Global PvP Tower: I Can Infinitely Merge My Units
Chapter 28: Defeated Without Seeing A FaceThe crimson arrow held steady through two more hours of walking, weaving them around anything that looked like real trouble and straight through anything that didn’t.
They found the base sitting in a shallow bowl of cleared land, walls decent but nowhere close to what Logan had built for himself, the kind of place put up by someone still learning the difference between defense and decoration.
"Same as always," Logan said. "Whatever’s worth taking, bag it. Don’t leave the core standing."
The walls didn’t last long against six Mythic-rank units with nothing better to do. Shard put a shoulder through the nearest stretch and kept walking, stone and mortar giving way like it had never really been there, and the rest of them poured in behind him before the defenders inside had finished registering the noise.
Logan worked through the wreckage himself, one of Stitchgrin’s bags slung over his shoulder, feeding anything worth keeping into it, materials and gear and half-finished projects all vanishing into a space that seemed to hold far more than its size should have allowed.
The player himself didn’t put up much of a fight. One look at what had just torn through his walls was enough to convince him running wasn’t going to help either. He tried anyway.
’SURRENDER!’
The word tore out of him a full second before Tide even got close enough to make it necessary.
Juggernaut put a shell through the territory core once the fighting stopped, and the whole base flickered out of existence around them, walls and buildings alike dissolving into nothing.
```
[ You have defeated a player. Player L now has 3 eliminations. ]
[ Territory Core destroyed. +4,200 Tower Points. ]
```
Logan glanced at the panel, filed the number away, and looked at the crimson arrow still pulling them onward.
"Let’s keep moving."
He had no idea, not yet, that three hundred kilometers behind him, his own walls were about to be tested for real.
---
Marcus had been circling the territory for the better part of an hour, the Flame Drake beneath him banking slow, lazy loops through the high clouds while he studied the walls below.
A castle. Four stories of it, ringed by walls thick enough to swallow a small army without noticing, watchtowers standing at every cardinal point.
Marcus grinned down at it from a mile up.
’Somebody’s been busy.’
A quick scan tagged the territory for him. Player L. He’d seen that name before, tied with his own on the elimination leaderboard, and he’d wondered more than once exactly who he was sharing first place with.
Didn’t matter who they were. A fortress this size meant resources worth taking, and resources worth taking meant a rival worth eliminating before they got any more of an idea about themselves.
He dropped altitude and signaled the rest of his army forward.
The Flame Drake screamed a challenge that rolled across the whole valley, and behind it came the rest of what his parents’ money had bought him. A Voidscale Wyrm, black-scaled and vast, matched pace on his other side. An Ironclad Paladin marched below, armor heavy enough to leave real dents in the ground with every step. Thirty more summons filled in the gaps between them, common foot soldiers mostly, with a scattered handful sharper than the rest.
```
3x Legendary
3x Epic
27x Normal, Uncommon, and Rare (mixed)
"Burn it down," Marcus said, and meant it.
Billy saw them coming first, off the watchtower he’d taken to using as a lookout post out of pure boredom.
"Boss is gonna be so mad he missed this." He grinned, already rolling toward the gate. "Guess we’ll just have to handle it ourselves."
Blitzhawk met the legendary-rank Flame Drake a hundred meters up, storm clouds already gathering thick around his shoulders before the Drake finished its first breath of flame.
"Let’s see whose element wins this one." Lightning crackled down both wings.
The Drake’s fire came first, a wide gout of it screaming through the air. Blitzhawk didn’t dodge it. He flew straight through instead, storm-given flesh boiling the flame away before it ever touched anything solid enough to burn.
Thunderking’s Blade answered before the Drake finished recovering from its own attack, and the fight, such as it was, ended there.
Vex found the legendary-rank Voidscale Wyrm’s shadow before the Wyrm ever found him, stepping out of one patch of darkness and into the beast’s own the same way he’d have walked through an open door.
Reaper’s Black Flame opened the Wyrm’s throat from the inside before it registered that something else had just claimed its own territory.
The legendary-rank Ironclad Paladin hit Juggernaut’s front line like it actually expected to move him.
It didn’t. Juggernaut planted all four feet and let the impact happen, Offloading Barrier flaring up bright enough that the Paladin’s own sword rebounded off it before the blade finished its swing.
Destructive Roll Charge answered next, and whatever the Paladin had cost Marcus’s parents, it wasn’t enough to survive being hit by something that outweighed it by several tons.
Billy tore through the first wave of foot soldiers before they’d finished forming ranks, Severed Spokes sending detached blades spinning independently through three more lines while the rest of him kept cutting a path forward alone.
Bryowulf planted himself at the second gate and howled once, long and clear, and every wolf-type thing anywhere near the battlefield turned to answer it. Packcall didn’t discriminate between summoned and wild. It just worked.
Stitchgrin didn’t bother fighting the horde directly. He just started eating it, one soldier at a time, patting his own stomach with quiet satisfaction after every swallow.
The three Epic-rank stragglers Marcus had brought along didn’t last much longer than the rest, caught between six Mythic-rank units with nowhere left to retreat to.
Marcus watched his army come apart in about ninety seconds and felt something in his chest go cold.
Then something landed in front of him, and the cold turned into something closer to panic.
Gold-white armor that seemed to generate its own light. Wings made of solid light instead of feathers. A greatsword that burned steady along its whole edge. Whatever this thing was, it wasn’t anything Marcus had trained against, not in any simulation, not in any guide.
```
[ Solareign Vorpal Knight (Tier-1/Mythic) ]
```
"S-stay back!" His voice cracked in a way he hated immediately. He raised his sword anyway, starlight gathering along the blade.
Aether Pierce Bladeshot!
The attack that had one-shotted an Epic-rank dungeon boss without breaking a sweat screamed toward Solveig’s chest.
Solveig didn’t dodge. He didn’t need to. Aegis Eternal flared up a half second before the blast landed, and Marcus’s signature attack, the one that had made him feel invincible for the better part of a day, simply stopped, absorbed into a shield that hadn’t so much as flickered.
Marcus’s hands shook. He reached for something bigger, fire gathering thick around both fists, everything Fire Manipulator could give him poured into one desperate attempt.
Cinderstorm Barrage!
Flame rolled out in a wide arc, more fire than Marcus had ever actually managed to summon in practice, months of half-remembered lessons finally paying off in a single burning wall aimed straight at the knight in front of him.
Solveig walked through it.
The fire didn’t so much fail to hurt him as simply forget to try, parting around his light like it had never had any intention of touching him at all.
Marcus turned to run before he’d even finished processing that the fire hadn’t worked.
’What the fuck is going on?! WHY DOES THIS PLAYER L HAVE SO MANY MYTHIC UNITS?!’
He didn’t get three steps.
Solveig was simply there, blade resting lightly against the side of Marcus’s neck, close enough that Marcus could feel the warmth radiating off metal that had never once needed to be forged in an actual fire.
’This isn’t fair.’ The thought came out ragged, half-formed. ’I have a Legendary-rank class. I have Legendary summons. My parents spent everything on this. I was supposed to win.’
He’d read the stat sheets a hundred times over back home, run the numbers, felt untouchable every single time. Nobody in this match was supposed to be able to do this to him. Nobody was supposed to have summons that looked like they’d stepped out of a rank that shouldn’t even exist yet on Floor One.
His whole army was gone. Both of the summons his parents had spent a fortune on were gone. And he couldn’t even see the face of the person who’d done it, whoever "L" actually was, hiding behind an army that fought like it had a hundred years of experience packed into one very bad afternoon.
Something in him broke before his mind caught up to the decision.
’SURRENDER!’
The blade lifted away from his throat a half second before the world pulled him out of the fight entirely, yanked clear before Solveig had even decided whether to let the sentence finish.
Defeated without even seeing the player’s face.
```
[ You have defeated Player Marcus. Player L now has 4 eliminations. ]
```
The battlefield went quiet, smoke curling up from a dozen small fires still burning themselves out across the grass.
Billy rolled to a stop near what was left of the gate and looked around at the wreckage, grinning despite the scorched patch along one shoulder.
"Boss is definitely gonna be mad he missed this."
...
Somewhere far away, Logan sighed in relief as he saw the notification that he defeated a player.
"Wait, what? Marcus? He raided my base, and was defeated?!"
"Do you know him, Master?"
At the question asked by Tide, Logan just burst into laughter.
"Oh, I know him." Logan grinned.
’Good thing I used L as my player name instead of my real name, and he was defeated quietly without seeing me. I can’t let anyone know that the player L with this many Mythic units is Logan.’
Things could get dangerous outside the match if his talent was discovered by high-tier players, especially the bad ones, and those pretending to be good ones.
He definitely didn’t trust Marcus and his parents, or frankly, anyone.
