Wallace slowly nodded.

That was something he couldn’t disagree with.

The Codebreakers Shelter already had its own poultry grounds, and the chickens they had obtained previously had proven to be extremely valuable. Eggs were now a regular part of the shelter’s food supply, and they had even begun incubating some of them in an attempt to expand the flock.

However, what stood before him was on an entirely different scale.

With goats, sheep, rabbits, ducks, and cattle, the shelter could develop a proper livestock industry instead of relying entirely on a small poultry farm and Kai’s Food Gift Packs.

"We’re interested," Wallace finally said.

Edwin’s expression immediately brightened.

"I was hoping you would say that."

Boris pulled out a small tablet from inside his coat and began explaining the prices.

The transaction took some time.

After nearly half an hour of negotiation, the two sides finally settled on the deal.

The Codebreakers Shelter would purchase fifty laying hens, ten roosters, twenty ducks, twenty rabbits, ten goats, eight sheep, and four cattle.

The fifty hens and ten roosters would immediately expand the shelter’s existing poultry operation, while the ducks and rabbits would provide additional sources of eggs and meat.

The goats and sheep could eventually provide milk, meat, and wool, while the cattle represented the most valuable part of the transaction. Even if they were difficult to raise, four healthy cattle could eventually become the foundation of a much larger herd.

In total, the caravan was bringing 122 animals into the Codebreakers Shelter.

The two merchants were primarily interested in C-Grade Energy Cores.

Fortunately, that wasn’t a problem for Codebreakers.

Kai had provided the shelter with enough resources that paying for the livestock wouldn’t significantly affect their reserves, especially considering the long-term value of the animals. As a matter of fact, while Energy Cores could be absorbed by Foreign Survivors to grow stronger, there was also a limit to how many cores they could effectively use. Once a survivor reached a certain point, accumulating more cores was far less valuable than it had been during their early growth... After all, there was a limit to how much they could absorb per month.

After calculating the value of the animals, Edwin and Boris asked for five hundred and forty C-Grade Energy Cores for the entire shipment.

Althea, who had been called over to finalize the transaction, didn’t immediately agree.

She carefully inspected the list of animals and their condition before making her own calculations. After several minutes of discussion, she managed to negotiate the price down to five hundred and ten C-Grade Energy Cores.

Edwin and Boris exchanged a glance before finally accepting.

"Five hundred and ten," Edwin said. "For all 122 animals."

"Correct."

"Then we have a deal."

Althea nodded.

Soon, five hundred and ten C-Grade Energy Cores were transferred from the Codebreakers Shelter’s reserves to the merchants.

In return, Edwin and Boris handed over ownership of the livestock they had transported.

The transaction was finally complete.

For the merchants, it was an excellent deal. They had converted livestock that required constant food and care during their journey into a valuable supply of Energy Cores that could be used to strengthen their own people or traded with other settlements.

For Codebreakers, however, the value of the purchase went far beyond the Energy Cores they had spent.

They had just acquired the foundation of a proper livestock industry.

The only problem was that they now had to figure out how to take care of 122 new animals.

However, just as the agreement was about to be finalized, Boris suddenly glanced toward Althea.

"There is one more thing."

Althea looked at him.

"What is it?"

"We heard that your shelter possesses Gene Stimulants. Ahem... Diego mentioned it after he had visited your shelter."

Althea didn’t immediately answer.

She was the person responsible for managing the shelter’s supply of Gene Stimulants, and she understood exactly why the merchants were interested.

Gene Stimulants were extremely valuable.

Even the weaker versions could potentially help survivors strengthen their bodies and increase their chances of surviving in the wasteland. Unfortunately, most of the Gene Stimulants circulating among survivors came with dangerous side effects.

Some caused mutations... others damaged the body.

There were even cases where people died after using them.

The Gene Stimulants controlled by Codebreakers were completely different. They came from Kai’s Gift Packs.

Their quality was so high that the negative effects were almost nonexistent aside from some temporary weakness that could be easily negated with a higher vitality.

Of course, that didn’t mean Althea was willing to sell them without consideration.

"Why are you asking?"

Boris exchanged a glance with Edwin.

"We’ve been traveling between settlements for quite some time. We’ve seen plenty of Gene Stimulants but most of them aren’t worth the risk."

"That is an understatement," Boris added. "We’ve seen people lose their minds after taking them. Some developed temporary mutations, while others became too weak to even walk."

Althea remained silent.

"We heard yours are different."

"We’re willing to trade for them," Edwin said. "Energy cores, livestock, or other resources. We can discuss the price."

Althea considered the proposal.

The Codebreakers Shelter had no shortage of Gene Stimulants at the moment. Kai’s resources had given them access to a steady supply, and the shelter wasn’t using all of them immediately.

However, that didn’t mean they could sell them carelessly. After all, they wouldn’t want their own items to be in the hands of their enemy.

"How many do you want?"

Boris hesitated.

"A hundred if possible!"

But he immediately realized how eager he sounded and coughed lightly before straightening his expression.

"If the price is reasonable, of course. We have a number of settlements that are interested in reliable Gene Stimulants. If what Diego told us is true, your supply could be extremely valuable to us."

Althea glanced at Edwin.

The older merchant nodded.

"We are prepared to pay properly for them."

Althea thought for a moment before answering.

"Alright... In case you’re interested, we also have Spirit-Boosting Vials aside from Gene Stimulant Injectors."

The two were shocked as they heard this.

"How about this... One low-grade Gene Weapon for eighteen Gene Stimulants? If you have Gene Skill Crystals, we can give five Gene Stimulants and five Spirit-Boosting Vials..."

The two merchants stared at Althea as if they had suddenly forgotten how to speak. They had expected Gene Stimulants, and they had even been prepared to pay a considerable price for them. However, Spirit-Boosting Vials were something else entirely.

Edwin’s expression became noticeably more serious.

"You’re saying you can provide both Gene Stimulants and Spirit-Boosting Vials?"

"That’s what I said."

Boris swallowed quietly. His reaction was understandable. Spirit-Boosting Vials were far rarer than ordinary Gene Stimulants. While Gene Stimulants could strengthen the physical body, Spirit-Boosting Vials could directly enhance a survivor’s spiritual energy and improve their ability to control their powers.

In this apocalypse, where strength determined everything, the difference was enormous. A reliable Gene Stimulant could help an ordinary survivor become stronger, but a reliable Spirit-Boosting Vial could potentially allow an already powerful survivor to fight even stronger A.I. Soldiers.

The two merchants exchanged another glance, and this time their expressions were completely different. They were no longer looking at Althea as merchants negotiating a simple trade. Instead, they were looking at her as if they had just discovered that the Codebreakers Shelter possessed a treasure vault.

Edwin looked at Althea carefully.

"That doesn’t seem like a particularly favorable exchange for you."

Althea gave him a calm look.

"Then you don’t have to trade."

The blunt answer immediately silenced him.

He understood what Althea was doing. She wasn’t desperate to sell. That meant the Codebreakers Shelter already had enough resources to satisfy its own needs and was simply offering its excess supplies in exchange for things it considered valuable.

"Ahem... I mean... I believe we can come to an agreement."

He then called for one of the servants to bring a box from their wagon.

Inside were several transparent crystals, each containing a faint glow that seemed to move beneath its surface.

Althea’s eyes narrowed.

"Gene Skill Crystals."

"Five of them," Edwin said as he carefully placed the crystals on the table...

Althea didn’t immediately respond. She picked up the first crystal and examined it carefully before putting it down and inspecting the second. She repeated the process with the remaining three crystals, paying close attention to each one before finally returning her gaze to the merchants.

"Five Random Gene Skill Crystals... Low-Grade," she said.

"Twenty-five Gene Stimulants and another twenty-five Spirit-Boosting Vials."

"It might seem like they were spending a lot of Gene Stimulants and Spirit-Boosting Vials, but it had to be remembered that both were consumable items."

However, the Gene Skills that they could obtain from the crystals were all permanent. They were something that was already attached to their bodies unless they used them as a Fusion Material for a stronger Gene Skill.

Still, Edwin seemed to be probing more about what they could supply.

"Ahem... If you want, you can just give us half of it. In exchange, can we have one Atmospheric Water Generator instead?"
