Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Lin Hao
Lin Hao’s eyes darted around for a moment, but in the end, the threat of death was too much for him.
"Actually, I found all of this in an abandoned shelter."
"It was a shelter for researching mutated creatures. Although it was mostly destroyed, there was still a lot of useful stuff inside."
Lin Hao swallowed and continued, "I was originally just a scavenger. I discovered that place by accident and... and started researching on my own."
Lin Hao’s voice grew quieter and quieter, as he clearly didn’t want anyone to know his secret.
"Where is this shelter?" Bena pressed.
Lin Hao hesitated for a moment, but under the threat of Zhou Mei’s dagger, he revealed the shelter’s location.
"It’s in a patch of ruins to the east. There’s a half-collapsed building there. The shelter is underneath it."
"But there’s nothing useful left inside. I’ve been going there to excavate for years, and I’ve pretty much moved anything usable back here."
Bena nodded. Lin Hao’s words had piqued his interest.
If this shelter really existed, and it contained research data and equipment on mutated creatures, it would undoubtedly be a huge treasure for them.
Even if it really had been cleaned out, there might still be something to gain.
After all, he possessed an ability that others did not.
He could detect underground cavities, imperceptible from the surface, just by carefully concentrating his senses. Perhaps beneath the ruins of a shelter that seemed completely excavated, something special still existed.
After a moment of thought, he gave an order to Zhou Mei, who was beside him.
"You guys handle things here. I’m taking this guy to that so-called abandoned shelter to see what’s what."
Zhou Mei nodded, then casually suggested:
"How about this, have Neil and No. 2 go with you."
"An extra person always makes things safer."
Bena thought for a moment and agreed with Zhou Mei’s suggestion.
Although he was confident in his ability to handle most situations, in the wasteland, an extra person truly meant an extra layer of security.
"Alright. Neil, No. 2, you’re with me."
Bena waved Neil and No. 2 over.
"The rest of you stay here and keep searching. See if there’s anything else of value."
"Understood." The group acknowledged the order and split up to act.
Bena led Lin Hao, Neil, and No. 2 out of the factory, heading in the direction of the abandoned shelter Lin Hao had described.
Under the threat of Bena’s dagger, Lin Hao didn’t dare try any tricks. He obediently led them to the front of the half-collapsed building.
"This is it." Lin Hao pointed to a hidden entrance among the ruins. "The shelter is down through here."
Bena carefully observed the surroundings. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, he signaled for No. 2 to go in first and scout.
No. 2 was a bioroid, after all. Even if it got injured by a trap down there, it could be repaired.
No. 2 cautiously entered the shelter. After confirming there was no danger, it sent Bena an all-clear signal.
Bena entered the shelter with Lin Hao. They shone their flashlights, exploring deeper along the winding corridors.
The shelter’s interior was extremely dilapidated. Cracks on the walls and collapsed rubble were everywhere, but faint traces of experimental equipment and documents could still be seen.
Bena observed his surroundings as he walked. He could sense that this place had indeed once been a facility for researching mutated creatures.
Most of the contents had indeed been cleared out, just as Lin Hao had said. All that remained were some larger pieces of equipment and some worthless junk.
Bena had Neil and No. 2 watch Lin Hao while he himself began to pace carefully through the shelter.
He walked back and forth in a full circle, and just when Bena thought he would find nothing, he stopped short.
He strode quickly to a very solid-looking wall.
Bena pressed his whole body against the wall and focused his senses. The next moment, a hollow space appeared within his perception.
A glint flashed in Bena’s eyes. He was certain there was something behind this wall.
"Neil, No. 2, watch him."
Bena gave the order, then fully activated the power armor he was wearing and began to carefully break through the wall.
Lin Hao stood to the side, a flicker of doubt in his eyes as he watched Bena.
He had been to this shelter countless times. He had already moved anything that could be moved long ago.
He never expected Bena to actually find a hidden space in this seemingly empty shelter.
’Are they really connected to the Academy? How else could they have this kind of ability?’
Bena worked quickly. Before long, the hole in the wall was large enough for one person to pass through.
He signaled for Neil and No. 2 to keep a good watch on Lin Hao, then grabbed a flashlight and cautiously squeezed through.
Behind the opening was a small space, piled high with all sorts of experimental equipment and documents.
Bena gave it a cursory glance and found that the equipment and documents were all remarkably well-preserved. Clearly, the hidden space was very well-sealed.
He rejoiced internally. ’Looks like I’ve really hit the jackpot this time.’
Bena immediately began to inspect the equipment and documents, hoping to find valuable information.
He first flipped through some of the documents and found that most of them were research records on mutated creatures.
Although the content of these records was rather basic, their value was still immense to Bena and his team.
These documents could help them better understand mutated creatures, providing a reference for future combat and research.
In addition to these research records, Bena also found some experimental equipment.
Although most of this equipment was quite old, some of the key components were still usable.
Of course, the most important discovery in this small space was two C20 chip controllers.
Bena gathered the useful equipment and documents, preparing to take them back to the Administrator.
He believed the Administrator would be very pleased to see what they had found in this shelter.
While Bena was sorting through the items, Neil and No. 2 were closely monitoring Lin Hao.
Although Lin Hao appeared very cooperative on the surface, Neil and No. 2 both knew this guy definitely wouldn’t give up so easily.
He would surely run without hesitation the moment he found an opportunity.
Therefore, they had to remain vigilant at all times and not give Lin Hao any chance to slip away.
After quickly packing everything up, a smile finally appeared on Bena’s face. This trip hadn’t been for nothing.
’Forget everything else, those two C20 chip controllers alone made the whole trip worthwhile.’
With such a good haul, Bena’s attitude toward Lin Hao finally softened a bit.
Seeing the smile on Bena’s face, an idea sparked in Lin Hao’s mind:
"Lord Bena, you’ve found what you were looking for... so can you just treat me like a fart and let me go?"
