Genesis Sync

As John opened his eyes, he saw that he was still lying on the sofa in his new apartment, except now there were four women surrounding him and looking at him with concern. He recognised three of them as Sarah, Rebecca and Jessica; however, he didn’t recognise the fourth.

"John, what happened?" Sarah asked as she saw him open his eyes.

"I died," John said in a slightly dejected voice.

"What?" All of them asked simultaneously.

"I died in the starter village," John replied, causing them all to gape at him.

"How can you die in the starter village? I thought it was supposed to be impossible. I mean, the whole village is classified as a safe zone, right?" The woman John didn't recognise asked.

"Ah, introductions." Sarah suddenly said in realisation before adding. "John, this is Roberta, Adria’s personal maid and assistant. Adria wanted to come herself when she learned that you weren’t responding to our messages, but she’s busy and so sent Roberta.”

"A pleasure to meet you, John Michaels," Roberta said while bowing slightly.

“And yours, Roberta,” John replied.

"Anyway, John, how did you die in the starter village?" Rebecca curiously asked.

"Ugh, it's embarrassing." John groaned.

"All the more reason I want to hear it," Rebecca said with a cheeky smile.

John looked at all four beauties giving him curious looks before saying, "Fine, but I need some water."

After that, John got up and headed for the kitchen, where he pulled a cold bottle of water out of the fridge before drinking some, after which he asked, "Does anyone else want something?”

The four women shook their heads before Rebecca teasingly said, "Stop stalling and explain."

"Fine, I died in the Weapons Hall."

"That tells us nothing; you're not supposed to be able to die there or anywhere else in the village. It's classified as a safe zone; we need more information." Rebecca demanded, clearly getting impatient.

"Fine..." John sighed before telling them all what had happened since he first got to the training hall, how he enjoyed the training so much he actually lost track of time until finally he died. By the time he finished, the women had gone from impressed at John's level of focus and determination to cracking up with laughter at the fact he trained himself to death.

"Ah, I'm dying here. I can't take it; this is too funny." Rebecca had trouble saying as she wiped away the tears in her eyes. John just scoffed before drinking more water.

After a few minutes of laughter, they all managed to calm down, and Jessica asked, "So, what happened after you died? Did you lose a level and your stat points like normal before being transported to the nearest re-spawn location?"

John nodded before saying, "Mostly, I lost the one level I had gained and respawned in the graveyard; however, I didn’t lose any stat points."

"Really? Did it tell you why?" Sarah asked with interest.

John thought for a moment before saying, “The notification mentioned something along the lines of, since I had died in the starter village, I would not get the logout penalty or have any of my stat points reduced."

All the women were silent for a moment before Roberta asked, "Is this intentional or do you think it's a flaw?"

"Hmm, I'm not sure; it doesn’t sound like Tia to keep any flaws in Genesis. She usually fixes them as soon as they are discovered,” Rebecca replied.

"What am I missing here?" John asked.

"You see, John, we have never heard of anyone dying in any starter village before,” Roberta explained. “In the towns and cities after you graduate from the starter village, sure, but never in the starter village.At least that we’re aware of.

Things are different once you step outside the starter village and, in your case, into Dawn Forest. There you can die just like any other player, and in doing so you will lose one level, the stat points equivalent to that level as well as a random amount of gear, gold and other loot, before being looked out of Genesis for twenty-four hours.

Inside the starter village, your HP cannot be harmed by anything; even if someone tried to stick a sword through your gut, nothing would happen because an invisible barrier would appear and protect you while knocking the individual who attacked you back. Even npc's won't attack you in the starter village; the worst they do is kick you out."

Once you get permission from the village leader to leave the starter village by completing his quest and are transported to Waning City,you can be killed anywhere in game except dedicated safe zones, such as a room at the inn you purchased or other random safe zones you may stumble across, such as in the bigger dungeons.

The fact that you found a way to die that does not cause you to lose your stat points is an incredible thing; this means you could go out and grind a level from killing mobs or doing missions to get the stat points, then train in the weapons hall until you die and go back to level zero without losing those stat points you gained. Theoretically, you could gain an infinite amount of stat points without leaving the training hall."

"I see,” John nodded before saying, “It’s a lot of work though; I mean, how many hours was I in Genesis for? As the majority of that time was spent in the weapons hall. Do you know how long it takes before you die from hunger in Genesis?"

"Six hours," Sarah replied before continuing, "Someone would have to grind out a level before going to the weapons hall and training there non-stop for six hours before restarting over."

There was silence for a moment before Jessica spoke. "There has to be a limit for this, or it's a bug. Do you think we should tell Tia?"

"Yes, we should," Rebecca said straight away. "We all know Tia's philosophy on cheating and taking advantage of bugs in Genesis, as well as not reporting them. You do remember what happened to that Dwarf who found a bug to make infinite gold, right?"

"I don't," John replied while the other women nodded.

"A few years back, a dwarf discovered a rather out of the way npc that wanted this one item that you could buy for dirt cheap in the local town,” Rebecca began to explain. “The NPC bought the item for over ten times the amount you brought it for. So, this Dwarf spent days going back and forth buying and selling this one item and making crazy amounts of gold until Tia noticed his strange influx of gold. After investigating the matter, she punished him severely."

"How severely?" John asked.

"First she took all the gold he made, then she banned him from Genesis for six months, and when he could finally log back in, he learned that he had a mandatory quest to repay all the gold he made from that one NPC with interest. And in order to make sure he didn’t skimp out on paying, Tia made it so that any gold the Dwarf made from then had fifty percent of it automatically transferred to the NPC."

"So, we are reporting this to Tia, correct?" Jessica asked again.

"Do it," Sarah nodded. For she knew it was better to report it than face another punishment from Tia.

Jessica nodded before pulling up a holographic screen on her access band and clicking the [Contact Tia] button. After waiting for a few moments, a mini holographic Tia appeared above her access band, saying. "You requested assistance, Princess Protector."

“Princess Protector?” Adam asked with a smirk.

“What? I protect the royal family,” Jessica replied before addressing Tia, "We would like to report a bug in Genesis."

Upon hearing Jessica’s words, Tia's face showed a rare frown before saying, "Please proceed."

Jessica nodded before glancing at John and saying, "John, since you found the bug, I think it would be best for you to explain it to Tia."

John nodded before saying. "Hello again, Tia."

"Hello again, John. I hope you are enjoying Genesis." Tia responded, catching the women by surprise.

Rebecca leaned towards the other women before whispering, "Did Tia just straight address him as John without his surname or using his character name instead?”

"Adria and the empress always have to remind her about how they would like her to address them," Roberta whispered back.

“Alea is the same,” Sarah added as John explained what happened to him in Genesis.

"Report received. While I thank you for reporting this, I can inform you that it is not a bug and is working as intended," Tia announced

"It's not?" Sarah asked in surprise.

"Correct, Blue Ice Queen,” Tia explained. “It is a hidden feature that was unlocked after you achieved the first character rebirth. It is meant to partially balance out the stat advantage you gained from said rebirth. Though, to make things fair and to factor in the great effort you went through to gain your character rebirth, only those who demonstrate admirable qualities such as hard work will discover such secrets.”
