[Welcome to the Underworld.]

[The gates to the underworld now have a new guardian, and as such, the penalty for death has changed. Upon a player's death in Genesis, they will now be transported to the underworld to face judgment by the three judges of death.]

[These judges will determine what penalty your death will incur, and it can range anywhere from six to twenty-four hours.]

[If unhappy with the judge's decision, players can opt for a trial by combat where they will face a random denizen of death who is within five levels of their own. Winning the trial by combat will allow you to decrease your sentence by eighty percent; however, losing will increase your punishment by eighty percent, so choose wisely before deciding to make the challenge.]

[With access to the underworld now becoming available, new classes that are exclusive to the underworld are also now available for players to find and seize, should the three fates smile upon them.]

[Certain items are now able to be transferred between players' access bands outside of Genesis; however, you will have to discover for yourselves what these items are.]

[The gods have begun to take notice of those of the lower realms; however, that is not necessarily a good thing.]

“SOOOO COOOOOOOL,” Josh shouted excitedly after he finished reading the notification, which caused April to frown and say in complaint, “Too loud.”

John glanced over at Josh and shook his head before returning his attention to his food; however, before he could, his access band received another notification.

[Genesis Notice: The Sheolarbiter badge in your possession is an item that can be traded outside of Genesis.]

[Genesis Notice: Since you are no longer able to become a Sheolarbiter, the badge will most likely leave you once it finds another suitable contender to be a Sheolarbiter. You might want to consider trading it to someone without a class before it can.]

{Huh!} John thought in surprise as he reread the notifications. {The Sheolarbiter badge is one of the items that can be transferred via access bands? That's surprising, though I guess the part about it leaving me in the near future is not all that surprising. Still, do I need to die for someone to claim it, like with how I received it? The notification doesn’t make it sound that way.}

John went back to his food while thinking about the notifications he had received, while those around him broke out into discussions about the update announcement.

“Do you think the mention of the new guardian of the underworld is the new unique class John got?” Melissa asked in a hushed whisper after reading the notification.

The group of four beauties had just had their food delivered to their table when Tia dropped the information on the content patch. Previously, men and women alike had been admiring the group of four, but now everyone was more focused on the content patch information, which was fine by them

“Maybe,” Sarah replied before turning to Shizu and asking. “You said John’s new class was called Warden, correct?”

“That’s right,” Shizu nodded. “The name itself definitely makes one think of a tank class.”

“It’s about time Genesis received another tank class,” Adria complained. “Up until now, it was only Guardians that were a pure tank class; druids and shamans can do it, but the druid is a type of jack of all trades, and you have to specifically build it around tanking, while the shaman is more of an off-tank.”

Sarah nodded before adding, “This new death penalty system is much better; just the fact that we might not have to wait twelve hours now is great.”

“True, plus it sounds like we will get to continue playing and even challenge the ruling if we're not happy with it,” Adria added while nodding in agreement.

Shizu, however, frowned slightly before asking, “But what factors do the three judges take into account when passing judgment? Also, just because you can challenge the ruling doesn't mean you’ll win.”

“Shizu’s right,” Melissa stated. “It only says within five levels; that means the random opponent could be five levels higher or lower than you, and it also doesn’t mention that they have to be of the same rank as you.”

“Having to deal with an enemy both five levels higher and a higher rank would certainly make things difficult, plus an eighty percent increase in punishment means that someone could potentially face a forty-three-hour lockout,” Adria grumbled.

“On the flip side, if you receive the lowest six hours of punishment and challenge that and win, you would only be locked out a little over an hour,” Sarah remarked before asking. “What items do you suppose we will be allowed to transfer while in the real world?”

The other three women merely shook their heads, indicating that they had no idea, before Melissa noted, “The last sentence about the gods seems to indicate that they will play a larger role in Genesis in the future.”

“It’s possible Tia designed Genesis to grow around the players' decisions, and while she’s never officially confirmed a main story quest, players have always hypothesised its existence,” Sarah explained. “Yours and John’s meeting with the gods of the underworld probably put the game on this path.”

Melissa nodded before adding thoughtfully, “Possibly, or perhaps this was Tia’s plan all along; she did provide John with that badge as part of his opportunity, which is what ultimately led us to the underworld.”

“There is no way for us to know if that badge was even connected with John’s opportunity,” Adria replied. “At least unless she admits it.”

“Do you really believe a new player in the starter village somehow came into possession of a badge related to getting a class in the underworld?” Melissa asked doubtfully. “Because I certainly don’t.”

“Well, when you put it like that,” Adria said in agreement.

Sarah ate a mouthful of food before looking at Shizu and asking in a low voice, “What about your Mesmer class? Any progress?”

“No,” Shizu replied. “The gods seemed focused entirely on John after Elrinia brought us to the underworld, especially after Astraea appeared. I figure Elrinia will discuss it with me after I log back in, assuming she's not pissed at Astraea for sending John away.”

“Any idea where she sent him?” Sarah asked, but Shizu just shook her head.

“I might have a theory,” Melissa suddenly said, attracting their attention. “As you know, I returned to the Seven Circles Enclave after we finished our discussion with Elrinia’s clone, as I need to work on my class mission…”

“Wait, wait, wait,” Adria said, cutting her off with a surprised expression. “You're suggesting he was sent to the Seven Circles Enclave?”

Melissa nodded and continued, “Shortly after my return, the Seven Circles Council, whom I was speaking with at the time, all seemed to focus their attention in one direction while revealing shocked expressions; however, I was logged out before I could ask what was wrong.”

“He does have the blessing of Lord Ursa, who resides within the Seven Circles Enclave, and Astraea is part of the same pantheon as Lord Ursa, so it’s possible she sent him there. I just don’t know why she would,” Adria mused.

“Speaking of Elrinia’s clone, what exactly did you all talk about?” Shizu asked curiously, but before any of them could respond, she received a notification on her access band.

“Oh!” Shizu said in surprise as she read the message, causing Adria to ask. “Something interesting.”

“For the three of us perhaps, but not for you,” Shizu teased before continuing. “Shelur is asking if I know any tanks or healers who would be interested in joining a dungeon run.”

“Oh, her!” Adria replied with a frown before focusing on her food, while the other three women chuckled at her reaction, and Melissa said. “She's really not that bad, you know. You two just have a rivalry because your mothers share one.”

“Whatever,” Adria retorted in a stubborn manner.

The other three women shook their heads before Sarah asked, “She should have only just started playing like Melissa and John, right? What level is she?”

“Umm, level twelve,” Shizu replied after sending a message asking. “Oh, her party already consists of Vulxis Noxmeila and Erindroulydd Ironbasher.”

“That’s quite the hefty lineup,” Sarah whistled while Adria tried not to show any interest.

Shizu nodded and turned to Melissa, asking, “So what about it? Want to go help them out?”

“I would, but my class quest actually requires me to find an animal to make a pact with, so I can learn my first wild morph,” Melissa replied before asking. “What type of dungeon is it?”

“One sec, I’ll ask,” Shizu replied, and a few seconds later replied. “A bandit's hideout, too bad.”

“Yeah, that's no good. I doubt I’ll find many animals there,” Melissa said in disappointment before asking. “Why don’t you go?”

“I don’t know what role my class will fill, but judging from Elrinia, I doubt it will be a healer or tank,” Shizu replied.

“True, she definitely gives off that ranged DPS vibe,” Sarah chuckled before adding, “You could at least recommend John to them as a tank.”

“That’s true.” Shizu nodded before sending the message.
