside him.
"Yes, sir!"
Sun Hui immediately led his men forward.
...
「Main Corridor Area.」
Qian Luobing led her team, fighting their way through the corridor. When they reached the end, they found themselves in a dim, circular hall.
The entrance to the Central Control Room was on the opposite side of the hall.
"The entrance to the Central Control Room!"
Jiang Huai's eyes lit up as he shouted in excitement.
Just as Adika and the others were about to rush forward, Qian Luobing suddenly raised a hand, signaling everyone to stop. She turned her head to look at a dark corner ahead.
A pair of scarlet eyes ignited in the darkness, followed by a low growl.
Adika and his team were instantly on alert, raising their firearms.
A general-class Blood Breath Beast—Xue Li—emerged from the dark corner, blocking their path. The creature stood four meters tall with a pointed, lizard-like head. Its mouth was filled with sharp teeth, and its entire body was covered in red, fleshy lumps. It had a bulging abdomen, sharp claws, and a long tail. It bared its teeth as it stepped out to confront Qian Luobing's team.
Upon seeing it, Qian Luobing gave a cold command.
"Spread out. Take it down!"
"Yes, ma'am!"
Adika and the others fanned out.
Xue Li's scarlet eyes locked onto Qian Luobing, the one in the lead. It opened its mouth, let out a piercing roar, and charged.
BANG! BANG!
Adika and his team, now spread out, opened fire on Xue Li.
The dense volley of bullets peppered its body, punching small holes in its flesh.
But Xue Li didn't change its target. It charged straight for Qian Luobing, its gaping maw wide open for the kill.
Qian Luobing didn't panic or dodge. Her icy eyes remained fixed on the lunging Xue Li. At the last possible second, she sidestepped its deadly bite. She pulled a sleek CSC-01 adhesion bomb from her tactical belt, activated it, and leaped, slapping it onto the side of Xue Li's head. The instant her feet touched the ground, she kicked off and vaulted backward.
BEEP! BEEP!
The indicator light on the adhesion bomb turned red.
BOOM!
A massive explosion erupted.
Xue Li collapsed with a pained shriek. A huge chunk of its head had been blown off, exposing dark red flesh and tissue as blood streamed down.
But even this didn't kill it. The beast struggled back to its feet, trying to attack Qian Luobing again.
Just then, Adika and his team closed in from all sides, firing on the wounded Xue Li and tossing spin-grenades at it.
BOOM! RUMBLE!
More holes were torn into Xue Li's body, but the wounds began to regenerate almost instantly.
Enraged, it changed targets, leaping into the midst of the surrounding soldiers and swiping with its claws.
"Aaaargh!"
With agonized screams, two soldiers were torn to shreds.
"Damn it! Fire!"
Adika and his men fired in a rage.
But the beast was incredibly tenacious. It charged through the hail of gunfire and tore another soldier apart with a single bite.
Just then, Qian Luobing noticed the beast's bulging abdomen and immediately issued a new command.
"All units, concentrate fire on its abdomen!"
"Yes, ma'am!"
Adika and his team shifted their fire, relentlessly shooting at Xue Li's abdomen while cooking off spin-grenades and tossing them at the beast.
KA-BOOM!
"AWOOOO!"
As its abdomen took concentrated fire, Xue Li let out a piercing shriek, and its movements became sluggish.
Seizing the opportunity, Adika pulled out a C4 charge, activated it, and tossed it right under Xue Li's belly.
BOOM!
With a tremendous explosion, Xue Li's abdomen was blown open, and it collapsed to the ground.
A juvenile Xue Li tumbled out of its mother's ruptured body, writhing on the ground.
The general-class Xue Li tried to struggle back to its feet.
Adika and his team gave it no chance, continuing to strafe it and toss spin-grenades.
Before long, under the team's relentless assault, it let out one last, defiant howl and finally went still.
"Ma'am, it's dealt with."
Adika and his men breathed a collective sigh of relief.
"Let's move."
Qian Luobing led her team into the Central Control Room.
The Central Control Room of the underground base was over five hundred square meters. A massive control console sat at the far end.
Qian Luobing led Adika and the others to the console and spoke in a cold tone.
"Jiang Huai, it's all yours."
"Right."
Jiang Huai stepped forward to inspect the console.
Qian Luobing and the others watched in silence.
After a dozen or so minutes, Adika and the others began to urge him on.
"Well? Is it going to work or not?"
"No problem. I've checked it over. It has power, and the console isn't damaged. I'll try rebooting it now."
Jiang Huai flipped the main power switch, pressed the ignition button, and tried to boot up the console.
The console's screen flickered to life, and a pop-up window appeared, requesting an authorization ID and a security key.
"Uh-oh. It needs an ID and a key!"
Jiang Huai's expression froze.
