Global Descent: I Alone Can See Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 92: hidden ringMin-jae sat on the middle of the soft leather couch, his face bright red. His ears felt like they were on fire. On his right side, Ji-a was holding his neck tightly, her violet eyes staring down Medusa. On his left side, Xiao and Seo-yoon were leaning their heavy, soft bodies right against his shoulder. At his knees, Medusa was looking up at him with teary, loving eyes, still holding out her silver spoon.
"Ji-a, let go of his neck a little bit, you’re choking him," Han Seo-yoon said, crossing her arms. Her sapphire eyes looked very jealous. "And look at your new gown. You’re wrinkling the silk just to push yourself closer to him. It’s not fair to the rest of us."
"I don’t care about the silk!" Ji-a huffed, her face flushing pink as she squeezed Min-jae’s arm even tighter against her side. "Min-jae promised me last night that we would look at the map together. Then the second we sit down, Medusa jumps onto the floor and tries to feed him! I’m his first wife, I should be the one taking care of him!"
"A first wife shouldn’t be so loud," the Ice Goddess, Gu Bylai, said softly. She sat near his feet, her pale blue silk dress spread out beautifully on the rug. She reached up and gently touched Min-jae’s hot cheek with her cool fingers. "Husband, your skin is burning. Don’t listen to their shouting. Just eat the fruit I cleaned for you."
"Hey! Don’t touch his face either!" Cynthia and Elena, the twin sisters, yelled at the same time. They were sitting on the other side of the low table, their long red and blue silk gowns twisting together as they leaned forward.
"We traveled for three days in that tight carriage and barely got to say a word to him," Cynthia said, looking very pouted and sad. "Every time we wanted to talk, Ji-a or Xiao took up all the space. Now that we are in a private room, we want to sit next to him too!"
"Yes," Elena agreed, her voice trembling a little with real emotion. "We are his wifes too. We want to help him get the Divine Flame, but we also want him to look at us sometimes. Min-jae, look over here."
Min-jae looked at the twins, his face turning an even deeper shade of crimson. His fixer brain was completely stuck. He could defeat gods, but dealing with ten beautiful women who all truly loved him and wanted his attention made his heart beat even faster. He slowly took his hands out and cleared his throat.
"I am looking at you," Min-jae said slowly, his voice dropping into a low, flustered baritone. He looked around the room at all ten of them. "All of you are my wives. I don’t care about one more than the others. This dual-cultivation loop connects all of us. When you refine energy, I get it too. We are a family."
"Then show it!" Lady Crimson said with a sharp but beautiful smile. She was sitting near the window, her long dark-red gown shining under the lamps. "You always look so deadpan, but your ears are totally red right now. It’s cute."
"Stop teasing him, Crimson," Shin Ye-rin said, though she was smiling too. Her silver-and-white gown made her look like a beautiful queen. She walked over from the glass viewport and sat down on the armrest next to Min-jae. "But seriously, husband. You need to tell us how we are going to handle the bidding. Chae-won has all the gold ready, but the people downstairs are getting noisy."
"The gold is totally locked and loaded, boss!" Han Chae-won yelled happily from the corner, her cheeks puffed up as she held a glowing spatial pouch. "We have millions! We can buy anything!"
Min-jae felt a wave of relief when the talk shifted back to the mission. He looked through the large glass window of their private box down at the main auction stage below.
The Treasury Moon Auction House was packed. Hundreds of powerful cultivators from the local Fire Clan and other hidden factions were sitting in the seats below, their red and orange robes making the room look like a sea of flames. In the center of the stage, an old auctioneer was holding up a glowing crimson scroll—the secret map that showed exactly where the Divine Flame would appear in two months.
"The starting bid is one million spirit coins!" the old man shouted down below.
"Two million!" a young man in the front row yelled immediately. It was the young prince of the local Blazing Fire Clan, looking very arrogant with his ruby crown. "No one else should bother bidding! This flame belongs to my family!"
"He’s very annoying," Medusa said, her voice turning cold as she looked down at the prince. She turned back to Min-jae, her eyes melting into pure adoration again. "Husband, let’s take everything he has."
Min-jae grinned a little, his dark eyes flashing with a cold focus. He looked at the golden smoke of his system interface floating in front of him.
[Sovereign Cultivation Interface Active!]
[Target Isolated: The Crimson Scroll (Divine Flame Map).]
[Scanning Object... 100% Success!]
[Hidden Fact: The scroll downstairs is only a fake copy made by the Fire Clan to trick people! The real map is hidden inside the old auctioneer’s own spatial ring on his finger!]
Min-jae’s eyes narrowed. He looked at Chae-won and then at Ye-rin.
"Don’t bid on the scroll," Min-jae said smoothly, his voice full of quiet confidence. "The scroll on the stage is a fake. The Fire Clan prince put it there to waste everyone’s money. The real map is inside the old auctioneer’s ring."
"What? A fake?" Yoo Ji-a asked, her violet eyes turning sharp. She leaned closer to his ear, her hair brushing his neck. "Then what are we going to do? Should I go down there and take the ring with my spear?"
"No," Min-jae said, looking at Liu Xiao. "Xiao, use a tiny thread of your nature roots. Slide it through the floorboards, reach the stage, and swap his real ring with a fake copy from our inventory while everyone is screaming about the bids. Can you do it without making a sound?"
Liu Xiao smiled beautifully, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "For my husband? It’s too easy."
She sat up straight, her long green-and-white silk gown rippling as she closed her emerald eyes. A microscopic, glowing green root slowly slipped out from under her dress, sinking straight into the floorboards without a single sound.
Down below, the Fire Clan prince was laughing loudly. "Five million spirit coins! The map is mine! No one can match my family’s wealth!"
While the whole crowd was cheering and shouting at the huge price, Liu Xiao’s tiny root reached the stage. With a quick, gentle twist, it slipped the real ring off the old man’s finger and replaced it with a common iron copy from Chae-won’s bag. The root quickly traveled back up into the private box, dropping the real glowing ring straight into Min-jae’s open palm.
Min-jae closed his hand around the ring, a dark, satisfied smile on his face.
"Got it," Min-jae murmured.
The ten girls looked at the ring in his hand and then looked at him with absolute pride and love. They didn’t just see a powerful warrior; they saw a man who could out-smart the highest clans in the higher plane without even standing up from his couch.
"You’re amazing, Min-jae," Yoo Ji-a said softly, her face flushing bright red as she suddenly leaned in and kissed his cheek quickly.
"Hey! No fair!" Medusa and Seo-yoon yelled immediately, their faces turning completely red with jealousy as they tried to push themselves even closer to him. The twins and Chae-won started complaining loudly again, their long silk gowns tangling up as they all tried to grab his arms.
Min-jae sat perfectly trapped, his face burning completely red as his wives started their playful bickering all over again. The apocalypse was over, but his own private lounge was a beautiful, chaotic warzone of pure love, and he knew his adventure with his ten immortal wives was only getting started.
