Chapter 256: Chapter 216: Hunting Scene 2
Led by Zhou Mei and Leo, the team members displayed superb combat skills and teamwork. Using precise shooting and agile movements, they gradually suppressed the raiders’ assault.
After a fierce battle, the raiders were finally overwhelmed and began to retreat. Zhou Mei and Leo didn’t give chase; they knew the real target was the treasure.
"Hurry, we don’t have much time." Zhou Mei pointed toward the depths of the ruins. "The treasure should be in the basement up ahead."
The team quickly entered the ruins and found the entrance to the basement. They cautiously descended the dilapidated staircase, finally arriving before a massive basement door.
"Looks like this is where the treasure is hidden." Leo inspected the lock on the door. "We’ll need tools to open it."
The team’s tech expert stepped forward and took out a set of lock-picking tools. After some effort, the lock finally clicked open. As the heavy door was slowly pushed ajar, a wave of stale air washed over them.
"It could be dangerous inside. Everyone, be careful," Zhou Mei warned.
They activated their light sources, illuminating the dim basement. It was filled with all sorts of ancient chests and containers—clearly the treasure they had been searching for.
"Quick, let’s get the treasure back," Leo ordered as the team began to move the trove.
Just as they were busy working, the basement suddenly began to shake. It seemed the remnants of the raider party were trying to destroy the treasure.
"There’s no time, we have to hurry!" Zhou Mei urged anxiously.
The team members picked up their pace, quickly hauling the treasure to the surface. Just after the last piece was carried out, the entire basement suddenly collapsed, sending dust billowing everywhere.
"That was close!" Leo brushed the dust off his clothes. "We did it. Now let’s get this treasure back to the shelter."
With the treasure in tow, they began their journey back. Although they encountered more difficulties along the way, they ultimately overcame every obstacle with their collective strength and wits, returning safely to the shelter with their prize.
When Zhou Mei and Leo led the team back to the shelter, they were greeted with a hero’s welcome. Their success not only brought valuable resources to the shelter but also gave its residents hope and confidence.
Bena stood at the head of the conference room, a detailed map of the shelter’s surroundings spread out on the table before him. His sharp gaze swept over the team members gathered around the table, each one an elite, hand-picked for their diverse skills and experience.
"We are facing a group of unidentified invaders," Bena said, his voice low and powerful. "They may be after our resources, or they may simply want to cause destruction. Our mission is to ensure the shelter’s safety. There is no room for failure."
"We’ve analyzed their likely routes and tactics." Bena pointed to several markers on the map. "We will set up defenses here, here, and here. We’ll use our familiarity with the terrain to set traps and ambush points."
"Captain, do we have any solid intel on their strength?" a team member asked.
"Our intel is limited, but one thing is certain: they are not ordinary raiders," Bena replied. "They’re organized and well-equipped. We must be fully prepared."
"So what’s our plan, Bena?" another team member asked.
"We’ll split into three squads," Bena began, assigning tasks. "First Squad will be responsible for the eastern defenses, Second Squad will take the west, and I will lead Third Squad as the rapid-response unit, ready to provide support at a moment’s notice."
"Our fortifications need to be reinforced," Bena continued. "Use the shelter’s existing resources to set up roadblocks, caltrops, and traps. We also need to post sentries to ensure we can spot enemy movements in time."
"Captain, what if their numbers are huge?" someone asked.
"Our advantages are our knowledge of the terrain and our fortifications," Bena answered. "Even if they outnumber us, we’ll make them learn that this is our home turf. We won’t let them succeed easily."
After assigning the tasks, Bena once again stressed the importance of the mission and encouraged everyone to give it their all.
"I know this won’t be an easy road, but our unity and wits will be our greatest weapons. Let’s face this challenge together—for the future of the shelter, and for the future of us all."
The conference room erupted in fervent applause, everyone inspired by Bena’s words.
Afterward, the teams began their intense preparations. They dug deep pits in the wasteland, laid out sharp spikes, and established sniper nests in high positions. The fortifications were also being rapidly strengthened; the perimeter walls were reinforced, and multiple obstacles were placed at the entrance.
Bena’s rapid-response squad was also training intensely. They practiced assembling quickly and learned how to rapidly locate and strike targets in the dark. A single belief was instilled in every member: protect our home, never retreat.
A few days later, on a moonless night, the invaders’ forces quietly approached the shelter. They had split into several groups, attempting to infiltrate without a sound. However, the moment they stepped into the pre-set trap zone, they triggered the alarms.
"Go!" Bena issued the command from the control room, his voice reaching the ears of every Guardian over the radio.
Instantly, the shelter’s defense systems fully activated. Traps were sprung, and the spikes in the deep pits pierced the invaders’ bodies. Snipers from the high ground opened fire, their bullets streaking across the night sky on deadly trajectories.
The rapid-response squad also deployed, charging toward the invaders with weapons in hand. The invaders’ force was caught completely off guard, their formation instantly dissolving into chaos.
Some invaders tried to fight back but were quickly suppressed by precise gunfire and swift assaults. Bena’s squad moved like ghosts in the night, silently reaping the lives of their enemies.
After a night of fierce fighting, the invading force was utterly crushed. Their bodies lay scattered across the wasteland, becoming nutrients for the soil.
Though exhausted, the shelter’s residents had the light of victory shining in their eyes. Bena stepped out of the control room, standing on high ground and looking out over the scene.
He knew this victory wasn’t just due to their thorough preparations, but also their love for their home and their respect for life.
"We did it," Bena said to the team members who walked over. "But we can’t let our guard down. The wasteland has more challenges waiting for us."
"We’re ready," the team members replied in unison, their gazes firm. "Whatever difficulties the future holds, we’ll face them together."
The residents of the shelter gathered to celebrate their victory. They sang, danced, and shared their joy with one another. Although they knew this was just one battle among countless to come, they were more convinced than ever that as long as they stood united, there was no difficulty they couldn’t overcome.
Watching the celebrating crowd, Bena’s heart filled with warmth. He knew they hadn’t just won a battle; they had won hope for the future.
In this perilous Wasteland World, their shelter was like a beacon, illuminating the path forward and giving people courage and strength. And Bena and his team would continue to guard that light, forever.
With the mission’s successful completion, the shelter’s residents once again felt the power of unity and cooperation. Through their combined efforts, their home had become safer and more stable.
Ye Yun stood on the high ground of the shelter, looking out at the courageous residents, his heart filled with pride and gratitude. He knew that it was these brave, wise, and hardworking people who had, together, created the shelter’s glory.
"We are a united collective, an unyielding team," Ye Yun said at a general assembly of all residents. "As long as we work together with one heart, there is no difficulty we cannot overcome. Our shelter will forever illuminate the wasteland and become a land of hope for all."
The residents responded with thunderous applause and cheers, their eyes gleaming with determination and hope.
In this perilous Wasteland World, their shelter had become a true beacon of light—a home full of dreams and opportunities.
And Ye Yun and his teams would continue to lead everyone to face new challenges and create an even more brilliant future.
