Genesis & Oblivion: The Celestial Evolution System
Chapter 94 — The Fourteenth FloorChapter 94: Chapter 94 — The Fourteenth Floor
The staircase seemed quieter than the ones before it.
Azrael climbed slowly, his thoughts still focused on what had happened on the Thirteenth Floor.
For the first time, the Celestial Evolution System had acknowledged something directly connected to his race.
Aetherion.
He didn’t yet understand what the race truly meant.
But he could feel that something inside him had changed.
It wasn’t a sudden increase in strength.
It was more subtle.
His perception had become sharper.
His connection to energy felt different.
Even the world around him seemed slightly easier to understand.
Seraphina appeared to be experiencing something similar.
She walked beside him quietly, occasionally looking at her hands.
Her Genesis energy seemed warmer than before.
Caelan noticed their expressions.
"You two seem different."
Seraphina smiled.
"Maybe we learned something useful."
"That’s good."
Caelan looked ahead.
"We’ll need everything we’ve learned."
The staircase suddenly ended.
The group stepped onto the Fourteenth Floor.
They expected another strange environment.
Instead...
They found a city.
A massive city.
Golden towers rose into the sky.
Bridges connected buildings hundreds of meters above the ground.
Thousands of people walked through the streets.
Merchants shouted from stalls.
Students traveled between buildings.
Flying creatures carried passengers through the sky.
The entire place looked completely normal.
Orin stared.
"Are we still inside the Tower?"
Azrael nodded slowly.
"I think so."
The System appeared.
[Floor Fourteen]
Trial Type: Civilization
Objective:
Live within the city for seven days.
Special Rule:
Combat is prohibited.
Additional Rule:
Your identity as Tower challengers is concealed.
Failure Condition:
Using force to solve a problem.
Orin’s expression immediately collapsed.
"Seven days?"
Lyanna laughed.
"You sound disappointed."
"I trained to fight monsters."
"Then this should be easy."
Orin looked at the enormous city.
"Something tells me it won’t be."
Azrael agreed.
"It won’t."
A moment later, their appearance changed.
Their equipment disappeared.
Their weapons were gone.
Even their clothes had changed.
Azrael was now wearing simple black clothing.
Seraphina wore a white dress.
Caelan, Lyanna, and Orin received ordinary clothing as well.
The System displayed another message.
[Trial Restrictions Applied]
All combat abilities sealed.
All external equipment sealed.
System assistance limited.
Azrael frowned.
He could still feel his abilities.
But they were completely inaccessible.
Seraphina looked toward him.
"How are we supposed to survive here?"
Azrael smiled.
"Like ordinary people."
The first problem appeared almost immediately.
They had no money.
Orin stared at the marketplace.
"That’s not good."
Caelan looked around.
"We need work."
Lyanna pointed toward a large building.
"There."
A sign above the entrance read:
City Adventurers’ Association.
They entered.
The receptionist looked at them.
"Are you looking for work?"
Caelan nodded.
"We are."
She handed them several notices.
"Delivery."
"Cleaning."
"Construction."
"Farm assistance."
Orin immediately grabbed the construction notice.
"I can do this."
Lyanna laughed.
"Your strength is sealed."
Orin looked offended.
"I can still carry things."
They accepted several small jobs.
For the next few hours, they worked like ordinary citizens.
Caelan delivered documents.
Lyanna helped organize a merchant’s warehouse.
Orin assisted construction workers.
Seraphina worked at a small clinic.
Azrael found himself helping an elderly shopkeeper repair shelves.
None of them used their abilities.
None of them relied on the System.
For the first time since entering the Academy...
They were simply people.
By evening, they gathered at a small restaurant.
Orin dropped into his chair.
"I never thought carrying boxes would be harder than fighting monsters."
Lyanna laughed.
"You spent half the day complaining."
"I was providing valuable feedback."
Caelan smiled.
Seraphina looked around the restaurant.
Something about the experience felt strange.
Peaceful.
No monsters.
No trials.
No pressure.
Just people eating dinner after a long day.
Azrael noticed her expression.
"You like it."
She nodded.
"Yes."
"Why?"
She thought for a moment.
"Because everyone here is living normally."
Azrael looked around.
A family sat at the next table.
A group of workers laughed nearby.
A young couple shared a meal.
Children ran through the street outside.
Seraphina smiled.
"Sometimes I forget that this is what strength is supposed to protect."
Azrael nodded.
He understood.
The second day passed quietly.
Then the third.
By the fourth day, they had begun to understand the city.
They learned which streets were busy.
Which merchants were honest.
Which restaurants served good food.
Which neighborhoods were dangerous.
They also discovered something important.
The city wasn’t perfect.
There were thieves.
Corrupt merchants.
Arguments.
Poor districts.
People who abused their authority.
But there were also people who helped strangers.
Merchants who gave food to children.
Healers who treated people without asking for payment.
Workers who protected one another.
The Tower wasn’t testing whether they could live in a perfect civilization.
It was testing whether they could understand an imperfect one.
On the fifth day, Azrael encountered a problem.
The elderly shopkeeper he had been helping was being threatened by several men.
"You owe us."
The oldest man said.
The shopkeeper lowered his head.
"I already paid."
"You paid part of it."
"We’ll take the rest."
Azrael stood nearby.
His fists tightened.
He could defeat them easily if his powers were available.
But they weren’t.
The trial specifically prohibited violence.
One of the men noticed him.
"What are you staring at?"
Azrael remained calm.
"I’m thinking."
The man laughed.
"About what?"
"About your problem."
The man’s expression darkened.
"This isn’t your business."
Azrael looked toward the shopkeeper.
"You’re right."
Then he looked back.
"But you’re making it my business."
The men stepped closer.
Azrael didn’t move.
He didn’t threaten them.
Instead, he asked a simple question.
"How much does he owe?"
The man hesitated.
"Fifty silver."
Azrael looked at the shopkeeper.
"How much did you already pay?"
"Forty."
Azrael nodded.
"Then you claim he owes fifty more?"
"Yes."
"Do you have proof?"
The man became silent.
Azrael looked around.
Several people had stopped to watch.
"The city has laws."
"Let’s ask the authorities."
The men immediately looked uncomfortable.
One of them cursed.
"This isn’t worth it."
They turned and left.
The shopkeeper stared at Azrael.
"Thank you."
Azrael smiled.
"I didn’t do much."
"You didn’t need to."
That evening, the System appeared.
[Civilization Trial Progress]
Days Completed: 5/7
Violence Avoided
Problem Solving: Excellent
Understanding of Society: Increased
Azrael looked at the notification.
He finally understood the purpose of this floor.
The Tower wasn’t teaching them how to fight.
It was teaching them how to live among the people their strength would eventually affect.
A powerful cultivator could destroy a city with a single attack.
But could that cultivator understand the people living inside it?
Could they solve problems without destroying everything around them?
That was the real test.
On the sixth day, Seraphina encountered her own challenge.
The clinic where she worked received a large number of injured workers.
There weren’t enough healers.
She instinctively wanted to use Genesis energy.
But her abilities remained sealed.
So she couldn’t.
Instead, she followed Elder Iris’s teachings.
She organized the injured.
Separated serious wounds from minor ones.
Prepared herbs.
Cleaned wounds.
Comforted frightened patients.
By nightfall, everyone had been treated.
The elderly healer working beside her smiled.
"You have good instincts."
Seraphina smiled.
"I had a good teacher."
The seventh morning arrived.
The city looked exactly as it had before.
But Azrael and the others were different.
They had learned to appreciate ordinary things.
Work.
Food.
Friendship.
Community.
Responsibility.
At noon, the System appeared.
[Civilization Trial Complete]
Seven-Day Requirement: Fulfilled
Combat Restriction: Fulfilled
Violence Avoidance: Successful
Civilization Understanding: Excellent
Team Contribution: Excellent
Special Reward Granted
The city froze.
Every person stopped moving.
The sky became completely still.
Then the entire city dissolved into golden particles.
The buildings disappeared.
The streets vanished.
The people disappeared.
The six companions found themselves standing on a massive stone platform.
Their equipment returned.
Their abilities returned.
A staircase appeared ahead.
Orin immediately checked his shield.
"Finally."
Lyanna laughed.
"You missed your weapon that much?"
"Yes."
Caelan looked toward Azrael.
"What did you think of the trial?"
Azrael looked back at the empty space where the city had been.
"It was difficult."
Seraphina smiled.
"More difficult than fighting?"
Azrael thought about it.
"Sometimes."
The System appeared one final time.
[Personal Understanding Increased]
Azrael — Leadership Awareness Increased
Seraphina — Life Understanding Increased
Caelan — Social Awareness Increased
Lyanna — Trust Understanding Increased
Orin — Responsibility Understanding Increased
Azrael looked toward the next staircase.
They had learned to fight together.
They had learned to trust one another.
They had learned to understand themselves.
Now the Tower was teaching them something else.
How to use their strength without becoming controlled by it.
The group began climbing.
No one knew what the Fifteenth Floor would contain.
But after fourteen floors...
They had stopped expecting every challenge to be a battle.
