Chapter 93: Chapter 93 — The Thirteenth Floor

The staircase seemed to stretch forever.

Azrael walked at the front while Seraphina followed closely behind.

Caelan, Lyanna, and Orin remained together, each conserving their strength after the previous trial.

For several minutes, nothing happened.

Then Azrael noticed something.

The temperature had changed.

The cold from the Twelfth Floor was disappearing.

Warm air gradually replaced it.

By the time they reached the top, the cold had vanished completely.

Azrael stepped onto the next floor.

His eyes widened slightly.

The Thirteenth Floor was beautiful.

A vast green meadow stretched across the horizon.

Crystal-clear streams flowed between fields of flowers.

Tall trees covered the distant hills.

Birds with glowing wings flew through the sky.

At the center of the meadow stood a massive white gate.

There were no monsters.

No traps.

No visible enemies.

Orin looked around.

"This doesn’t look like a trial."

Azrael nodded.

"It doesn’t."

The System appeared.

[Floor Thirteen]

Trial Type: Evolution

Objective:

Reach the White Gate.

Special Condition:

No external assistance.

Additional Condition:

Every participant must evolve through understanding.

Seraphina stared at the notification.

"Evolution?"

Caelan looked around.

"There’s nothing here."

"Maybe that’s the point," Azrael said.

He slowly walked forward.

The moment his foot touched the grass—

The entire meadow changed.

The flowers disappeared.

The trees vanished.

The sky became dark.

Azrael found himself standing alone in an endless black space.

"Everyone?"

No answer.

He turned around.

There was nothing.

Not even Seraphina.

A System notification appeared.

[Individual Trial Initiated]

Aetherion Trial

Your current understanding is insufficient.

Demonstrate your ability to evolve.

Azrael frowned.

"What am I supposed to evolve?"

No response came.

He waited.

Nothing happened.

Azrael closed his eyes.

The old master’s teachings immediately came to mind.

Every opponent asks a different question.

If your answer is always the sword, one day you’ll meet a question your blade cannot answer.

Azrael opened his eyes.

He slowly released Astraeus.

The sword disappeared into his storage.

"Then I won’t fight."

The darkness remained silent.

Azrael sat down.

He waited.

Minutes passed.

Then hours.

Nothing happened.

Azrael didn’t move.

He simply observed.

The darkness.

The silence.

His own breathing.

His heartbeat.

Eventually, he noticed something.

The darkness wasn’t empty.

It had a resonance.

Very faint.

Almost impossible to perceive.

Azrael activated Resonance Sight.

Nothing.

He activated Origin Perception.

Still nothing.

He closed his eyes again.

Instead of trying to see the resonance...

He listened.

There.

A faint vibration.

Azrael smiled.

"So you’re here."

He extended his hand.

The darkness trembled.

A small silver light appeared above his palm.

It wasn’t mana.

It wasn’t spiritual energy.

It was something different.

Something that felt strangely familiar.

The System appeared.

[Aetherion Resonance Detected]

Racial Awakening: 1%

Understanding Required.

Azrael stared at the notification.

"Aetherion..."

For the first time, the System had directly responded to his race.

He focused on the silver light.

The moment he tried to control it—

It disappeared.

Azrael didn’t become frustrated.

Instead, he smiled.

"Again."

He tried.

Failed.

Again.

Failed.

Again.

Each attempt lasted longer.

The silver light slowly became more stable.

Eventually, it remained floating above his palm.

The System appeared.

[Aetherion Resonance]

Racial Understanding Increased

Aetherion Awakening: 3%

Adaptive Evolution Activated

Azrael looked at the light.

He finally understood.

The Tower wasn’t asking him to become stronger.

It was asking him to understand what he already was.

He closed his fingers.

The silver light entered his body.

A faint pulse traveled through his veins.

Azrael’s eyes briefly turned silver.

Then returned to normal.

He stood.

"I understand."

The darkness shattered.

At the same time, Seraphina opened her eyes.

She was standing in a completely different place.

A vast garden surrounded her.

Every plant was dying.

Flowers had withered.

Trees had turned gray.

Streams had dried up.

At the center stood a single small seed.

The System appeared.

[Genesis Bloom Trial]

Your current understanding is insufficient.

Demonstrate your ability to nurture life.

Seraphina approached the seed.

She immediately released her Genesis energy.

Nothing happened.

She frowned.

She tried again.

Still nothing.

The seed remained lifeless.

Seraphina remembered Elder Iris.

"You didn’t command life."

"You encouraged it."

Seraphina slowly withdrew her energy.

She sat beside the seed.

Instead of forcing power into it, she simply placed her hand beside it.

She waited.

Nothing happened.

Hours passed.

She remained there.

Eventually, the soil beneath the seed moved.

A tiny root emerged.

Seraphina smiled.

She didn’t interfere.

The root grew deeper.

Then another appeared.

A tiny green stem emerged from the ground.

Golden light surrounded it.

The System appeared.

[Genesis Bloom Resonance Detected]

Racial Awakening: 1%

Understanding Required.

Seraphina’s eyes widened.

"So this is my race..."

She gently touched the new sprout.

"Genesis Bloom."

The plant responded to her touch.

Its leaves became brighter.

[Genesis Bloom Resonance]

Racial Understanding Increased

Genesis Bloom Awakening: 3%

Life Affinity Increased

Seraphina smiled.

"I understand now."

The garden filled with golden light.

Elsewhere, Caelan stood before an enormous mountain.

His trial was simple.

The mountain blocked his path.

He attacked it.

Nothing happened.

He attacked again.

Still nothing.

Eventually, he stopped.

He looked at the mountain.

Then at the path around it.

He smiled.

"Not every obstacle needs to be destroyed."

He walked around it.

The mountain disappeared.

Lyanna found herself inside a completely enclosed room.

There were no doors.

No windows.

She searched every wall.

Nothing.

Eventually, she stopped searching.

She closed her eyes.

Then stepped into her own shadow.

The darkness carried her through the wall.

She emerged on the other side.

Orin stood before an enormous barrier.

He attacked it repeatedly.

His shield cracked.

His arms became numb.

Eventually, he stopped.

He placed his shield on the ground.

"I don’t need to break it."

He sat behind it.

The barrier slowly disappeared.

One by one, the trials ended.

The five disciples reappeared in the meadow.

Seraphina immediately looked toward Azrael.

"You passed."

Azrael smiled.

"So did you."

She looked at him carefully.

"Something changed."

Azrael nodded.

"I learned something about my race."

Seraphina smiled.

"So did I."

Caelan looked at both of them.

"Your races?"

Azrael paused.

He wasn’t sure how much he should reveal.

Seraphina answered instead.

"Something like that."

Caelan didn’t press further.

The System suddenly appeared.

[Floor Thirteen Complete]

All Participants Passed

Individual Understanding Increased

Evolution Potential Increased

Racial Resonance Detected

Special Reward Granted

A golden light descended upon the group.

Azrael felt the silver resonance within his body become slightly stronger.

Seraphina felt the same with her Genesis energy.

The White Gate at the center of the meadow opened.

Beyond it stood a familiar staircase.

Orin stared upward.

"Another floor?"

Azrael nodded.

"Looks like it."

Lyanna sighed.

"We’ve come this far."

Caelan smiled.

"Then let’s continue."

The five walked through the White Gate together.

Before climbing the next staircase, Seraphina looked at Azrael.

"Whatever happens next..."

Azrael smiled.

"We’ll handle it together."

She nodded.

The group continued upward.

The Thirteenth Floor had taught them something important.

Strength wasn’t always about gaining more power.

Sometimes...

It was about understanding the power already within them.
