Chapter 207: Chapter 192: Abandoned Shelter

It was a structure half-buried underground, its entrance blocked by rubble and vines.

From the visible portion, the structure was quite large. It was very likely the abandoned shelter they were looking for.

Bena observed it carefully for a moment, then turned to Zhou Mei.

"Zhou Mei, take a few people and clear that rubble and those vines. See what’s under there.

Everyone else, stay alert. Watch out for any potential dangers."

Bena ordered.

Zhou Mei nodded, led a few team members forward, and began to clear away the rubble and vines.

They moved with extreme caution, trying not to make too much noise and attract unnecessary attention.

After some time, their efforts gradually cleared the entrance to the ruins.

It was a massive metal door, its surface caked in a thick layer of dust and vines. There were no markings on it, only a few faint scratches, suggesting it had been here for many years.

Bena walked up and gave the door a hard push, only to find it was extremely heavy and wouldn’t budge at all.

He signaled for the others to wait, then carefully pushed the metal door fully open and was the first to enter the shelter.

After all, he was wearing power armor. He could withstand most dangers he might encounter.

Behind the metal door was a long corridor. The walls were covered in thick dust and cobwebs. A few closed doors lined both sides of the hallway, likely leading to rooms or storage closets.

Perhaps because of its proximity to Heishui Lake, the inside of the facility was extremely damp. Puddles of varying depths had even formed in the low-lying areas.

Bena switched on his flashlight, its beam sweeping across the corridor and illuminating the path ahead.

He scanned his surroundings warily, ready to react to any potential threats.

After a brief search, he confirmed there were no signs of immediate danger.

"Everyone, be careful. Follow me in," Bena said to the team members outside via his communicator.

Zhou Mei and the other team members filed into the shelter, following closely behind Bena as they explored down the corridor.

As everyone’s flashlights came on, the shelter’s interior grew brighter.

At the end of the corridor was an even larger metal door, which appeared to lead to the shelter’s core area.

Bena walked up to it and pushed the door open with force.

Behind the door was a spacious hall filled with all sorts of abandoned equipment and instruments.

Tattered charts and maps hung on the walls, looking as if they had been there for ages.

First, they checked the rooms along both sides of the corridor, finding them mostly dilapidated. The items inside were corroded beyond recognition.

However, Bena was not discouraged by this.

He knew that in abandoned shelters like this, the most valuable things were often hidden in inconspicuous places.

"Everyone, spread out and search this place thoroughly," Bena ordered.

The team members immediately fanned out and began to carefully search the hall.

They checked every corner, looking for any useful supplies or equipment.

Bena, meanwhile, walked toward a control console in the center of the hall, which was covered in dust and cobwebs. He carefully wiped away the dust, revealing some buttons and a display screen.

Had it been just ordinary dampness, the equipment, made from aerospace-grade alloy, would not have been significantly affected.

However, the nearby Heishui Lake was no ordinary lake; it was a special body of water containing high levels of radiation and contaminants.

Even if the evaporated moisture contained only trace amounts of radiation and pollutants, hundreds of years of accumulation had corroded the equipment into a complete mess.

Zhou Mei used her dagger to carefully pry open a notebook. Although it looked intact, the long-corroded book instantly disintegrated into a pile of black powder.

Zhou Mei’s mouth twitched.

"I’m guessing there’s probably nothing good left in this shelter."

Bena nodded, completely agreeing with Zhou Mei’s assessment.

If it had remained perfectly sealed, there might have been some good things left inside the shelter.

However, this particular shelter had clearly been heavily targeted before the Cataclysm, resulting in numerous breaches that compromised its supposedly sealed state.
