Global PvP Tower: I Can Infinitely Merge My Units
Chapter 39: Random Skill Book, Logan’s Decision’Two words.’
Logan looked at the two blank spaces that appeared in his mind the moment he infused mana into the stone.
’Everything interacts with minds in this Tower. How is this even possible?’
He shook his head, pulling himself back to the main problem.
Two words to shape his class. And it could still come out as any random rank.
He looked over at Romen, who was already grinning at him.
"Do you know any methods or tricks to get a higher-ranking class?"
Romen laughed. "Now, now. Why would I know that?"
Logan gave him a flat look. "Because you’re selling something like a class change crystal. Come on, tell me something useful. I just made a huge purchase."
"Hmm. Wait a second." Romen reached into his pocket, his hand moving around inside it while the pocket itself never so much as shifted, as if the inside were a whole separate space.
"Found it."
Logan blinked at what he pulled out. Similar to the class change crystal, but shaped just slightly differently.
```
[ Class Ascension Crystal ]
Increases the rank of your class by one, with a 20% chance.
Can be combined with a Class Change Crystal. Whatever class you get will be one rank higher than the original result would have been. 100% guaranteed.
Cost: 150,000 Tower Points
```
Logan went quiet for a second. "A hundred fifty thousand Tower Points? Are you kidding me?"
Romen rolled his eyes. "I’m giving it to you cheap, dumbass. Ask what this stuff costs on higher floors. Gets more expensive the higher your tier number climbs. And that’s just a twenty percent chance on its own. Paired with the Class Change Crystal, it’s a hundred percent."
It made sense that something able to bump a class up a full rank would cost that much, even at a twenty percent chance on its own.
A hundred percent guaranteed through the Class Change Crystal sounded incredible, but players high enough up the Tower who’d already built out their class through real adventures wouldn’t bother touching it. Even if they wanted to, scraping together that much in Tower Points from both items at once while still surviving everything else in a match was close to impossible, unless someone had a talent built specifically to accelerate that kind of growth.
Someone like Logan.
"This is rough." Logan clicked his tongue. "I want a new class as soon as possible, but I also want that ascension crystal."
"Go big or go home." Romen grinned.
"Luck," Logan muttered, eyes narrowing. "There has to be something out there that boosts luck, right?"
Romen blinked. "There are things like that, sure. Rare, but they exist. Artifacts that raise luck would shift the odds on a class change crystal too, if you had one."
"Then-"
"Nope." Romen cut him off with a smile before Logan finished the word. "Don’t have anything like that. Can’t sell it to you."
"I don’t know this battlefield well enough to say if there’s a secret dungeon or challenge somewhere that rewards something like that," Romen added. "Only way to find out is by covering the whole map yourself."
"Got it." Logan nodded and pulled something else out of his ring. A book, a reward from the Champion-tier Field Boss, completely white and blank.
```
[ Random Skill Book ]
Open the cover to manifest a random skill. Infuse mana afterward to learn it.
```
"That’s pretty good stuff." Romen grinned.
Logan thought for a moment. "How much for this?"
"It’s a Random Skill Book. I could give you fifty thousand for it."
"A hundred thousand, and it’s yours." Logan didn’t blink.
Romen burst out laughing. "Way too much for a random skill book. If it was a guaranteed Epic-rank one, sure, I’d pay that amount."
Logan clicked his tongue. "Screw it. Let’s see what I actually get."
He opened the cover, and the book started to change.
Romen whistled. "We can see how much luck you’ve got with this."
"Luck’s a fickle bitch." Logan shook his head.
The glow stopped. The book had turned gold, flaming orange patterns running through crimson wood inlaid with embedded ruby crystals.
Romen jumped back. "W-what the fuck? You pulled a Legendary skill!"
Logan’s mouth fell open.
```
[ Arcane Construct: Elderwood Phoenix Avatar ]
Rank: Legendary
Cost: 1000 MP (scalable)
Effect:
> Manifests an Elderwood Phoenix Avatar that inherits the same stats as the user.
> Has six skills. Two recovery, two offensive, two defensive.
> Each 100 MP spent past the base 1000 increases the Avatar’s stats by 1%.
```
"That’s good," Logan muttered. "Especially since I can use it myself."
"By the way." He glanced at Romen. "How much for this one, out of curiosity?"
"This..." Romen studied it a second longer. "This is a genuinely good Legendary, even next to other Legendaries. I could give you 220,000 for it."
Logan raised an eyebrow. "Nice."
Then he infused mana into the book, and it dissolved into a stream of energy that poured straight into his chest.
```
[ You have learned a Legendary-rank skill: Elderwood Phoenix Avatar ]
```
"..." Romen just stared at him. "Then why’d you even ask the price?"
"Just wanted to know." Logan shrugged. "Anyway, I’m off to farm now. Gonna earn that hundred fifty thousand and get the ascension crystal too."
He called out to the rest of his group, still messing around somewhere near the water, and then decided to try the new skill out first.
’Elderwood Phoenix Avatar.’
He fed two thousand MP into it, a full thousand past the base cost, and light gathered in the air above the pond before it started taking shape.
Feathers built themselves out of pure fire first, deep orange bleeding into gold at the tips, wings unfolding wide enough to throw heat across the whole clearing. A body followed, sculpted and lean, wreathed in flame that never seemed to actually burn anything it touched. When it finally opened its eyes, they matched Logan’s own, exactly.
```
[ Elderwood Phoenix Avatar summoned ]
+10% stats (2000 MP spent, 1000 MP over base cost)
```
’And as I climb higher tiers and my level goes up, my MP pool grows with it. I’ll be able to push this a lot further than ten percent eventually.’
Billy was the first one to notice, wading out of the shallows with water still dripping off his legs.
"Whoa. What is that?"
Tide surfaced a moment later, eyes fixed on the burning shape hovering over the water. Zephyr dropped down out of the trees to get a closer look. Even Maw stopped chewing on whatever he’d found in the mud, jaw hanging open.
Stitchgrin’s seams all popped open at once, every single one of them fixed on the phoenix. "Hehehe, pretty!"
"New skill." Logan grinned, watching the flames ripple across its wings. "Picked it up off that random book. Figured I’d try it out before we got moving again."
He let the Phoenix fade back into nothing and looked over the group.
"Give me a few minutes. Zephyr, you’re with me."
"I want to see this place from higher up. Never actually gotten a good look at the whole map from above." He glanced at the rest of them. "Wait here. Won’t be long."
Zephyr caught him under both arms, and the ground fell away fast, the pond and the trees around it shrinking to nothing within seconds. She kept climbing long after Logan expected her to level off, wind screaming colder the higher they went, until the whole world beneath them had flattened out into something he could actually see the shape of.
And that shape was wrong.
The ground didn’t curve away toward a horizon the way it should have. It just kept going, flat and unbroken, forests and rivers and mountain ranges laid out like something painted onto a massive table instead of wrapped around a planet. Logan had never actually looked hard enough to notice before. Now that he had, he couldn’t unsee it.
At the very edge of what he could make out, in all four directions at once, something broke the pattern. Four patches of solid black, each one sitting right at the furthest reach of the world itself, swallowing whatever ground should have been there instead.
"You seeing that?" Logan pointed north, then swept his hand slowly toward the other three directions in turn.
Zephyr’s grip tightened slightly. "I see it. Never noticed it before either."
’Four black patches, one at every edge of a world that isn’t supposed to have edges.’ Logan felt something settle low in his chest, curiosity and caution both at once.
"We’re checking those out." He nodded toward the nearest one, sitting dark and still against the northern horizon. "Starting with that one."
Zephyr didn’t ask why. She just adjusted their heading and started descending back toward the others, Logan’s eyes still fixed on that patch of black sitting where the edge of the world had no business being at all.
’What are those spots? There has to be something dangerous, but also rewarding.’
