John read through the quest notification before asking in a whisper, “Did you also get the quest update?”

“Yes,” Mel whispered back while nodding. “I can’t believe option two could lead to Dawn Forest’s death. Can you inspect the NPC so we can see what we’re dealing with?”

{Shit} John thought just as Mel whispered, “Shit. A corrupted boss that's over level thirteen. We should retreat and choose option one.”

John nodded in agreement as the pair began to retreat; however, they had only taken one step when Eler Cahro looked in their direction and said, "I know you're both there, young friends. Don't you think it's rude to spy on people?"

[Defeat Eler Cahro to stop the diabolical magic circle from activating and destroying Dawn Forest]

“How the fuck did he notice us?” Mel hissed in surprise.

“Could it have been from me inspecting him?” John asked.

Mel nodded before adding, “Possibly; I guess it makes sense for stronger individuals to detect when weaker individuals inspect them. But now we’re forced to fight him with Dawn Forest on the line.”

“At least he has reduced HP and Endurance.”

“With increased attack,” Mel shot back before adding. “He’s literally a glass cannon now.”

“I’m still waiting, young friends; please don’t make me come find you, as that will only make things worse,” Eler Cahro suddenly said, interrupting their discussion.

“I guess we've got no choice,” Mel sighed before adding. “Let's go.”

John nodded before stepping out into the clearing just as Eler Cahro said, "Welcome, my young friends, though I must admit I was not expecting visitors."

As he finally got a good look at Eler Cahro, John was surprised to see that he recognised him; he was the same human he had met on his very first day in Genesis, the one lying on the grass who had directed him towards Dawn Village. However, there was something different about him this time; he appeared to be suffering from the same sickness that was affecting the forest.

One entire side of the man's face had turned black, while the clothing he was wearing seemed to be slowly disintegrating, offering little protection or privacy.

“Ah, come on, if I wanted to see a naked guy, I’d just watch a porno,” Mel complained.

John glanced at her before saying, “I’m not sure how to take that.”

Mel shrugged in response before flashing him a flirtatious wink as she added, “A girl has needs.”

"Oh! The young man from the other day, I’m guessing you found your way to Dawn Village then?” Eler Cahro asked before adding. “It's a shame the village won't exist for much longer, even though I have tried to stop this."

"What do you mean?” John asked. “Aren’t you the one causing this sickness?"

"Me? I am not the cause of this, or at least I don't want to be," Eler Cahro said, but just as he finished speaking, his face twisted, causing him to look quite mad before he added. "That's right, brat, it was I who did this. You humans are so pathetic. It took me weeks to find a suitable host who was capable of using magic."

As he finished speaking, Eler Cahro's face returned to normal before he said, "Ahh, shut up. I did nothing; it was all you, damn monster."

"Monster? Hahahaha." Eler Cahro replied as his face twisted again. "Maybe I am, but now that I have control of your body, our plan can begin."

"Our?" Mel asked.

"Hehehehe, oh, did I perchance say too much? Well, no matter, you will be dead soon, and your delicious human blood will be used to empower the spell, and I might even feast on a little." The crazy Eler Cahro said before he suddenly sniffed and looked at the pair while asking. "Why do I sense such strong magical power from you both? "Are you really both human? Perhaps you're half-elves?"

{That’s the second time someone's commented about me having strong magical power.} John thought while Mel’s fingers unperceptibly twitched.

"Well, no matter,” Eler Cahro continued. “I will find out for myself after I taste your blood when I hang your body out to drain on a spike, hehehe."

Eler Cahro's face returned to normal, though with a painful look as he said, “Please, you must kill me now so that we can stop this monster's magic before it activates."

"What is this magic circle for?" John asked.

"It's a summoning spell similar to what we necromancers use to call forth our contracted minions, except this one is on a much larger scale,” Eler Cahro explained. “He plans to summon a legion of demons from the underworld.

Eler Cahro's face turned crazy again before he laughed and said, "That’s right, foolish humans. With your powerful blood, I will be able to complete the summoning far quicker than I originally thought, and my master will reward me greatly. NOW DIE, DARKNESS BOLT!”

John and Mel had both been on alert the whole time, and so quickly dodged as the crazy Eler Cahro fired off a shadow ball in their direction and barely managed to dodge it before they fired back with arcane missiles.

"Shit, even with his defence halved, I only did eighteen damage," John cursed before asking. “How did we dodge his darkness bolt, but those bullies couldn’t dodge our arcane missiles?”

“Is now really the time?” Mel asked in annoyance. John was about to reply when Eler Cahro suddenly appeared in front of him and said, “Darkness Bolt"

"AH FUCK!" John yelled as the darkness bolt hit him from point-blank range and sent him tumbling backwards.

"HEHEEHEHE, how do you like that, human brat?"

“The fuck?” Mel cursed. “He can use Blink? I thought he was a necromancer.”

“No one ever; this body was originally a necromancer,” Crazy Eler Cahro replied with a chuckle before he began gathering dark energy in his hand and said. "Now try this for size."

"Oh shit!" John cursed as he recognised a charged attack like Samwise and Ninetails had used against him previously.

“Get to cover,” Mel directed as she dashed towards the nearest tree, with John mimicking her action. The pair just managed to dive behind a tree when crazy Eler Cahro said, "Darkness Blast"

The Darkness Blast hit the tree with a loud bang and made it shake as twigs fell from above.

"HEHEHEHE Are we playing hide and seek now?"

{I hate to say it, but this is going to take a while; our best option is to keep evading his attacks while periodically launching our own.} John thought as he pulled out a health potion and downed it.

John peeked his head out around the tree to see Eler Cahro waiting before he suddenly said, "Darkness Bolt."

John whipped his head back just in time, causing the darkness bolt to fly past the tree and into the forest.

{I need to somehow get to Mel without being hit.} John thought as he looked around, trying to find a way to reach her without being left out in the open.

"COME OUT HERE, YOU HUMAN VERMIN!" Crazy Eler Cahro screamed. "DARKNESS BOLT!"

John heard the sound of the attack hitting a tree; however, since he didn’t move, he assumed that the attack had been aimed at Mel this time and so continued to search for a way to reach Mel when, a second later, Crazy Eler Cahro once again yelled “DARKNESS BOLT!” causing his tree to shake this time.

John took the opportunity during the one-second cast time his spell seemed to have to stick his head out and observe the situation before he quickly pulled it back. {He is still standing in the magic circle; the sane Eler Cahro did say he was trying to corrupt it, so maybe he’s unable to leave it.}

“DARKNESS BOLT!” Crazy Eler Cahro screamed before another impact sound came from Mel’s direction.

{Wait, he seems to be alternating his attack between us; perhaps we can use that.}
