Chapter 176: Chapter 176: Joining
Bena turned to face Lin Hao, a wry smile playing on his lips.
"Let you go? Weren’t you just claiming to be from the Academy? You even threatened us, saying the Academy would retaliate."
Lin Hao trembled at his words. ’He knows my earlier behavior already made them suspicious and angry.’
"I... I was just talking. I... I’m not actually from the Academy." Lin Hao’s voice grew quieter and quieter, his guilt obvious.
Bena sneered. Of course, he knew Lin Hao was lying, but he didn’t plan on calling him out.
"Relax. We won’t kill you—for now."
"However, your fate from now on will depend on your performance."
"If you can prove to be of greater value, we might consider letting you live."
Hearing this, Lin Hao’s heart leaped with joy. ’I’m safe for the time being.’
"I’ll be on my best behavior! I definitely won’t disappoint you, Lord Bena!"
Bena nodded, then gave an order to Neil and Number Two.
"Watch him. We’re heading back."
"Understood." Neil and Number Two acknowledged the order and escorted Lin Hao, following behind Bena.
Bena led the way back to the factory, bringing the scavenged equipment, data, and Lin Hao with them.
When Zhou Mei and the other team members saw Bena’s group return, they immediately went to greet them.
"Bena, how did it go?" Zhou Mei asked.
Bena showed everyone the equipment and data they had recovered, a smile gracing his face.
"It was a good haul this time. We found some useful equipment and data, plus two C20 chip controllers."
Seeing the spoils, everyone’s faces lit up with delight.
"Looks like this operation wasn’t a waste of time after all," Zhou Mei said with a smile.
"The haul was good. Besides the C20 chip controller that was on the desk, we also found another C20 controller in his safe, plus three D14 chip controllers."
Bena nodded and handed the equipment and data brought back from the shelter to Zhou Mei and the other team members to be organized.
"This equipment and data are very useful to us. Sort and store them for now. We’ll hand them over to the Administrator when we get back."
"Yes, Captain Bena." The team members accepted their orders and began carefully sorting and storing the items.
Bena then turned to Lin Hao, a knowing glint in his eye.
"Lin Hao, you’ll be coming with us for now."
"If you can prove to be of greater value, we might consider letting you live."
Lin Hao trembled at his words. He knew his fate was now completely in their hands.
But he also saw a glimmer of hope. As long as he could provide enough value, he might be able to save his own skin.
"I’ll be on my best behavior! I definitely won’t disappoint you, Lord Bena!"
Bena sneered. He didn’t believe a word Lin Hao said, but he didn’t call him out on it.
"Let’s go. Time to head back."
Bena left the factory with Lin Hao and the team, starting the journey back.
On the way back, Bena had Neil and Number Two keep a close watch on Lin Hao to prevent any escape attempts.
Lin Hao was very cooperative, making no move to resist.
He knew his life was in their hands, and any resistance would be futile.
After traveling for some time, Bena and his group finally returned to their own shelter.
They handed the scavenged equipment and data to Ye Yun. Seeing the haul, a satisfied smile appeared on Ye Yun’s face.
"Very good. This operation was a success."
"With this equipment and data, our research into mutated creatures will advance even further."
Bena nodded, then brought Lin Hao before Ye Yun.
"Ye Yun, this is the guy who was controlling the mutated creatures. He claimed to be from the Academy, but I suspect he’s lying."
Ye Yun glanced at Lin Hao, then carefully inspected his ID card and quickly found the problem.
The system wasn’t showing any attributes.
"His ID card is a fake. He’s not from the Academy."
Lin Hao trembled when he heard this, knowing his lie had been exposed.
But he still braced himself and said, "I... I really am from the Academy! You can’t treat me like this."
Ye Yun sneered.
"Since you’re not from the Academy, there’s no point in keeping you around."
Lin Hao’s heart seized up at Ye Yun’s words, and he hurriedly said:
"Wait! I may not be from the Academy, but I really do research mutated creatures! I know a lot of secrets about them! I can help you!"
Ye Yun glanced at Lin Hao, a flicker of amusement in his eyes.
"And what makes you think we care about your research?"
Lin Hao quickly explained:
"I found a lot of research data on mutated creatures in that abandoned shelter. Although I’ve already gone through most of it, I’m sure it still has value to you.
Besides, I also know some of the mutated creatures’ weaknesses and habits. That information would definitely help you survive in the wasteland."
Ye Yun considered this. Lin Hao’s words had indeed tempted him.
Although they had already mastered some techniques for controlling mutated creatures, their understanding of them was still far from complete.
If Lin Hao could really provide valuable information, keeping him alive wasn’t out of the question.
’Besides, with the System on my side, I’m not worried about him trying anything funny.’
"Alright. I’ll give you a chance."
Ye Yun looked at Lin Hao. "If you can provide valuable information, I can guarantee your safety.
But if you dare to pull any tricks, you should know what I’m capable of."
Joy filled Lin Hao’s heart upon hearing this, and he hurriedly said, "I’ll be on my best behavior! I definitely won’t disappoint you, Lord Ye Yun!"

Radiation Value: 22%
Satiety: 69/100

Loyalty: 55
Seeing the Loyalty score of 55, Ye Yun nodded. ’It’s not up to the standard of 60, but it’s acceptable for now.’
Although Ye Yun had let Lin Hao live for now, he didn’t trust him completely. In the wasteland, the human heart was hard to fathom; he had to remain vigilant at all times.
Over the next few days, Lin Hao was extremely cooperative. He told Ye Yun’s group everything he knew about the mutated creatures and even took the initiative to participate in the research.
Ye Yun, Bena, and the others were fairly satisfied with Lin Hao’s performance. They discovered that he possessed genuine expertise and had some insightful views on the study of mutated creatures.
After all, he had been working with chip controllers for some time now, so he was naturally far more skilled than they were, who were just starting to figure things out.
Lin Hao’s addition further enhanced the shelter’s scientific research capabilities.
He not only provided a large amount of research data on mutated creatures but also actively participated in related experiments, displaying impressive scientific aptitude.
After observing Lin Hao for a few days, Ye Yun, Bena, and the others acknowledged his abilities.
Although Lin Hao’s loyalty hadn’t yet reached a level where he could be fully trusted, his contributions to their research were plain for all to see.
