Chapter 255: Chapter 216: The Hunting Scene
Lin Hao stood at the site of the hunt, gazing at the defeated mutated creatures with a heart full of accomplishment. He knew this was just the beginning, that more challenges and opportunities awaited him and the research team to explore and seize. And as always, they would use the power of science to light the way for the shelter’s future.
Zhou Mei and Leo stood in the shelter’s command center. A map was spread out before them, a winding route marked on it that led to the location of an unknown treasure. Their gazes were resolute, prepared to face the challenges ahead.
"Leo, look here." Zhou Mei pointed to a symbol on the map. "This is our destination—an ancient ruin, rumored to hold abundant resources."
Leo leaned in for a closer look and nodded. "It certainly looks mysterious, but we have to be careful. The wasteland is full of danger."
"I’ve already selected our most elite members. We’ll be prepared to handle anything," Zhou Mei said, full of confidence.
"Let’s get going then. Time waits for no one," Leo said, patting Zhou Mei on the shoulder.
The team they led consisted of ten experienced explorers, each with their own specialties and skills. Before setting out, Zhou Mei and Leo gathered the team for a final briefing.
"We’re about to embark on a journey filled with the unknown and with danger," Zhou Mei’s voice was resolute. "Our goal is to find the treasure that can bring new hope to the shelter. Remember, we aren’t just doing this for ourselves, but for our home and our future. Stay alert, support each other. I believe we can overcome any obstacle."
The team members nodded in understanding, their eyes showing their resolve and determination. Then, carrying the necessary equipment and tools, they set out on the path to the treasure.
In this wasteland, scoured by the apocalypse, the harshness of the environment was beyond imagination. Howling winds kicked up sand and dust that blotted out the sky, as if even the sunlight had lost its warmth and light.
The earth was no longer fertile, but riddled with deep fissures—scars on the body of Mother Earth, silently telling of the catastrophe that had come before.
The team advanced with difficulty across the desolate land, their footsteps echoing with unnerving clarity through the empty ruins.
However, the sound of the wind that occasionally broke the silence seemed to mock their insignificance and powerlessness.
In the distance, the roars of mutated creatures shattered the dead silence. They were the new masters of the wasteland, nature’s ironic punishment for human civilization. The creatures’ howls drifted on the wind, setting every team member’s nerves on edge. They knew these mutated beasts were not only massive but also savage; any encounter would be a fight to the death.
The scouts were the team’s eyes and ears, always taking the lead to survey the surroundings with their keen senses and vast experience. If they detected any sign of mutated creatures, they would immediately warn the team so a strategy could be quickly devised. Sometimes they could use the terrain to their advantage, cleverly avoiding a direct confrontation. Other times, they had to rely on the team’s Warriors and Hunters to guarantee their safety with strength and skill.
Water and food were exceedingly precious resources in the wasteland. The team’s foragers were responsible for finding potential sources of both, carefully identifying any possible water supply and checking every patch of earth for edible plants. Throughout this process, they not only had to contend with the harsh environment but also remain vigilant against mutated creatures lurking in the shadows.
As the sun gradually sank, the temperature in the wasteland began to plummet. Night was even more dangerous, as many mutated creatures were more active in the dark. The team had to find a relatively safe place to make camp. They would need to light a bonfire to ward off the cold, but they also had to be careful to control the flames so as not to attract unwanted attention.
At the campsite, the team members gathered around the bonfire, sharing their food and water and exchanging stories and insights from the day. They knew that only through mutual support and cooperation could they survive in this perilous wasteland. Amidst the howling of the night wind, they could still occasionally hear the roars of distant mutated creatures. But the sounds no longer inspired fear, because they knew that as long as they were united, nothing could stop their advance.
"Careful, there might be mutated creatures ahead," Leo warned the team. "Everyone stay alert and be ready for an attack."
The team’s scouts quickly moved ahead to investigate the area. They discovered traces of mutated creatures but managed to avoid a direct conflict through clever maneuvering and strategy.
After trekking for several days, they finally neared the treasure location marked on the map. But just then, a group of hostile raiders appeared in the distance. They clearly had their sights set on the treasure as well.
"Looks like we aren’t the only ones who know about this treasure," Zhou Mei said, gripping her weapon tightly, her eyes vigilant.
"Prepare for battle!" Leo ordered.
The team quickly dispersed, using the ruined terrain for cover. As the raiders closed in, a fierce firefight erupted between the two sides. Bullets whizzed through the air, and the glow of energy weapons flashed among the ruins.
"Hold formation! Don’t let them scatter us!" Zhou Mei shouted.
