Genesis & Oblivion: The Celestial Evolution System
Chapter 99 — The Nineteenth FloorChapter 99: Chapter 99 — The Nineteenth Floor
The staircase seemed longer than the previous ones.
Azrael and the others climbed in silence, each carrying the lessons of the previous floors with them.
The higher they went, the quieter the Tower became.
There were no voices.
No System notifications.
No sounds coming from the floors above.
Only their footsteps echoed through the endless staircase.
Orin eventually broke the silence.
"Does anyone else think the Tower is getting harder?"
Lyanna glanced at him.
"Obviously."
"I was hoping someone would disagree."
Caelan smiled faintly.
"You’ve been hoping for that since the first floor."
Orin sighed.
"I miss the easy floors."
Azrael laughed.
"Was there ever an easy floor?"
Orin thought about it.
"...No."
"Exactly."
After several more minutes, the staircase finally ended.
The group stepped onto the Nineteenth Floor.
Immediately, they noticed something unusual.
There were no walls.
No ceiling.
No visible floor.
They were standing on a massive floating island surrounded by clouds.
Beyond the clouds stretched an endless blue sky.
Mountains floated in the distance.
Rivers flowed through the air.
Entire forests grew upside down from enormous pieces of land suspended above them.
Seraphina looked around in amazement.
"This is beautiful."
Azrael nodded.
"It is."
Then he noticed something else.
The island was completely empty.
No monsters.
No guardians.
No statues.
Nothing.
The System appeared.
[Floor Nineteen]
Trial Type: Survival
Objective:
Remain on the island for twelve hours.
Special Condition:
The environment will change continuously.
Additional Condition:
Protect your companions.
Failure Condition:
Any member leaves the designated area.
Orin stared at the notification.
"That’s it?"
Caelan frowned.
"It doesn’t sound difficult."
Azrael looked toward the horizon.
"It will be."
As if responding to his words, the sky suddenly darkened.
Clouds gathered above them.
Thunder rolled across the heavens.
Seraphina looked upward.
"That was fast."
A violent storm descended.
Lightning struck the distant mountains.
The wind became stronger.
The floating island began shaking.
Orin immediately dropped his stance.
"Okay."
"I take back what I said."
Azrael smiled.
"Stay together."
The group moved toward the center of the island.
Seraphina raised her staff.
A golden barrier spread around everyone.
The first wave of wind slammed into it.
BOOM!
The barrier shook.
Seraphina gritted her teeth.
"It’s stronger than normal wind."
Azrael looked toward the sky.
"It’s not just wind."
He activated Origin Perception.
His expression changed.
"The storm contains elemental energy."
Caelan raised his spear.
"How much?"
"Enough to destroy the island."
Orin swallowed.
"Then we have twelve hours of this?"
Azrael shook his head.
"I don’t think so."
Another lightning strike descended.
This time...
The entire island shook violently.
Cracks appeared across the ground.
The System appeared.
[Environmental Change]
Phase One: Storm
Duration: 2 Hours
Orin stared.
"Only two hours?"
Azrael nodded.
"Then something worse is coming."
The storm intensified.
Seraphina maintained the barrier while the others reinforced it.
Caelan used his spear to redirect lightning that struck too close to them.
Lyanna moved around the perimeter, checking for cracks.
Orin stood near Seraphina.
"If you get tired, tell me."
She nodded.
"I will."
Azrael watched the storm.
Something bothered him.
The lightning wasn’t random.
Every strike followed a pattern.
He studied the sky.
One strike.
Two.
Three.
Five.
Seven.
His eyes narrowed.
"It’s forming a formation."
Caelan looked toward him.
"A formation?"
"Yes."
Azrael pointed toward the clouds.
"The storm is surrounding the island."
Lyanna understood.
"It’s not trying to destroy the island."
"It’s trapping us."
Azrael nodded.
"The Tower wants to see whether we can survive without leaving."
The System appeared again.
[Environmental Understanding Increased]
Hidden Pattern Detected
Azrael smiled.
"The storm has a weakness."
He pointed toward the eastern side of the island.
"Every thirty seconds, the lightning stops there."
Caelan immediately understood.
"We can use the interval to reinforce the barrier."
"Exactly."
The group moved.
They worked together.
Seraphina strengthened the barrier.
Caelan reinforced the eastern boundary.
Lyanna sealed the cracks.
Orin carried broken pieces of stone and filled the damaged areas.
Azrael coordinated everything.
Two hours passed.
The storm disappeared.
The sky became clear.
The System appeared.
[Phase One Complete]
Team Coordination Increased
Environmental Awareness Increased
Orin collapsed onto the ground.
"Finally."
He looked toward the sky.
"I never want to see another storm again."
A voice suddenly echoed across the island.
"Phase Two."
Orin immediately sat up.
"What?"
The ground beneath them began glowing.
Golden symbols appeared.
The entire island transformed.
The peaceful grass disappeared.
A massive forest erupted from the ground.
Trees grew hundreds of meters high within seconds.
Their branches twisted together.
The sunlight vanished.
The System appeared.
[Environmental Change]
Phase Two: Labyrinth Forest
Duration: 3 Hours
Special Rule:
The environment will attempt to separate the participants.
Azrael immediately drew Astraeus.
"Stay close."
The forest swallowed the island.
Trees shifted continuously.
Paths appeared and disappeared.
The ground moved beneath their feet.
Within seconds, the group became separated.
"Seraphina!"
Azrael turned.
She was gone.
"Caelan!"
No response.
Lyanna and Orin had disappeared as well.
Azrael remained alone.
He activated Origin Perception.
Nothing.
The forest distorted his senses.
He remembered the Seventeenth Floor.
What you see cannot be trusted.
Azrael smiled.
"So that’s the point."
He closed his eyes.
Instead of searching visually...
He listened.
A faint familiar resonance reached him.
Genesis energy.
Seraphina.
Azrael moved through the forest.
Seraphina stood alone beneath an enormous tree.
She looked around.
"Azrael?"
No answer.
A creature emerged from the shadows.
It resembled a giant wolf covered in green scales.
Seraphina raised her staff.
The beast charged.
She didn’t attack immediately.
Instead, she observed it.
The creature wasn’t actually trying to kill her.
It was forcing her backward.
Toward a cliff.
Seraphina understood.
"The environment isn’t attacking us randomly."
She stepped aside.
The beast ran past her.
She touched the ground.
Golden flowers bloomed.
The creature stepped onto them.
Its movement slowed.
Seraphina walked past it.
"I don’t have time for this."
She continued forward.
Azrael eventually found her.
Seraphina smiled.
"You figured it out too?"
"That we’re being tested?"
"Yes."
Azrael nodded.
"The Tower wants us to find each other without relying on the obvious methods."
They continued together.
One by one, they found Caelan, Lyanna, and Orin.
When everyone regrouped, the forest began changing again.
The trees disappeared.
The sky returned.
The System appeared.
[Phase Two Complete]
Team Coordination Increased
Mental Resistance Increased
Independent Survival Understanding Increased
Orin looked at Azrael.
"So what happens next?"
Azrael looked toward the horizon.
"I don’t know."
The ground began shaking.
A massive mountain rose from the center of the island.
Its peak disappeared into the clouds.
The System appeared.
[Environmental Change]
Phase Three: Ascension
Duration: 4 Hours
Objective:
Reach the summit.
Additional Rule:
The path will become increasingly difficult.
Caelan looked upward.
"We have to climb."
Lyanna smiled.
"At least that’s straightforward."
Azrael looked at the mountain.
"No."
She glanced at him.
"No?"
"Look carefully."
Everyone followed his gaze.
The mountain had no path.
No stairs.
No visible route.
Only a vertical cliff stretching toward the clouds.
Orin stared.
"You’re joking."
Azrael smiled.
"No."
"This is the next lesson."
Seraphina stepped forward.
"Then let’s climb."
They began.
The first hundred meters were easy.
The next hundred became difficult.
At five hundred meters, the air became thinner.
At one thousand meters, gravity increased.
At two thousand meters, the stone itself began moving.
Caelan used his spear to anchor himself.
Lyanna moved through cracks in the mountain.
Orin physically pulled himself upward.
Seraphina created vines to help everyone climb.
Azrael moved ahead.
Then the mountain suddenly shifted.
A massive section of stone broke away.
Orin lost his grip.
"Ah!"
He fell.
Azrael immediately moved.
He grabbed Orin’s arm.
The force nearly pulled Azrael from the mountain as well.
Orin looked upward.
"Let go!"
Azrael shook his head.
"No."
"You’ll fall too!"
"I know."
Seraphina immediately created golden vines.
They wrapped around both of them.
Caelan grabbed the vines.
Lyanna grabbed Caelan.
Together, they pulled Orin back onto the mountain.
Everyone remained silent for a moment.
Then Orin laughed nervously.
"That was close."
Azrael looked at him.
"Don’t do that again."
"I wasn’t planning to."
They continued climbing.
Hours passed.
Finally...
They reached the summit.
The moment Azrael stepped onto the top, the entire mountain disappeared.
The group found themselves standing once again on the original island.
The System appeared.

Seraphina looked at him.
"You’ve grown again."
"So have you."
She smiled.
Caelan looked toward the staircase.
There it was.
Waiting for them.
Above it was the number:
20
Orin stared at it.
"The twentieth floor."
Lyanna nodded.
"Halfway?"
Caelan shook his head.
"Not necessarily."
Azrael looked toward the staircase.
"The higher we go, the less the number matters."
Seraphina nodded.
"What matters is what the Tower is trying to teach us."
Azrael smiled.
"Then let’s find out."
The five gathered their belongings and walked toward the staircase.
They had survived the Nineteenth Floor together.
And for the first time since entering the Tower, none of them walked alone.
