Mei was still scrolling through the Reputation Store interface when a sudden static noise jolted her...

It was coming from a radio.

The noise was irregular, like metal grinding against stone... She frowned after hearing this since she felt that it was a bad sign... She then adjusted the dial.

Sshh~ Ssshh~

Then, through the distortion, Russel’s voice burst out... He was panicked, hurried, almost trembling!

"Mei! Do you copy? This is Russel! I’m being chased... seven of them! New type of Sentinels... humanoid, but their arms... are blades! Both arms are blades!"

The words spilled out fast... It was broken by static.

Mei stiffened as she realized that her hunch was right!

There was indeed something wrong.

Around her, survivors nearby stopped what they were doing, sensing the urgency in his tone.

Russel’s voice could then be heard again, louder this time.

"They’re fast! Too fast! I had to abandon the hill! Wait... I’ve got... escape route planned, motorbikes ready... I need instructions! Do I bring them toward the base... or do I lure them into the forest filled with traps?"

Mei’s grip tightened on the radio.

She glanced at Wallace, who was already listening from across the courtyard. His expression was grim as he processed the situation. Other officers also had their faces filled with resolve.

"To the base... Wait... No, lure them to the forest!" Mei immediately corrected herself as she looked at Atom.

Then, she heard Russel’s breathing. It was heavy and audible even through the static.

"Seven bladed‑arm Sentinels... They can leap high!"

Mei nodded.

If Russel lead them to the base, they could certainly easily win against these new Sentinels.

But it would be a problem since it would expose their shelter if the information was sent out.

Mei sighed... He could only hope that Russel could escape faster.

The shelter was cloaked by Claire’s illusion device, hidden beneath the guise of a forested hill. But if the Sentinels were allowed too close, if they detected anomalies in the terrain, the A.I. Army might uncover their camouflage. That risk was unacceptable.

She looked at Wallace again...

Finally, he spoke through his radio.

"Russel. Just like what Mei said. Do not bring them to the base. Repeat... do not bring them here. Pass through the forest. We’ve prepared traps along the ravine. Lead them there. We’ll destroy or capture them away from the shelter."

Mei nodded quickly, reinforcing the command. "Our illusion must remain unknown. If the A.I. realizes we’ve hidden the shelter, they’ll send more. We can’t afford that. Take them into the forest... We’ll use the traps. Don’t let them near us."

Russell’s reply came fast.

"Understood. I’ll draw them into the ravine. I’ll bait them, then cut across the forest path. If the traps work, we’ll cripple them. If not..." His voice trailed for a moment before he continued. "I hope you all can save me."

The radio hissed, then cleared.

Mei could hear the roar of engines in the background, the crunch of dirt under tires, and the metallic shriek of Sentinels pursuing him...

Meanwhile, the forest was filled with the sound of engines. Russel’s motorbike tore through the vegetation... Then soon, mud was spraying everywhere as he leaned hard into every turn. Behind him, seven units followed.

They were bladed‑arm Sentinels, and they were not planning to stop the chase any time soon.

It was as if they were waiting for Russel to bring them to his base.

Russel gritted his teeth.

No... you’re not getting the shelter. You’ll bleed in this forest first.

He swerved sharply, guiding the chase toward the valley where traps had been laid days earlier.

"Die!"

The first was a line of hidden spike pits covered with leaves. He gunned the throttle, leapt his bike over the narrow gap, and heard the crunch behind him as one Sentinel misjudged the landing.

Thud!

Its blade arms flailed as it fell into the pit, impaled on sharpened stakes.

Sparks erupted, but the others adjusted instantly, vaulting over the trap with eerie precision.

"Damn it... only slowed one," Russel muttered.

Further ahead, he triggered a tripwire. A cluster of weighted logs swung down from the canopy, smashing into two Sentinels!

One was knocked off balance, tumbling into the undergrowth, while the other raised its blades to block, splintering the logs but staggering backward.

Russel grinned briefly. "That’s two more stalled."

Just like that, Russel tried to use various traps, but not all of them could give satisfactory results. Still, with so many traps used, they at least slowed down.

Soon, another wire snapped beneath his tires, and a net of steel cables shot upward, tangling one Sentinel...

Its blades slashed furiously, cutting through the cords, but not before Russel gained precious distance.

"Come on... come on..." he whispered.

The final trap was the most dangerous... a concealed minefield buried beneath loose soil. Russel veered sharply, skimming the edge of the marked path.

Thud.

The Sentinels followed, triggering the pressure plates!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Explosions ripped through the forest, and fire and shrapnel immediately tore into their ranks.

Two were blown apart instantly as their parts were scattered across the dirt.

Another moved awkwardly as one blade arm was already mangled.

Russel’s heart pounded. "This is really troubling."

But the surviving Sentinels were cautious now. They slowed, their movements were on a certain distance.

They’re gathering data. If they learn too much, the A.I. Army will know everything.

Russel felt conflicted.

Nonetheless, he pushed the bike harder, but his arms trembled, exhaustion was finally setting in.

"Shit... I need to drink a potion."

The Sentinels closed in again with blades slicing through trees.

Russel’s escape route was collapsing.

Then, a shadow streaked overhead. The roar of engines filled the air. Russel looked up, relief flooding his chest.

Atom had arrived... mounted on the Dragoon!

The bladed Sentinels halted, as if they were cautious once more.

This time, they weren’t rushing blindly. They were waiting, studying the mysterious Sentinel above them!

Russel also skidded to a stop as he realized that the reinforcements had arrived.

"Finally... Atom."

***

A few minutes ago, Mei looked at the Black Sentinel...

"Atom," she said firmly. "Russel is being hunted. Seven Units are after him. They’re bladed‑arm Sentinels. He’s leading them into the forest traps, but he won’t last alone. You will go. Save him."

The Sentinel did not move, but its optics shifted, locking onto Mei.

She exhaled, then added, "Use the Dragoon. It’s the fastest way. You’ll need speed to intercept before they cut him down."

A murmur rippled through the survivors nearby.

The Dragoon was infamous... an unstable, modified flying jetski that few dared to pilot. Even Wallace frowned.

"Mei... are you sure? That machine isn’t easy to control."

Mei’s gaze didn’t waver. "I know. But Atom isn’t like us. If anyone can handle it, it’s him."

For a moment, she wasn’t sure if Atom would understand. The Dragoon required balance, precision, and instinct.

But then, the Sentinel’s optics blinked.

Its systems processed the command, recalling Russel’s face, his voice, and the coordinates of the forest.

Without hesitation, Atom turned, striding toward the Dragoon.

The machine’s engines hummed as it mounted...

Just like that, the roar of turbines filled the air, and in a burst of speed, Atom shot skyward!

Mei tightened her grip on the radio, speaking once more. "Russel, hold on. Atom is coming. Lead them deeper into the ravine. The traps will probably just weaken them, and Atom will finish the job."

She had no idea if Russel heard her voice, but it should be just fine with Atom making its move!

And with that, the Rank S Sentinel vanished into the forest, ready to clash with the bladed‑arm machines.

Still, Russel’s bike skidded across a slope, nearly tipping.

It was dangerous!

Still, he was able to steady it... as the Sentinels closed in. One leapt high, blades gleaming, aiming to cleave him in two. Russel ducked, the blade missing by inches, carving a tree trunk instead.

"Damn it!" he shouted, twisting the throttle. The bike surged forward, but the Sentinels were moving so fast...

Their movements weren’t mindless; they were cautious, coordinated, as if studying him.

Then, a shadow passed overhead.

Whoosh~ Russel looked up, and soon, he was filled with excitement!

Atom descended on the Dragoon!

Nonetheless, Atom dismounted mid‑air, landing with a thunderous impact that cracked the earth beneath its feet!

But for some reason, the seven-bladed Sentinels circled, showing that they’re cautious of Atom’s appearance!

Then, their eyes glowed red, scanning Atom, recording every movement. They did not rush blindly.

It seemed that they were gathering data.

Atom’s systems processed all of this instantly.

[ Threat level: high. Objective: eliminate pursuers. Protect Russel. ]

The first Sentinel charged...

However, Atom just sidestepped, and its armored hand then moved forward to catch the blade!

Thud!

Sparks erupted as metal met another metal...

With a turn, Atom wrenched the blade downward before driving its knee into the Sentinel’s chest.

Bam!

The machine crumpled, and just like that, its circuits burst before Atom hurled it into a tree!

Boom!
